Things to see in the Province of Messina, Sicily, Italy
On this episode of You, Me and Sicily we take you around the Province of Messina. First stop is Giardini Naxos which the Greeks first inhabited in 734 BC. They soon made their way up to Taormina, here at every corner there is something to marvel at. We also stopped at one of our favorite places to stop for a snack and to listen to music. Next we go to Savoca and Forza d'Agro, two towns made famous by the Godfather movies but we like to go there because of the quaint cobblestone streets, art and panoramic views.
Next we head to Milazzo and the spectacular castle.
In Sant'Agata di Militello there is another castle with over 400 artifacts collected from the area.
In Tindari there is the Black Madonna. Legend has it she was brought here from Constantinople. During a storm the sailors gave the statue of the Black Madonna to the abbey for safekeeping.
The capital of the Province of Messina is the city of Messina . The bell tower of the main cathedral in Messina contains the biggest and most complex mechanical and astronomical clock in the world. We will have much more on a future episode.

A must see is the astronomical clock in Messina .. a true marvel ! The Duomo is quite beautiful as well !
Fun episode! We did our fist ever boat airbnb in Milazzo about 5 years ago before touring the islands. We stayed on a beautiful big boat in the harbor with the skipper and had a great time. Also the drive from Milazzo to Palermo at night is cool because all the castles and cathedrals are lit up and easier to spot than in the daytime.

Great presentation of an area I’ve not seen much on. I’m not sure if true but I’d heard the people there feel like they lost so much history due to the earthquake and subsequent tsunami years ago that wipe out the majority of people and last.

I don’t know about Sicily, my grandmother came from Sicily and I would love to visit again. I purch@sed a coffa bag from a seller in Corleone thru Etsy and she took the $ and never sent the item. Etsy “resolved” this, but she also did not refund either. This has always been my impression of Sicily, impoverished and criminal. When I involved Etsy, the seller told me to just shut up. Not wanting to visit now. Is crime a problem?

I am so sorry for your bad experience! For every story like this there are thousands of satisfied people. Unfortunately there are some bad apples everywhere in the world. Sicily is definitely worth visiting! I hope this one case does not turn you away!
