I'm from Croatia and as much as I was proud on 2018 Croatian run on world cup, Neville is right, cause we as a small and new nation can't wait the moment we prove to some "old football force" as England that we were better. As an Englishman I completely agree with Modric and Gary Neville helped prove his point.

I really think football coverage in the uk needs more trained sports journalists (the kind with knowledge about obscure lower and international league teams, able to pronounce foreign names, not just the stars.) Most of the ex players are blatantly hypocritical and make no attempt to describe the gameplay. And instead roll out the same few superlatives in between distracting anecdotes. There are a few goid ones but coverage is not as good as it used to be.

Neville not only makes what Modric said a case in point he shows again how much he lacks intelligence in general even though many would think he is arrogant I think more that he cannot help because he lacks intelligence.

When English football pundits talk about the English team vs any other team there's always this cocky bias. Sometimes it's getting quite annoying because after a while it simply sounds exactly like what Modric described: they are not giving enough credit or respect to the opposition; talking of them as if the opposition surely can't be that much of a big deal. This is what Modric pointed out and he's more than right to do so.

It's good to have national pride, not national arrogance. I'm Indian and we have the same mentality with Cricket so I know a thing or two about that kind of arrogance when I see it.

with all due respect, and while I hate Neville, that only proves that your ear is not used to hearing english spoken in local dialects but rather you are able to understand it more as spoken by forigners because they speak it more in the way it would be taught to you in school. If you lived in Britain and spoke English with locals for a few years you would still hate gary neville but you wouldn't have a go about the way he talks.

Still Scholes did have a good outing. 2UCL's and one Cup winners cup aint shabby, plus several EPL titles and Cups. I've never seen a more humble, grounded and likeable group of players as England have since 2017-18 and that's all that matters. As for the media, English pundits for English audience have English bias, who would've thought? Even though I respect the individuals on the English team because they are talented, i will always support whatever side plays England, only because the English football media is so absurd, arrogant, and self-important. They act like the football world revolves around them only because they have the EPL, even though few English players are among the best players in that league. England can take note: Croatia, a country much smaller with fewer resources, has been a dominant force in international football for quite some time now. If you compare the recent records of these two teams, maybe the English have something to learn.

The pundits were in total denial. What Modric said was true. The english media and teams really do believe their own hype. Which then leads their teams to underestimate non english opponents. In the end they lose the match. The best example of this was when RM won the UCL last season. We're RM the best team? Definitely not. Did Rm deserve it? Sure they did, because they never gave up. The english teams underestimated them. When RM finally won, the pundits were like "oh, they are the luckiest team ever, bla bla bla". It was luck and not sheer determination and respect for the opponents. The plain truth was that the English teams are superior and have technically capable players, but their downfall was that they underestimated RM. Thats why RM made those comebacks and won the UCL.

Give an example of them claiming that England were favourites to win, explain how they forced any of their opinions on anyone, explain how they forced their opinions over to Croatia. They consider themselves to be about 4th to 6th best, which is where they are ranked based on performance. They could win, and they should make it to semi-finals which they do. Nobody underestimated Croatia, it's just a close game and could go either way. It's like losing on penalties and saying it's because they were cocky. English teams have won 3 of the last 5 UCL finals. Real Madrid has won once in the last 5 years. Your point is idiotic, did Real Madrid underestimate the teams that beat them?
