Things To Do Around Waikoloa Beach Resort, Big Island
For us, it's a staycation, for you, maybe it's a week having a great vacation in Waikoloa Resort on Hawaii Island! We stayed at the Waikoloa Resort Marriott for a night and made the most of 36 hours to show you the area!
A few things:
We like the Marriott, because it's ocean front with easy access to a sandy beach and the fish ponds make for great photo opps. You can get on a catamaran right from the front of the hotel. Also, unlike the Hilton, the parking lot is steps from the front door, the rooms and restaurant are close to the pool so you can get around the hotel within minutes.

The Kings Shops is right across the street from the Marriott! Not only great for shopping and restaurants, but they are planning more special events at the shopping center, so more to do while you are in the area!

Lava Lava Beach Club is an experience. It just is. So, you save your pennies and eat well on the beach and you may have to wait for a table, but you do..and watch sunset. It's worth it.
Mauna Kea Visitors Center is a great place to star gaze! Walk up the cinder cone across the street for a great view of the volcanic landscape and see sunset. Bring WARM CLOTHES no matter the time of year. The Milky Way is visible most of the time, but super intense at new moon. We got a voggy sky this past weekend..thanks Kilauea.
An no, as popular as we are, we did not get paid or receive anything to recommend the hotel, shops or restaurant. If anyone WOULD like to pay us, please contact us!

You caught him Jess!!
The Marriot has been our go to hotel on the Big Island for the past 30 years ( I even got married there!)! First time we were there it was called The Royal Waikoloan. I love it 😍 But it has become so expensive for us not Americans that for the first time we will have a different hotel this year 😢.
Oh man, I miss Hawaii, so much!!! Stayed at the Hilton and in a condo in Waikoloa Village. We were able to see the ocean from our condo in the village. We spent a lot of time at A-Bay and Lava Lava. Went to Kings and Queens Shops, and we went to stargaze on Mauna Kea. Wish I could afford to be a full - or part-time resident. I love the Big Island so much!
Nice review. Very few shops are open at the new Waikoloa Plaza in the Village. Sunrises from Mauna Kea are much better than sunsets. What you missed were the beaches, like the world class Hapuna and of course the madasallas sold along Queen K Highway.
Love the Lava Lava Beach Club, always our first stop when we come to the island. Best Mai Tais on the island!! Love watching the turtles on the beach behind the club and up the bay.

I can image that as good first stop.
I'm heading to the Big Island next week. I've never been to this island. Your videos have been very helpful thank.
Your videos are getting better and better. This one of Waikoloa was great! We stay at Kohala Suites and love to explore all areas of this beautiful island. Our last trip we visited Spencer Beach Park and the King K's museum. Entertaining and informational. Thanks!

Awesome! Thank you!
That was awesome. Thank you Julie and Eric. I was so excited to see that the Lava Lava Beach Club Restaurant has reopened. No I'm really anxious to get over there after 7ish years. And, no I don't think the restaurant was open then. God bless from Arizona.
Gypsea Gelato should make a killing at that new location. I loved when the Coconut Grove location was opened after stumbling upon the Kealakekua location a few visits before. Looking forward to gelato, Lava Lava and going to watch the sunset at MKVIS on our next visit. Mahalo
This video made my heart soar because I spent 10 days at the Marriott there. Great property and I was there at peak Pandemic with almost nobody there. I have a pic from every corner of the island except for Waipio as it was closed off. Green Flash? I got it! Southern Point? Got it. Milky Way from Mauna Kea? Got it. Missed Kilauea erupting by 2 days! Bummer! But - The good lord willing - I want to be there and or Waimea if just for the views. I dream of Waikaloa Resort! Loved it because Windward side to North like Waipio and Hilo - you must love rain. Kohala to Captain Cook must love Sun. This is paradise to me. Great Video!
We just got back from Waikoloa. We went to Lava Lava twice. It was awesome! Loved it. We stayed at the Hilton. It was wonderful. The staff was so nice and the Makai tower ocean view room is completely worth it. Our view from our lanai was incredible. The location was perfect. We would definitely stay there again. The Queens Market and King shops were 3 min away and we walked a few times as well. We had a FABULOUS vacation! Great food, great hotel, and perfect weather. I prefer Waikoloa to Kona as far as weather and atmosphere. Kona has some very good restaurants and beautiful views. Waikoloa has perfect weather, beautiful views and beaches, shopping, and great food. But, let's be real, it's Hawaii, it's pretty awesome everywhere you go. 😊🌴🍹
Thank you for sharing. Beautiful and yummy food.😊🤗
I love you guys so much Waikoloa is one of the greatest places on earth so beautiful I use to work at lava lava beach club for 7 years 🎉🎉
Really enjoyed the video makes me want to come back it is so beautiful.
Great video. Thanks Julie and Eric!
Great video. Love the drone footage Eric.
Appreciate this from locals. Big Island is the only island I have not been to. Coming here with wife and kid..we are already not sure if we'll be okay being "stuck" in resort land...we want some of that, but we also want some local culture.. fortunately we have some friends on the other side of the island, so we'll get over there at some point for sure.
fun video Julie and Eric …🤙

Thanks
Love your videos, for a retired local it’s so expensive in Waikoloa food and hotel prices excluded.
💖Thanks for sharing this experience 👍171

Glad you liked it.
The resort area is about 10mins away from the village and about 7-8 miles down the road..
Hi, how is the snorkeling and opportunity to see sea turtles, fish and/or sea life close to the shore from the Waikoloa Marriott Beach Resort? Does the Marriott also have nice dining and views of sunsets in addition to the popular Lava Lava? Thanks for suggesting taking in the sunrises! Any additional suggestions about staying at Waikoloa? Thanks for your video tour!
i'll stay a week! do you folks give tours? i'll be fine, been there in 1981, good times with family

Hi Mike! We have monthly meet ups..and try and get up to do a group meet up at the Visitors Center about 6 times a year. So, not a tour, but a meet up.
