Things Aren’t Looking Good For Vladimir Guerrero Jr...

Спорт

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr is off to a rocky start to the season and coming off of a pretty horrible game against the New York Yankees. The Toronto Blue Jays slugger walked into the season with high hopes after a successful offseason; however, so far it looks as if Vlad is a bit lost at the plate. It is still very early on and I still anticipate Vladimir Guerrero Jr to turn it around, but right now it just isn't working for him. Comment your thought's down below about Vladdy and about the Toronto Blue Jays team as a whole!

Really good analysis. He's an incredibly frustrating player with all the talent in the world, but who completely lacks the ability or desire to learn and adapt. He wants to do it _his_ way, and until that changes, he's getting that slider low and away all day long.

It’s not early days - it’s just a continuation from last year. It seems to me that 2021 was the outlier and this is who Vlad is. Personally, I would bench him and give the young, hungry guys a chance to show their stuff.

What is most disappointing about him is that he seems to not be developing into a better hitter over time, but is just getting worse. Sure, he'll still hit bombs occasionally, but if that's all we wanted we'd settle for a guy like Vogelbach, who at this point would end up with the same numbers as Vlad if he played an entire season.

That is why I think he should be traded. He will never be a leader, just a child. The pitchers do not respect him, they just go after him. Some how he got a big pay increase for being the leader in double play hits and base running errors. I also do not hear the criticism when he plays bad or makes mistakes.

It’s obvious to me that every team since 2021 has done a deep dive on Vladdy jr.! They know his weaknesses……..and yes……that big swing is great if you make contact……but it’s a curse if you don’t! He hasn’t changed his swing one bit and the other teams know it! He keeps swinging at that outside junk…….and then they bust him with the fastball! He really needs to cut down his swing and stop trying to pull everything! He was at his best when he used to just drop the bat on the ball and send it the other way! He used to own pitchers…….now they own him!

Sid on BT said it after the Wild Card Series last year. Vlad & Bo are “veterans” now, but they’re still not ready to lead this team. Vladdy hasn’t been able to replicate the success he had in the minors consistently at the MLB level. So far this season, Bo looks like he’s somehow matured backwards since 2023. It’s the 6th MLB season for both these guys, it doesn’t feel like we’ve made 5 years worth of progress with this core.

Maybe one solution would be that they need to stop with the tablet. Every time they fail at the plate, they go back to the bench to review/reinforce their failure. It's what may have been what killed them last season, and it continues this season. This may or may not be the only thing that is keeping them from success, but I think that every time I see them in the dugout after an at-bat. This isn't an issue that can be dismissed as early season jitters or whatever because he's been in decline for 2 full seasons now, and he already had a month of spring training to get his approach tuned up. Is he un-teachable or is the coaching incompetent and not identifying the changes he needs to make? - and he does need to make changes to his approach because he is lost at the plate; lunging at pitches out of the zone and not even barreling up pitches down the middle of the plate. Personally I think they should have cleared out most of the coaching staff after last season - including Shnieder. It's obvious that they've been unable to offer any meaningful assistance to struggling hitters like Varsho and Guerrero - even Chapman going back to last season. Mattingly was a great hitter but that doesn't make him a great teacher - I don't see any positive outcomes from his role on the team. If this keeps up they should seriously consider trading Vlad.

I think the coaches need to tell Vladdy he can't swing at any pitches for a few games. This will result in several things happening. He will get on base more frequently, hit into fewer double plays but most importantly force pitchers to put it in the strike zone. After a few games, I would tell him he can only swing at one pitch per at bat. This would force him to be more selective. I would move him down in the batting lineup (5, 6, 7??). Finally, if he was unwilling/unable to comply with instructions I would sit him for a couple of games. If none of this works, then it's time to dump him.

Because all he wants to do is be flashy and and try and be a hero and hit a horme run. He is his own worst enemy. His ego is his downfall. I honestly don’t understand how any baseball fan could possibly like this guy. And I don’t think people understand that this is it; this is the pinnacle of what Vladdy is and what he can do. He just isn’t the player everyone thinks he is. This is his 6th (ish) year in the bigs and he has been underwhelming except in 2021. 2021 was a fluke year. Personally, I can’t stand him. I think he is toxic with his immaturity, laziness and ego.

Now it’s 9 days after this video and he’s doing the same crap at the plate. It really seems like he can’t SEE the ball, still swinging at garbage way outside the zone. When he does make contact, it’s not hit out of the infield. His ATTITUDE is a problem too. He’s all smiles and chuckles and plays the joker but his game is certainly OFF. The team NEEDS MORE from a 1st baseman. Let’s not forget his horrendous mindless running game losing error in last year’s playoffs getting picked off at 2nd base. His head is not in the game the way it should be. Something needs to change for this guy and ONLY HE CAN DO IT !

Not to criticize Vladdy so much, but I remember when Vladdy and Bo, and some other guys were the hot young kids just up from the minors and they were so much fun to watch. Now Vladdy and Bo have become so boring. Fortunately there’s another group of hungry young kids that are making the game fun to watch. That’s what it’s all about. Winning is nice, but you can’t always win - but it should always be fun. That’s like Chapman last year. He wasn’t any fun to watch at the plate because you already knew what he was going to do.

This team doesn't have the right mentality to win a world series part of the reason for that is there isn't any jeopardy in North american sports get rid of the playoffs and you will get much more competitive league teams that actually want to win. 162 games should be enough to settle who wins a championship. An actual league format is better. Best team after 162 games in the American league vs the best nl team in the world series if you must have some sort of playoff. Teams would legitimately start trying to win then making trades and off season more exciting. Every loss and win should matter it's crazy that it doesn't in baseball that's north american sports in general though.

It’s the same thing every year. These guys all go down to spring training for a month and a half and it’s basically a big socializing party before the regular season. It’s predominantly A, AA and AAA players and invitees to spring training who play the games. The “big cheeses” like Vladdy and co. miss half the games and don’t get in their reps. By the time spring training is over, the Jays have done a great job getting their minor league affiliates prepped and most of the regulars are not ready yet. Like what are we doing here?

Well…they won yesterday with exactly one run from a HR. And 2 passed balls created the other 2 runs. And coming off a series where they got no-hit earlier than any other franchise in MLB history on April Fools’ Day no less. And followed that up with being 1 hit the next day. Another dubious franchise record too for lowest number of hits in a 3 game series….9. And 8 of those came in 1 out of the 3 games. Their “star” players of Springer, Vladdy, Bichette and Varsho are hitting .143, .172, .120 and .160 respectively and the team batting average is well below the Mendoza line as well at something like .176. I am sure the opposing pitchers are prepared for the Jays as they should be. I am also not sure how well prepped or taking seriously the Jays are for the opposing pitchers, however, especially how bad Vladdy looked yesterday and even smiling after striking out once.

Otherwise Biggio is their best hitter with a .211 avg LOL So they all suck and clearly had no gameplan for Stroman. Also where the hate for Bichette? He's batting even worse than Vlad along with Springer and Varsho. Vladdy at 10 strikeouts though is off the page for him and it won't last. But while he's struck out the most he's also taken the 2nd most walks on the team. At this point though were' comparing trash to trash though. lol

Whether it be juiced balls, minor league parks or no minor league season in 2020 meaning some pitching stagnation, it wasn't real. Semien and Vladdy hit 50% more homers than there next highest season, something was going on.

He is terrible, swinging at bad pitches , even Bo is and after a comeback with a chance to go ahead in top of 9th Springer swings at 2 pitches that were way outside.a terrible at bat! Atkins has let the Jay's down again ,pitching is a big problem, catcher is a big problem still Kirk overweight still and can't run the bases and isn't producing, Vladdy is a mess,Bo not hitting, it's a mess Atkins has created, Schneider is not a good coach, maybe Shipiro and Atkins can save the team with Hot Dog Days and Bobble Head Day! Time for Jay's fans to let Atkins know he has let this team and fans down! Demand change or hit the road Atkins your time is up!

Was simply joking that perhaps the same plan may work for Vlad. Vlad has shown little plate patience since he originally came up, everybody knows that.
