THEY POSTED MY FAVORITE CREEK! (Fly Fishing for Wild Trout)

My favorite creek to fish just got posted, which really sucks. All over the country fisherman have to deal with losing access to their favorite spots, and it’s never easy. But despite the minor setback I was able to catch some nice trout and have a good time. Enjoy

Thanks for the video, I enjoy watching people fish skinny waters. Not sure what state you are in, in Maine and New Hampshire we can get landowner permission to fish/hunt on posted properties. The state even has preprinted booklets for us to use. Find out who owns the land and see if they will give you written permission. Don't accept verbal permission. I'm guessing you are correct, other people either left a mess or they were hunting and the landowner did not like it. Don't give up yet! Tight lines!

I was just at the exact spot last week and we got a nice one about like yours on a copper john. I guess I should be thankful that I was able to enjoy that stretch of water for the last half century, and that there’s still good fly fishing upstream😊👍

Yeah and unfortunately it’s likely to keep happening on more creeks. Only safe ones are in state parks or on state game lands

It's not just the landowner's prerogative, it's their *legal responsibility* to post their property. Don't make it about you. You want to fix the 'problem'? Buy some land. And then post it. FWIW, I didn't post my land until someone set a leghold trap not 75 yds from my door; it would've snagged my dog if a raccoon didn't find the bait first. Of course, I immediately called the warden. But he told me I'm lucky someone else's dog didn't get caught bc I would've been liable for damages. Live and learn. That aside, most private landowner's do not own the riparian rights (even if they think they do). If you can find a public right-of-way or easement that provides access, anyone is still able to use a watercourse for recreational purposes provided that they stay within the full-bank width of any watercourse that is graphically represented on a 1:50,000 scale ordinance or topo map. At least, that's how it is where I live. Your mileage may very.

In my state if they own both banks they can post the water as well unless the river is “navigable” basically meaning you would have to have a judge rule that it is based on historical use. This creek definitely would not be considered navigable. I’m not mad at the landowner they have every right to and maybe should post it. I can be sad about not being able to fish that section again without permission and also accept that they didn’t do anything wrong or harm anyone by posting it.

If I came across as blaming the landowner or if it sounded like I was suggesting the rightful posting of private land is a problem that’s not what I was trying to say. I just didn’t have time to really process what happened after driving out there and getting all geared up to fish and didn’t actually think about how my words could be interpreted. It’s not a good thing for me obviously, but it’s not an actual problem for anyone.
