I’ve worked as a consultant systems architect as my secondary career for nearly three decades but have never dipped my toe into games programming before. I decided a few months ago to have a go at writing a game, just for the shear enjoyment. I quickly became overwhelmed by the magnitude of the field and the seemingly endless number of technologies and approaches. Finding your channel and tutorials has been a breath of fresh air because your presentation style and very grounded approach is making things not only much easier but significantly more fun; your enthusiasm for your craft is infectious! Thank you 😊👍

Hi! Welcome to my channel! Comments like yours are really what keeps me going. Thank you so much for your kind words! I will do my best to continue putting up tutorials. It is indeed overwhelming to see all the new technologies. I hope my perspective would make your journey a little bit easier 😃

Just a heads up - setting the tilemap to transparent isnt ideal as youre now incuring transparency overdraw for everything under that tilemap, even though you cant see it. Better to uncheck the box on Tilemap Renderer component. The tilemap component will stay active.

There is a tool called object brush in tilemap extras. I mentioned it in this video - kzread.info/dash/bejne/kat4tsGGedmZo7A.html It works the same in 2D. If you want to make collectibles you'd need to create a prefab and paint with it in the tilemap like I mentioned in that video

You can only create custom tile types. Every instance of that custom tile will have exactly the same data and values unfortunately. So if I made a tile that was a water barrel and I wanted to have a float value for how full it was, every barrel on the map would have the same value. :/

  • @TamaraMakesGames

This is probably not a tilemap question because the whole point of using tilemaps for paint level is to do it in the Unity editor. If you were to create a layered scene in Unity you would just have to add colliders to the levels where you want collisions.
