    Having heard tribrids like EST112 and The Variations, I don’t find the treble quality jumps out compared to BA based iems. For example, the Mangird Tea (BA based treble driver) to my ears, has more delicate and sweeter treble than both. Another tribrid the MEST II does stand out in expansiveness in the treble region, but I’m not sure it’s the tuning of the treble or the driver type that contributes to that. After listening to many hybrids, I find full BA implementation like the SA6 has a more coherent or consistent sound than some BA-DD hybrid setup. So much so that when I choose a hybrid iem, the first thing I look for is the coherency between the DD and BA drivers. Now I actually prefer having two sets of IEMs, one fully BA like the SA6 and RSV, and another with a single DD or triple-DD.

    How would you compare SA6 to Tea?

  • @zeissiez

    @zeissiez

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@fabiolopes5700 SA6 has less treble and bass extension, the mid has better density and timbre. SA6 has more pronounced mid bass and Tea has not sub bass. Tea has bigger soundstage, especially depth, better layering. Overall SA6 is more rounded and smoother, pretty neutral but slightly gravitate in mid and mid-low. Tea is more detailed in the treble, and brighter in the treble, therefore leaner and colder sounding. But the treble is never fatiguing. The SA6 is warmer, thicker and denser sounding. Two very different tuning.

    I had the same impression & thoughts too at first but after giving it a little more time (a week+), I kinda dig the character of EST although it's not as "natural" sounding as most balanced armatures or hybrids can do. so I have developed a different opinion of the implementation of (Sonion) EST and a different approach of music listening after that. within my super wide library, it's easier to tell if the recording is great or not with Oracle's neutral, clean & resolving presentation. but it's far from perfect. I won't call it an all-rounder IEM either as I think it's slightly music types dependent (mixing/mastering styles to be precise). unless you listen to everything with open heart. but it does have all that mandatory sonic qualities of musical playback while being near-analytical and I find it very engaging that makes me want to keep listening to a different type of music or the untouched parts of my library every single time. so I discovered a lot more new beautiful songs once I grasp the nature of it. I think perhaps I'm so used to BAs' sound for all my life but I'm glad I tried. I don't know about other tribrids because Oracle is my first and I think it's a really really well-tuned set. I once thought that Sonion EST acts as a 'supplement' only to extend the upper-treble response. I was wrong. Moondrop Variations, Dunu EST112 & ThieAudio tribrids are using EST as the main source, the foundation of the whole treble reproduction. and I notice that UM MEST uses EST only for that extension job and I think that might be the 'right' way to do it. I don't know, but Elysian Annihilator exists. I also prefer having one full-BA and a single DD IEM just for coherency & dynamics (single DD). yeah, Oracle is lacking in dynamics too but it does tilt my perspective a bit. cheers

    It is hard to tell if the use of estats and triple hybrids is actually coming from consumer demand or manufacturers announcing the use of new driver tech to get the consumer interested. I think it is probably the latter. I'm less likely to buy a triple or quadruple hybrid or any model were a particular type of driver tech is a big feature. I am attracted to established tech done very well.

    Oracle is pretty balanced with classical. there is no 'weird' acoustic instrument timbre, as I listen to many chamber, orchestral, minimalism, contemporary, sonata, concerto, & modern classical with the Oracle. I can assure that it's very engaging every single time though perhaps it's a little 'lean' but not thin on the note weight. great imaging although not to the pin-point accuracy, good depth, above-average sound stage width, excellent separation & layering. it's clean, uncolored and resolving though it lacks microdynamics & punch. good transients response but I think it could be better. it's more a neutral than 'fun' IEM
