My dad was an electronics instructor at the local college, and owned and operated the local TV & stereo sales and service business. He and his father, who started the business, installed sophisticated sound systems in the local dairy barns and learned that the girls really do prefer classical music. Visiting the barn during the afternoon/evening milking was one of my favorite things to do with my dad and grandpa when he had to make repairs or adjustments.

Aaaw. That’s really cool. Thanks for sharing that. Honestly. I love animals and that just warms my heart to hear about the cows chillin to some classical music. My childhood doctor whom I loved, always had classical music playing from his office. I loved it. Good memories there as well.

The reason why cats go so relaxed when grabbed by the scruff is for survival. If a mother cat (and this applies to big cats too) feels that her kittens are in danger, she will move them to a new safe location. So the kittens go limp when carried like that to make it easier for her, prevent them from attracting unwanted attention and increase their survival chance.

Surprised when you mentioned frogs, you didn't mention toads. Toads can be hypnotized very effectively by a decent singing voice. Learned that as a kid. The toads would hide in my garden until you watered the plants. But then you start humming a little tune, and they just...freeze and stare at you. It was so effective, I could cup them in hand before they snapped out of it. Usually they were more tough to catch.

Found out that Turtles like Heavy Metal. No seriously. I live out in the sticks near creeks, so turtles are a regular. One time I caught one an was keeping it as a pet, feeding him and whatnot. But, he would never be out of his shell when I was around, and even tried to bite me a few times! But one day, I was playing Slipknot through my speaker one day (It was People = Shit, For those curious), headbanging and jumping around (Who doesn't?), and went over to dance around my turtle for a bit (why not?). But, weirdly he was out of his shell, even weirder, he wouldn‘t go back in! I even pet his head a few times. Still out! Curiously, I paused the music and, get this, HE WENT BACK IN HIS SHELL IMMEDIATELY. So I turned it back on, and he came out and did the same thing. So, I got to thinking, "What if this works with other turtles?", and proceeded to spend my day looking for another turtle. After about 2 hours, I found one, brought him inside and turned on the music (Still heavy metal) and he came out of his shell too! Both of them! I messed around with other music, but I guess the energy wasnt the same as metal, because the turtles stayed in their shells until I turned the metal back on. Since then Ive tried this on a dozen or so turtles and I get the same results! Kinda neat right? Guess Im not the only thing that enjoys some good ol‘ Slipknot.

The last 6 cats I've owned weren't interested in cardboard boxes at all. The only exception is my current cat, but she doesn't like sitting or playing in a box - she likes to bite small chunks out of a box and spit them all over the floor, and it must be the box that holds 12 packs of Ramen noodles. No other box will suffice. My cat's insane, and my living room looks like a landfill half the time, but I don't know what our life would be like without her.

I learned decades ago that sharks have to keep moving in order to keep breathing. How one can breathe deeply while immobilized directly contradicts that. Now, I don’t know either as fact.

  • @carnelian6356

Sharks move to help filter the water around them through their gills and collect oxygen. when flipped their gills still move collecting Oxygen, just they don't move, I believe it becomes harder for them to breathe so they can't stay like that for long, and it only works on certain sharks, maybe because of how their gills work? I'm not an expert, but I love biology, and I read biology books a lot. Have a great day!!!

When I was a teenager, I did the chalk lines with chickens. They need not to be lying down, but can be standing up. I held its head with the beak touching the ground. Then drew a chalk line right in front. I did with zipzag lines. The chicken’s eyes traced the zigzag movement, then the chicken became still/frozen in place. When I released my hand, the chicken would be frozen still for about 20 seconds max-not longer than that.

A spiral image used in human hypnosis is effective for a specific reason. Hypnosis is a state of intense focus. It takes effort to concentrate on a spiral pattern. During the induction, you switch the focus from visual to aural, so the subject does not need to be looking at the pattern for a long time which would fatigue the eyes.

Actually, it’s because when they were kits HOLD by their mom, it’s a sign that they are being carried through dangerous territory and Shelby protected by their mother. If they moved, they were dead. That’s why they always have to stay STILL so they wouldn’t die, and it still carries onto the adulthood

  • @Prof.Tarfeather

@8:37 Orcas while hunting in pods use the same technique. They circle a shark, while some of the pod is above pushing down on the shark, the remaining members are striking from below until they get the shark turned upside-down, rendering it immobile. The only part of the shark eaten is the liver. Because the scales of shark skin are razor sharp and over time would wear an Orcas teeth down also causing abrasions and possible digestive injuries. Sharks cannot swim backwards and flipping them upside-down stuns them.

The venomous species currently live only in the Amazon rainforest, and the poison they exude through their skin is due to their diet. If the species is bred in captivity, or if you keep it for some week with a non poisonous diet, there is no risk in touching them without gloves. (but you have to make sure your hands are clean, as with all batrachians you touch.)

I was previously aware of the snake charming and the cuttlefish fact but still fascinating to watch. Also the fainting goats trick really only works on younger goats as they eventually find ways to work around the paralysis. They still cant move well but they can move I heard a funny story related to the cat hunting instinct that makes them fascinated with the spinner. The Original Poster had built a gaming PC for a friend, but then the friend called saying that it would restart seemingly at random. he came over to check it out but it didn't seem to do anything until the friend's cat Villain came into the room. OP noticed that the cat seemed facsinated by the PC and confirmed that it was usually in the room when the problem happened. It turns out that the restart issue had nothing to do with the computer, they had put decorative moving lights around the control buttons so the cat kept instinctively batting at the restart. As soon as they removed the lights the PC worked perfectly. So Villain was the villain.

the cow one might have been a bit overstated. We used to raise dairy and beef cattle. They will come up to the fence like shown in the video even without music. You just have to do anything a bit out of the ordinary. Like stand there and talk to them. Doesn't have to be song or music. TLDR: Cows are just super curious about anything different. EDIT: They also don't enjoy loud / startle type noises so no big surprise they respond better to calmer music.

It's shocking to me that you give permission to terrorize a reptile by turning it on its back directly after talking about not doing it to your rabbit because it scares them to death. I'm sure the reptiles aren't too happy about being on their back either. Not to mention some of them do not have diaphragm muscles to breathe when they are on their backs (bearded dragon for example).

Sadly, the thing about sharks is only somewhat true. Sharks have a pressure point on their noses that if you press it, it paralyses them. And they usually flip in response. It takes a few minutes for them to come back to their senses, and divers use this technique to avoid attacks.

I've "tickled" trout myself. It's easiest when you crawl along the edge of the stream and reach under the bank, going slowly upstream. The trout lay up under the bank facing upstream, close to the bed of the bank to conserve energy. You slowly move your hand upstream and you can feel their tail, you reach under their belly and lightly tap their belly with your fingers as you move up their body. When you get to their head area you grab them in their gills and pull them out. I've eaten 3 trout I caught that way.
