Messina Guide, Best things to see in Messina, Sicily, Italy

Messina is a port town with a lot of history due to its proximity to the tip of Southern Italy.
The Messina Straits is a busy shipping lane, which means many of the ports along the coast service, repair, and refit ships. It has many churches of the victor of the many religious wars, and a clock tower that performs a concert at noon on Sundays. The museum is religious and a way out, so check the film before you visit.

well not quite speechless. many of our guests still do not have a smart phone so they are way behind this gentle prod away from books and felling trees. Though I saw yesterday paper being made from elephant dung.

Will be in Messina in October as one of our ports of call. Our ship docks at 7am and only leaves at 6pm. Am wondering is it doable on our own to take a train to Taomina and spend the day there? Or is there enough to see in Messina without the need to go to Taormina? Or enough time to do both?

Great visit and commentary but you missed a few opportunities, for instance: next to the Church of Mary (the one upon the hill) there is the Sanctuary of Cristo Re (Christ the King) which is actually not a church but rather a monument to all the fallen soldiers. The view of the city from that spot is phenomenal and the sanctuary itself is very beautiful. Going north, on another hill overlooking the straight of Messina, there is a castle named Forte Gonzaga built in the 1600's by the Spanish, another nice place to visit. I suppose your time was limited but if you had more time and perhaps a local guide you would have been able to discover many more hidden gems in this unfortunate, but still appealing city with a determination to survive and rebuilt and so much history.

Film gets made in about 4 hours, six at most. It is down loaded in the ships cabin as I change. Then edited while I wait for Jean. The next day, we make another film... such is our life on a cruise ship. We always miss something, and our wonderful supporters fill in the gaps. Thank you. Iceland next

@@DorisVisits I guess it's hard work being a vlogger but thank you for visiting and highlighting Messina, my now far away hometown. I left that city for the US some 40 years ago and never looked back, but still feel a great affection and unbreakable connection with it, hopefully her future will be brighter and brighter. Best wishes for your travels.
