Tbf, by far the single hardest technical challenge of Rush E on piano is the repeated notes, which is trivially easy for a good violinist because you can just do an even tremolo. And really, all the passagework is easier on violin - the other hardish part is the 16ths at end of the A section, which involves some somewhat knotty traversal on piano (quick sequences right into an arpeggio right back up to a descending scale) but on violin it’s all in the same place. Add to that the fact that you’re not playing the accompaniment on violin either, and it’s not even close in terms of relative difficulty. This dude is a beast though, he can clearly play much harder things than this, you can see how easy this was for him and how he effortlessly added extra challenges. This was awesome regardless.

If there are those who are wondering why at 1:34 he played the violin with a bow like that i will tell you why: when you play at the frog of the bow you can make more sound, its the heavier part of the bow, but its easier to make quick bow movements at the tip, so he put the frog at the tip so he could play really fast with more accented notes

@@Fluffernater the bow (stick in hand) has different parts to it. basically the frog is the lower part of the stick. Playing there produces a fuller sound. However, it’s easier to move your bow super fast when you play with the tip of the bow, more movement basically. So he combined the two to get a full sound while playing real fast at the same time. Hope that helps

I just want to share, now that my time as a teacher is done. Your performance of Rush E was of great joy to many 5-year olds. When this song would blast from the speaker, the kids knew they were going to have a dance party. As your playing hit mach-speed, I would throw down ribbons and the kids would go positively bonkers for it. "PLAY IT AGAAAAAAAAAAAIN". You beat the guy that did this on an accordion and the bagpipes guy by a long shot. Thank you for having your fabulous work out in the world, because you helped us make some grand memories. Somewhere this song will live on in their little memories. "Dance Party time!"

As a violinist, I think i have the answer! Playing violin quickly is difficult; the bow is sometimes so light it goes flying off the strings in the middle of a lick. Flipping the bow so that the heavier frog is on top but still close to the strings may be to keep the bow on the strings. I'll experiment with this a little as soon as I can. Also, violin cannot play the lower part, as the lower part is a bass clef and violin is in treble. It has 2 octaves of difference, making it impossible to play low C on violin.

Rob Landes, i know you created this video over 2 years ago but i really hope you see this. I just you to know that you are my inspiration. You see, i am a violinist myself, but i'm only beginning to learn arco. I just want to hop to myself that i can become as good as you are at playing the violin. Rob Landes, i want you too know that you are my hope, my inspiration. I hop you have an amazing day for the rest of you life :)
