    I am actually genuinely surprised you haven't produced a children's channel yet. They make serious bank on here for minecraft and other random crap and all the kids flood to them with sponsors soon following. It is completely mad how a 7 year old can be earning more in a year than you have in the 10 years of top tenz!

    Bagged vacuum cleaners suck dirt through the bag. The bag is also a filter that catches all the dirt. As the bag fills, the suction drops because it has to suck through all the collected dirt. A cyclonic system shapes air flow and forces the dirt into a container without clogging... so long as you empty it before it hits the full line.

  • @Woffenhorst

    @Woffenhorst

    And you can get brands other than Dyson. I've a Hoover one, cost me about 50€. My gripe with the bags was the ridiculous hunt for the correct type, as every company had several ones for different models. Emptying the cyclonic chamber (best consumer device part name) is just so convenient in comparison.

  • @Panboy2k

    @Panboy2k

    Dysons have a filter, the filter is 100 times smaller than the surface area of a bag, they lose suction much faster than bags , the filters can be replaced, they are very expensive, they suggest you clean them, this is a futile process. My Mother has owned many Dysons, and made me maintain them, I hated them. .. they(Dyson Uprights) also have narrow pipes that clog easy with right angles everywhere for seemingly no reason, Most bag vacuums I've used the head feeds directly into the bag, with no right angles. so much less likely to clog with a paper clip . They are over priced garbage that do not at all have the benefits they claim.

  • @rodh1404

    It depends on where the fan is located. Most vacuum cleaners have the bag located before the fan, and suck the dirt through the bag as you say. Others have the fan in front of the bag (mostly seen on some upright vacuums) and they don't. Also, the closer the fan is to the thing being cleaned, the more efficient it can be. Which often means that when it comes to cleaning carpeted floors, upright vacuums are MUCH more effective than canister type cleaners - even those that do make use of cyclonic airflow.

  • @toddnolastname4485

    @toddnolastname4485

    Easy. Put the air flow at the top of the bag, so the dirt falls down.

  • @gnarthdarkanen7464

    @gnarthdarkanen7464

    2 жыл бұрын

    ORECK! ORECK! ORECK!!! That's a perfectly good name, and they put the air-channel up the handle to the TOP of the bag, so the dirt fell down into it... Next to ZERO loss of suction, and a favorite of contractors and janitorial services because you could use the WHOLE BAG every time... Second Best was the older Hoover Upright... AND again, you CAN rectify it if you don't mind a little DIY... ALL you need is a length of appropriate PVC and a hose-clamp... Take the bag out, and there's about a 4 inch tube on which the bag ordinarily gets "clamped" by a spring band... Leave the band, and add the hose clamp... Shove the PVC into the tube (it's a stiff rubber, but pliable enough to clamp well) and then measure to the upper portion of the bag... Cut the PVC so it fits to about 2 inches below the end of the bag, and then clamp it into the tube in the lower portion of the vacuum... Slip the bag (be careful, as bags are paper and can tear) all the way over the hose clamp, and then return that spring band to keep it in place... Return the paper bag into the cloth one that supports it along the "handle" and zip it shut... you're ready to rock 'n roll... You may still lose a little suction, and with PVC taking up considerable space, it's still just a little wasteful... BUT second only to the Oreck, it can be a VERY effective "fix" to bridge from nothing to the point you find and procure your Oreck... Don't forget to pick up belts for it, because those are the most often worn out parts that need replacement other than bags... It's not particularly complicated or difficult, either... Mostly, the bagless vacuums are a waste to me. The only exception is a shop-vac for wet/dry functions, and even they can become a pain in the ass... BUT a proper dust-collection addition (aftermarket) can make that a problem of the past for you... There's almost no real assurance for the best of shop vac's but anything that can take a Hepa filter is relatively good... ;o)

    In those chambers it is so quiet you can hear the sound of the blood moving through you. You can hear the sounds of your eyelids clicking whenever you blink. All kinds of things in your body that you think are silent are suddenly loud because there are no other sounds. Since they are coming from inside you and the sound is conducted over your body you can't even get away from it. That is what drives people nuts.

  • @brolohalflemming7042

    Yup. I've been inside one and it's a VERY strange sensation. Started with a safety talk about what to expect, then went in, laid on their test rig and things slowly went weird. The operators gradually brought down background noise that's piped in. It didn't seem to take very long to start hearing blood wooshing in my head, breathing noises, stomach gurgles and get rather claustrophobic. The sounds were basically the same as you hear with some doppler ultrasound tests. I was warned not to try standing up, partly because of the balance issues, and partly because falling over and damaging the anechoic tiles would be rather expensive.

    Most people don't know how to handle stillness... Having spent an undue amount of time in caves and mineshafts, I've dealt with considerably more time on considerably less stimulation than most... While not anechoic, exactly, it's an interesting (and eventaully even addictive) sensation to sit so very alone in the pitch-dark, and wait to notice even the very slightest movements of air around you... It's also when you realize just how BAD the tinnitus has gotten over the last year or so... I have no idea how long I'd last exactly in one of those chambers... I'd suppose it would depend on my mental state at the time... BUT occasionally partaking of even a mild to moderate sensory deprivation for a half-hour to an hour or so isn't a terrible practice. It allows you completely unadulterated self reflection and the total engagement of an inward focus. ;o)

    Why are bags in vacuums bad? Do you remember when cell phones each had different charging ports? So you had to find the right one if you wanted to charge your phone? Same thing for bags in vacuums. Every model, every size...had their own NON-interchangeable bag. There were so called "universal" bags, but they never really worked very well. So, yeah, now you can order a bunch of bags online if you need more. But, back in the day, if you want to go buy them in the store, you need to buy the new model of vacuum. Because the store isn't going to stock the bags for 5 year old models. The past was the worse!!

    Am I the only person left on earth that remembers the cloth vacuum bags that couldn't be changed? My mom had an upright steel Kirby that weighed more than I did that had a cloth bag. You had to take the whole front part of the vacuum off, then unhook the bag in 4 or 5 different places, take it outside, turn it inside out into the trash, then beat the ever-lovin' hell out of it to get as much dust out as you could. It had to be washed pretty regularly too, or the dust would cake up in the fabric, and smell like a wet fart every time the vacuum was turned on. And of course, the bag contraption couldn't be put in old school washing machines. I had to lay it on the driveway and use a hose and scrub brush on it. For years, I was convinced that my parents had a kid soley to clean the vacuum bag. However, that vacuum also came with a carpet shampooer attachment, and worked well for 50+ years. She had that damned vacuum until about 10 years ago, when we introduced her to the moder miracle called a canister vac. Tl,dr- replaceable paper vacuum bags are the best thing since splinter-free toilet paper!

    Starlight: cornstarch, baking soda and water, mix it to paste. The cornstarch will char creating a protective coating of loose carbon that insulates heat well and requires +3000C to combust. Baking soda is there as a flame retardant, and probably as an alkaline. It is ablative protection, it does burn away but slowly.

    Re: the 'wonder material' from the 1990 episode of Tomorrow's World- I remember that. My dad's a physicist and he said at the time that they already had substances capable of the sort of effects the guy demonstrated, and he couldn't understand why there was so much hype around it. He said that it was most likely a synthetic polymer with high thermal conductivity. Counterintuitively, a coating of material with a very high thermal conductivity can protect layers underneath, because the heat is very quickly transferred throughout the conductive layer, and the object underneath is heated slowly, but evenly, rather than being burned. Similar substances are already in military and civilian use. The man on Tomorrow's World probably hadn't invented a 'wonder material'- he was most likely showcasing a material already known to science in a way that used hype and misdirection to make it appear more miraculous than it actually was. He was basically doing a magic trick, and his reluctance to sell was probably due to the fact he knew he couldn't patent it. Full credit to him for having some fun with physics, and fooling a bunch of people who should have known better, though.

    You can make "Starlite" out of baking powder, baking soda, and PVA glue. There are several YT videos that will show you how. The reason the inventor never revealed his recipe is that the coating was heat and fire resistant, but it was delicate and would not hold up to much handling or the passage of time. It is useful for DIY projects such as making a small furnace for melting metal.

  • @BainesMkII

    Thermashield have denied most, if not all, of those claims. Thermashield claims that Starlite is much more complex than the formula NightHawkInLight popularized, that at least some of the ingredients are regulated, that altering the ingredients causes Starlite to fail, and that none of the heat resistant paints currently available that they've tested were anywhere near as effective as Starlite. As for not handling the passage of time, Thermashield claim to have tested a 20 year old sample, and found it was just as effective today as it was 20 years ago.

  • @davidallen111

    @davidallen111

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@BainesMkII Starlite, as made in the videos on YT, can do everything that the inventor demonstrated on TV decades ago. If you are careful with it, Starlite can last decades. It is not the heat resistance that fails with use, it is it's structural integrity, which makes it impractical for most industrial uses. They have yet to demonstrate that Thermashield starlite has any better structural integrity than homemade Starlite. Thermashield has yet market a product based on Starlite. Experts believe that Thermashield might be able make Starlite marketable by substituting modern composites into the original recipe, which was claimed to edible by the inventors daughter.

    The experience of being in an acoustically dead room is really very cool. I'd love to have one in my house just to sit and read in. Edit if you back a project on Kickstarter you should consider that money gone whether you receive a product or not. It's an investment in the potential of an idea, not a fucking store. I'm so sick of people demanding refunds because a far fetched idea they backed failed. I get it if the thing is an outright scam, although I'd also argue *caviat emptor* when you're "investing" in a startup business or product. But seriously, it's not a shop and you shouldn't be backing projects EXPECTING a finished product. You should be backing projects because you think they're worthy or interesting, and if you get a product at the end of it all, it's a bonus.

    The current fire retardant coatings are decent. I dipped a cloth in this liquid, and when it dried, I used a propane torch to burn a hole in it. This took about 30 seconds and the flames did not spread. If you painted it on thick enough it might be possible to replicate the egg trick. You can order the FR chemicals from Amazon for about $80 US for a 5 gallon bucket. You can also mix it into paint if you don't want the walls of your house to catch fire.

    People have figured out what Starlight is made of. It was a mix of starch, baking soda and water. It takes a remarkable amount of heat to break down baking soda into CO2 and Qucklime. The starch melts and gets turned into an insulating foam as it traps the CO2. The foam then uses up more energy as the starch breaks down into refractory carbon foam and slowly burns away. Someone has improved the formula considerably by replacing the water with Elmer's glue, as the dried glue not only holds it together well, it also takes heat energy to break it down, too. The one reason it is not in common use is that it attracts moisture in humid conditions or gets wet in the rain and falls apart.

    you probably need to make sure the granules are not in contact with each other and the surface. If they are, that could let moisture wick its way in. Baking soda is hygroscopic and starch is water permeable.

    Having worked in a vacuum repair shop, I can admit that Dyson vacuums are one of the best bagless vacuum cleaners available. Now, having gotten that out of the way.... Bagless vacuums are horrible dirty little pieces of garbage that even cheap bagless vacuums can outperform on a regular basis. Yes, you have to buy bags, but the bags cost WAY LESS than any bagless filters that should be replaces on a REGULAR BASIS lest the vacuum get EVEN MORE disgusting than it already is. This is accounting for any filter replacements you need for your bagged vacuum. Dyson vacuums are also really annoying to repair, and don't you DARE believe that when they say "lifetime warranty belt" they are talking about the lifetime of the owner. It's the lifetime of the VACUUM, and on one of the two clutch systems that Dyson uses, you cannot replace the belt without BREAKING the clutch and needing to replace that as well. It even says so in the repair manuals... I hated it whenever someone brought in a Dyson and I had to clean them... They are impossible to get totally clean because of all the nooks and crannies that you can't get any tools into to clean... Okay, I'm done ranting now.
