Thank you so much for the information, Bery! I've been to Turkey four times as a tourist and would love to live there, maybe for a while, maybe for the whole life. Since last year I've been studying Turkish to really get involved in the culture. Salaries are not high as in some other countries but the quality of life is very good and the experience of living there is priceless. I'm a Brazilian who has already lived in Germany, have Spanish citizenship but the country that really captured my heart is Turkey. Greetings from Brazil!

Have you visited Greece? Its very close in culture (if not identical) and the economy is better with EU citizenship. If you buy properties worth 200.000€, you get instant citizenship.

Turkey is much better. Turkish is easier to learn (it uses similar alphabet as English), cost of living is lower, people are friendlier, there's more variety, and more growth in future (unlike Greece).

During August of 2019 I travelled to Istanbul and Bodrum with my wife for 14 days total. I liked Istanbul, but absolutely fell in love with Bodrum. The people, culture, history and food left such an impression that I returned to Bodrum during October of 2020, by myself, for 21 days to study the town so that I can make a move and live there. Living in California is great but Bodrum is so much nicer. I am now in the process of getting everything ready to actually make the move. Can't wait! Thank you for this video and the information provided. çok teşekkür ederim

Wow! But NY and CA are very expensive to live even in the USA living standards 😀 I love CA btw! If you are convinced that Turkey would be a great place to start over again, try it! Just make sure not to have any debts in your home country’s currency because then exchanging TL into USD to pay them will be a big pain 😬 But I don’t know, if you already own a house/flat there, rent it and that money you can have it monthly in USD to use here! Wowww that would be amazing! In my case, I’m also renting my home in Mexico and after paying my loan to the Mexican bank I still get good money to use here.

You would be rich here. I am amazed at how well you can live here for. I was born in California, most of my adult life in AZ which is cheaper, and I was stunned at the prices here. Not to mention the people and how nice some of them can be. And when I work, I make more than avg household income in the U.S. and CA or NY I would never live in due to the cost.

You would enjoy every luxurious life in Turkey. I would suggest that you visit Turkey to get a "feel for it"... Travel a bit. Go south and see Fethiye, Antalya, Analya, Bodrum... you could live in a beautiful apartment overlooking the Aegean sea or the Mediterranean, and these places are even cheaper than Istanbul.

Yeah, this info is pretty accurate, and the prices are all the same as I have faced here in Istanbul (Sisli) too. With the low currency it's a good time to buy/invest here (with foreign currency), but not so good for selling. If the currency goes back to where it was even a year or two ago (not to mention five years ago) then you'd make some good profit (or some significant gains with your salary in Turkish lira). The thing is, we don't know what will happen! But at the moment, foreign retirees here are at a big win.

I'm a nurse in Canada and I was told I can't find work as a nurse there so I was thinking of taking an English teaching course. Is the expat higher salary standard based on something legal or a norm? How do I ensure when I go for an interview that I'm being offered a good wage not being treated in an underhanded manner. Thank you so much for taking the time to help us all out. Also, with my background (I do have 2 undergraduate degrees) do you think I could find a well paying job in import/export despite not having the experience? Warmest Regards.

Hi! You can get the residence permit faster in smaller cities BUT you must live there and have a flat rental contract. You cannot live for example in Istanbul and apply for the ikamet (residence permit) in Izmir. Not sure if airbnb is suitable to qualify as before since also they ask some papers from the owners such as TAPU and other things, those things changed some years ago.

Took me months. Started in August and just got my card last month. I was going to do everything myself, but I went through a third party just to make my fiancee happy and less worried, which wasn't smart. My plan was to apply at the end of Sept since I moved here in July since you had 90 days on your visa and once you file, you are not here illegally. I just didn't know it would take so long.

Yes you can! But at the end of the day the decision and time after the first one is up to the migration department. The first one for tourist purposes is given for up to 1 year.

Thank you so much for the information! You mentioned that we will have to fill out a declaration form ( for obtaining residency) to show that we have enough income to live in Turkey. Will they ask us to show bank records? If so, can you give an idea of how much money will we be required to have in our account? For myself, I intend to go there with 3 young children, ages 12 and under.. Thank you for any info you are able to offer me.
