If you don’t want to watch it because it’s not the same descendants you grew up with that’s understandable but the best part about them making a new one is that they aren’t trying to make it like the original.

I personally think that even if it is good people will just look at and give it hate simply because Cameron isn't in it

The only way I see this working is if they do a spin off focusing on Uma since she's a character people already know but she isn't strongly linked to Mal, which would give the excuse for why the VK crew in Auradon isn't around. Or even do an animated spin off that way all they'll need is a good VA for the characters without worrying about other aspects I guess. I love Wicked World and it has some characters that you only see in the animated series and not in the movies. Like Ally, Freddie, CJ Hook, etc. Overall, this move will only work in Disney's favor if they actually listen to the fans. Otherwise, it'll just read as a desperate greedy move from Disney.

Not sure if anyone knows this but, there was technically a 4th descendents movie. It was an animated special about Mal and Ben's wedding. They actually mention Carlos saying they miss him. So the character is canonically dead. They don't say it but it's implied.

I don't think he died I think maybe he's in a different part of Aradon. Its a really big world with multiple kingdoms, cities, towns, magically places, etc that hasn't being shown especially behind the great wall.

This movie exists solely for money. I felt like Descendants Royal Wedding was a fitting sendoff. Plus, without all 4 of its main components still active, what's the point really?

Looks like this franchise might be making the same mistake as Winx Club: going too long.

@@Gabbythefoxcat winx had the formula of a graet show, s1 was an awesome, season two had great storylines, and s3 was just peak, great pacing, awesome story and fight scenes, nice sub plots. season 4 is a natural, post-graduation season that i felt wasn't necessary but appreciated, watching roxy becoming an honororary member and student. Roxy not joining them in s5 made no sense

6:43 Ok as someone who was in the Descendants fandom...Uma (and china anne mcclains overall involvement) was actually a big deal, and Uma became as loved and as popular as the core four. You described Ben as being the main 5 when including him, Uma is essentially the main 6 in that regard. She probably didn't resonate with you, which is perfectly fine, but she in fact was a major deal in the franchise and fandom (and a decent portion of people who watched d2 only did to watch china as uma).

@@Ash1627 only thing I will say is that I think it's good that there are only 2 new main characters, they could start short and then in a sequel they can have the movie introduce a new VK, possibly Hadie, Mals younger brother, and have the movie revolve around him like maybe Red, Chloe and him have to travel to the underworld to save his mother Persephone

Every type of show or movie can be good with the right idea and team, but I agree that it is good and healthy to let go of some things when they come to an end. Hollywood often makes this mistake by misinterpreting the public's desires and tastes. For example, a Barbie movie worked and now Hollywood wants to make movies about each toy because they believe that is what the public wants, forgetting that Barbie worked because it was a good movie that had a lot of creativity behind it.

I think The Rise of Red is actually going to be great. The world of Disney is so vast, and it makes sense to continue the world of Descendants with new characters. Not to mention they got Brandy and Paolo back for Cinderella and Prince Charming! I also like the fact that they're not trying to recreate a new Core 4 with this era. they're doing something different and that's a good thing. The cast has also said this one will be a lot more serious and mature than the original trilogy. The action is also a major part in this one too! China and Cameron were also very close growing up and she shared her experience on this film was very healing for her. The entire concept of Red and Chloe traveling back in time to try to stop the queen of hearts from going down her villainous path is actually really interesting to me! Aladdin and Jasmine are also appearing in this one so I'm hoping that means their kids will make an appearance in the series soon!

I'm mixed on how I feel about the new movie. On one hand, I think the story was wrapped perfectly with the Royal Wedding short, and it feels weird to make a new descandants movie with Cameron gone. But at the same time, the world of Auradon is huge, there really is a lot of stories and characters to work with that aren't tied to characters we currently have in the movies. I mean, the books alone show so many characters that could have their own stories. So it makes sense that a new group of characters would be used to tell a story in the world. I'm really worried that the time traveling aspect will butcher the canonical timeline of things, especially based on some of the storyline and casting info we got in the past. Idk, we'll see what happens I guess.

You need to watch Ever After High if you haven't. It has the same idea as Descendants as the main characters in EAH are the kids of fairy tale characters , however the characterization is amazing, and the plot development is fascinating as you watch how each character develop in changing situations.

funny how the Queen of Hearts (Alice Through the Looking Glass) and Cinderella (Cinderella 3 A Twist in Time) both time traveled, and now they're gonna use that story trope again with their children

They won't recast Carlos, he's canonically dead. This was mentioned in that animated short where mal and Ben got married

I thought Cameron’s death meant this franchise was over, but I guess Disney just has to have more money than it already has. It just won’t be the same without Cameron.

I actually like the plots of these movies. First movie was about the 4 learning that they don't have to be evil like their parents. Second Movie was the other villain kids being pissed that they weren't chosen to be pardon out of prison island. Third is about dealing with the consequences of always opening the barrier and what they should do with the island. The way they handled it is just very mid. Oh and i doubt ppl are gonna watch the fourth movie bc Cameron Boyce died and the main cast just won't return.

They should focus on twisted wonderland.

Their a Royal wedding 👸🤴💒 special that came out after the 3 descendants movie and is another great tribute to Cameron Boyce for him and his character.🪦

I mean a movie concept like that is good the only thing is the fact that you attached the decendants name on there that’s the problem this would be a great Disney movie If they just didn’t tie it into the decendants franchise I mean I’ll watch it once it comes out but I probably won’t like no matter how good the actors do I’m probably not going to like it but I will give it a chance at least ❤

I recommend you check out ever after high. The similarities of having all fairy tales at the same universe is gonna hit hard

I’m actually optimistic about it. I like all of the confirmed plot beats of seeing Maleficent, Hades, and basically all the OG’s of Disney Fairytales attending a high school run by Merlin in the past. Along with the new character Red meeting her cruel mother in the past and seeing how totally different of a person she was (aka really nice and naive). While the Cinderella of the past is described as cynical and sarcastic interacting with her future overly sweet daughter. And Uma having to be the mature one, trying to keep Red and her on point. It sounds like a lot of fun. And my theory is, Uma and the other two girls will have to stop the new Big Bad from erasing Mal from the timeline. With the trio having to make sure Hades and Malificent wind up together while also not screwing things up for their own respective parents/futures. But they screw up on one or the other, changing the timeline which’ll be resolved in the fifth film. Like Descendants Meets the “Back To The Future” trilogy.

As in Chad having a sister? Meaning he'd have to be in the film. Yeah, I already don't feel hope for this. I know people keep talking about Cameron Boyce. But literally the only OG cast member coming back is China Ann. Everyone else is brand new. And plus they’re bringing back Brandy to play LA Cinderella and Paulo M (who played Prince Christopher) as the King and Queen for Cinderella’s kid. Which is SUPER exciting because it’ll pull in a bunch of fans of Whitney Houston’s Cinderella. Which I’m coming to the tragic conclusion that a lot of white people have never watched 😂 Which means y’all’s childhoods were deprived of how brilliant that movie was. But yeah even Dove has said it makes sense that Disney is continuing the franchise because it’s such a massive money maker. Plus now that one of the main characters is now a visible black girl. As much as Iove Cameron and the woman who played Audrey. They were white passing. They’re going to get a hella bunch of black people’s money. If only just for toys for their kids.

I was hesitantly excited (even knowing cameron wouldn’t get to be in it, rest in peace) but the minute I heard none of the og cast was returning I lost most hope

with all the comments stating Cameron which is so true; plus the cast literally stated that it would be so hard for them to put on a brave face knowing how heavy it was on their hearts losing not only a great uprising actor/coworker but an earned and true friend both on and off set. I bet you that even when they act their eyes will emote the well-understood grief of their dear friend not in this or even worse they find a body-double actor to take his respected memorial role to guise the fact would be insulting and would only desecrate what they intended to be an ending a long time ago for his memory. I swear if we all see their body language to set off the mood and the making- we should list "Actors and Actresses were harmed in the making of this film" (Both emotionally, psychologically, legally and insulting the dead)

With the teaser at the end of the third movie, I was hyped for what's her name Faciliers daughter to go to Wonderland in the fourth movie, but no such luck.

I’m trying to look at this movie as an entirely different movie than descendants. So I have hope for it. I actually loved Uma as a character and her and Evie were always my favorites so I disagree that she’s “forgettable.” As much as Cameron’s passing affected us all his movies are technically done. They’re not even messing with the main storyline anymore. This follows a completely different story and other characters and Cameron most likely wouldn’t have been a part of it just like the rest of the og cast. So I wish instead of people saying it’s gonna be bad because it’s not the og, they’d look at it as a shared universe movie and try to look at it as something new because that’s essentially what it is. Also, Brandi and Rita Ora are in the movie and China Ann McClain those women have some fantastic vocals especially Brandi but I don’t expect yall to know that. At least the songs will be good. Don’t forget that on top of all that, Kenny Ortega isn’t directing this movie like he did the original 3, as well as Kara Saun not being the character designer like the previous 3 movies as well. 😭 So unless the new director and designers paid VERY close attention to what made the original series so visually special… I’m not having too high hopes. I feel like the Auradonians have fairly easy costuming (pastels, laces, frills, classy clothing), But it’s really going to come down to the new main VK looks and if they can be their own unique characters aside from Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos.

The plot sounds bad BUT at least it's focused on new characters. Don't remember seeing Cinderella's girl and the Queen of Heart's kid together in the movies. I think they are on the shows; don't know much about them i saw a few reviews and that's it. Mal and the others's stories are complete; it's not necessary to continue it. I really don't see waht to add to this franchise; it has enough films and shows already.

I think the only way this movie would be even okay would be focusing on the ppl that the brought from the isle in Descendants 3. They’re already slightly established characters and it would be cool 2 see how they would interact and stuff

I never watched any of the Descendants movies but if the 3rd movie wrapped up the story then i think it's best to leave this franchise alone especially since Cameron Boyce who played one of the main characters died imagine if they tried to revive Jessie as a series it wouldn't feel right without Luke

I honestly don't see this as a fourth Descendants movie but rather a different story set in the same universe. I'm actually really interested in seeing how it plays out cause I'm excited to see Brandy and Paolo back as Cinderella and Charming and their version of the Queen of Hearts looks interesting. I will say she does look kinda young to have a teenage daughter but we'll see how it goes. I'm also very big on not judging something before seeing the whole thing. I say once it comes out then we can critique or praise it.

something i hope people understand is that this new movie is not supposed to be a 4th movie, its the start of a new gen and a new story, at the end of the wedding special roses were painted red and mal says a new story is unfolding after there's ended. this is a new story and a new take in this magical world of descendants, people have to move on and let go of what's already happened, people hating or doubting without not even a trailer really might make this movie suck, whatever you put out to the universe is strong, so hope it does do well and know they are not trying to be the new mal, Evie jay or Carlos, i will say i grew up with the first 3 films, i remember watching them as they came out on Disney channel, i am a fan since day one so this isn't some random person trying to speak over this, its to say to move on so we can get a new story and plot and more!

Okay I’m pretty sure the cast is still trying to deal with Cameron’s death they were all best friends with the kid. Bringing them back into set wether it’s the same on or not it’s still all the same people and that I don’t think could be so good for the actors performance wise and mental health wise

I disagree only cause the key player of Gen 1 was to break the barrier to allow more to follow after since that barrier was a massive story blocker in hinde sight now.

When I heard they announced two more movies and didn’t know any details yet, I thought they would continue with the concept of ‘Descendants’ and make the main characters the kids’ of the characters from the original trilogy. I’m honestly surprised Disney didn’t think of that themselves considering this franchise is based on the idea of the children of known characters. Honestly, I do want to see this idea at some point.

i think they mostly didnt do that in order to expand the world but leave the main narrative as it is. Especially bc this film (at least) is a spinoff movie and not a sequel.

If they get another Carlos I’m gonna 😭 descendants isn’t even canon to Disney but it’s a great franchise in its own right if it didn’t copy Disney and tried to make its own characters and stopped the ban on magic because it’s too cool I would love it

zombies 4 i get it . zombies 3 killed it. but Descendants is..just emotionaly different...cameron is gone..he passed awey before Descendants3 came out. now we get Descendants the rise of red and just gonna ignore carlos.in Descendants The royal wedding we got told that something happend to carlos but its not clear what.and probably we won't get an answer to the question in Descendants the rise of red.and seeing that for in the teaser we didn't got any liek flashback when uma said "when mall asked me..." is not the Descendants style i loved as a kid. now i'm acting in a "better / re-writen Descendants"(project name only) all i can say is that they should just kept the frenchise rest

Cameron died which is extremely tragic and will make it tricky for the next movie but also dove quit Disney so their main character (mal) will need a new actor which i don’t see working out

Maybe not you but uma is not forgettable for a lot of the fandom she’s a fan favourite. I do agree that the new movie will suck tho but I think quite a few will tune in for uma

All I wanted to see was Carlos, Jay and Evie meet their parents after Descendants 1😭

What I would do is just make Jay, Carlos, son of Gaston go on a world trip

Dude, without Cameron it will be so depressing... But the idea of having him be AI-slapped into the film makes me want to comit arson.

Watched it and it in fact didn't suck (except the endy, which is obviously set up for a 5th installment that's already confirmed).

I would watch it for the costumes

In my personal opinion, this franchise would've been better as an animated series instead of that low budget Disney Channel movie. Concept wise the premise sounds pretty interesting. Especially the part where all Disney Heroes and Villains are grown up and having children. However, that first movie just didn't do it for me because I don't like the look of th movie as a live action tv movie. Plus, I find the acting of the main cast so so. Glad some people like it, but the movie didn't work for me.

This seems to be a running thing for Disney when they do sequels. The second and third movies are typically good, but anything beyond that is just a boring, bloated waste of time. Take Pirates of the Caribbean. The first one took the whole world by surprise with how good it was. The second and third movies were also good. But even though I have seen the 4th and 5th movies in this series, I can honestly say I remember NOTHING of these movies apart from Jack and Barbossa being in them and Barbossa looking like the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz with that ridiculous wig. The Toy Story franchise is another good example. The first three movies were AMAZING. I HATED the fourth one with a passion because it RUINED the story and the characters.

They won’t recast Cameron, he’s canonically dead. They mentioned it in an animated special (which also teased the sequel) so there’s some consolation.

Im still heartbroken about Cameron Boyce's death. He had so much he deserved to do so much life he deserved to live.
