THINGS I REGRET BUYING: Makeup kit + business things!

I've seen the trend going around where influencers talk about all of the dumb purchases they've made since becoming influencers and I wanted to take my own spin on it! So here are all of the things that I have regretting purchases or were not smart investments since becoming a makeup artist.

    Hi Julie, about the RCMA palette. . .thats what I actually used in makeup school. I only used that for the entire face. You were talking about a mixing medium, but my teacher told me to mix it with a mosturizer. When I want a fuller coverage I use less mosturizer than if i would want lesser coverage. I used this palette on my mom for a wedding we went to last month. I used it for foundation, color correcting, and concealer. Her makeup turned out very well and she got a lot of comments and she normally has very dry skin. But if you want the dewey look you were talking about, this palette is not good for that because this has more of natural skin-like finish. Although I think liquid products look much better on the skin, I still will be keeping the RCMA palette in my kit for the color correcting shades or for backup colors in case I dont have something. I'm a new artist and have not started working yet, but I want to get some liquid foundations and concealers before I start :)

    Hi Jas! Thank you so much for your input :) I definitely don't have any personal vendetta against it at all. I know a TON of people love creams and having a versatile palette to work with. It's just not how I like to work as an artist, but I'm glad you've gotten it to work for you and love it! It's always easier to work with the types of foundations that you get trained with originally.

    Also, I have the graftobian creme palette and I like it because it's like a failsafe product if I just can't nail down a shade match with my liquids, but overall working with creams is sooooo much more cumbersome than liquids! Love this look, I keep seeing a euphoria fake freckle kinda vibe….❤️❤️ I only like the Charlotte Tilbury concealer with the sponge ripped off, each application has to be fresh or it gets dry, thick & caked. Using this with the sponge was awful, the old crusty concealer thickens and gets mixed with the new just creating a gloopy mess. The formula doesn’t do well overall when exposed to air. I’ve never been able to make RCMA work right for me, I can’t get coverage without it looking dry and textured …i don’t find it all that “skin like” I could never image working out of palettes, I’ve yet to find a perfect all in one palette …customizable pans all the way! The stilla liquid shadows/glitters dry up really quickly for me…I never end up getting $$ worth. Naked lashes are amazing, especially for those not used to wearing lashes …they don’t feel heavy or uncomfortable. :)

I just use it strategically. I don't put it near any creases or wrinkles because it will crease even if you set it. Also I use it as a contour. I actually prefer graftobian over rcma because it looks more skin light due to how creamy it is. But when it comes to a bride I would use rcma hands down as a foundation on a bride over graftobian.

    So I have been trying to get those containers you use off Amazon for ever but they are always unavailable😩 and watching this I thought those bins you used looked like a good idea even though they didn’t work for you I figured I’d try them anyways if they didn’t work I’d return them 🤷🏻‍♀️ buttt I just got done with my kit and I am actually loving it an satisfied with it because it’s so much cleaner then those black foam insurts sooo just wanted to say thankyouuu because I would have never known about those containers if it wasn’t for your video! Lol idk if this was a weird comment but I just thought what doesn’t work for someone might work for someone else

    Hahahahaha i had to laugh as I just bought a luggage style case with wheels 2 months ago as it was the cheapest ($89), signed up with OMA a month ago (used your code) and am slowly going thru the video lessons as I have a young kid at home. I won't start a business for several years as I'm just starting to apply makeup on myself plus I have no idea what type of style I'll end up loving. It's awesome to learn from others so I don't waste money along the way so thank you for your videos I'm glad I found you!! Quick question, i love Natasha Denona eyeshadows, do you know if spraying alcohol will dry out her cream to powder formula?

  • @julieruby

    @julieruby

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes, usually people do gravitate towards the ones with wheels since they tend to be more cost efficient when starting out which is totally understandable! Hopefully you are learning a lot from the OMA makeup course! Thank you so much for all of your kind and support :) As for the ND eyeshadows, I've personally never worked with them before, but any time you do spray alcohol on products, it will over time dry them out no matter what. If you are afraid of this, I would pick up the Beauty So Clean spray. It can be found on Camera Ready Cosmetics or any other pro online site.

    Hey here’s a great topic for debate - what’s everyone’s thoughts on MUA’s stocking their kit with some things from TJ Maxx and stores of that sort? I don’t mean the entire kit. Just products here and there. Does anyone see any issue with picking up products here and there that you find there? I’m only curious cause I don’t really see an issue. It’s products that have been sitting - I get that. But I’m talking unswatched, sealed and in packaging. You can find some great Mac and ABH lipsticks for $7. And so on and so forth. Just curious your thoughts and anyone else’s?

    @@julieruby Hahah I love Charlette Tisbury foundations. Their foundations and face powders are great (I like the CT pressed powder way BETTER than MAC Mineralize Skinfinish). However, Idk if this is just my experience, but their PillowTalk powder blush and their Filmstar Bronze&Glow are SUPER overrated. I purchased them both from the website, and the blush sorta reminds me of a slight sunburn, and the Bronze and Glow aren't that special; especially the glow portion of that pallet isn't good. Both of these products aren't *terrible,* and so I'll use them until everything is completely panned, but I will NOT repurchase them. At least I only paid $18 for the blush, since the CT website had a promo where you could buy both items together.

    So, I've tried my share of CT products, some great, some not, complexion is best. My big con about it is the perfume.. afraid of allergic reactions. Don't understand how brands like Nars and MAC use so much doefoot applicators. That's, to me, isn't geared to pros in the first place. In the second place: it's not higienic even for personal use. I still love the MAC Prologwear concealer with its great packaging. It stays pristine and clean for so long..

  • @julieruby

    Yes some things from CT are 50/50. Skincare, lips, and powder is at the top for me! The foundations definitely do have a more perfumey scent yes. NARS uses the most doe foots and I don't get it either when it's supposed to be used by pros (although some artists don't care about hygiene). Yes, I used Prolongwear concealer for the longest time first starting out as a freelance artist.
