Yes - agreed - it is brilliant !! I saw it on Netflix over a year ago - and many others under that title are equally inventive & imaginatively realised. There are now three series, and they are all shorts - anything between 7 and no more than 12 or so minutes, and cover a great range of possible aspects of the present, the near, and the far future - mostly sci-fi, but also horror and just excellent storytelling - and either in animation or very lifelike CGI. This was one of my favourite episodes!
The final stage of the tiny civilization where the city merged in a single large object is what some would call the singularity. The idea is of a shared consciousness beyond the three dimensional space time we reside in currently and hence, not constraint by temporal or distal limitations. Some have theorized we would probably use technology to first facilitate this and "guide" our evolution towards that end. So, at the end the tiny civilization achieved this and shed their physical existence.

What an extraordinary fridge!!!
It's not as cool as people think having a miniature civilization in the freezer. I don't even interact with mine anymore, because it always turns into me having to be firm and say: "Look, I can't do that. If I just gave you free shit all the time, you'd only get lazy, and your whole situation here would come tumbling down. I'm making you help yourselves because I love you."
This is such a good short movie!!!!
If i found a fridge like this , i wont blink even a second , to know the future
Imagine our universe as aquarium and our solar systems as a clump of nano sized particles moving around inside it. Would residents inside that clump have any hope to realize that their universe is nothing more than an ecosystem that their creator could destroy in instant and start a new?

My God, I've never been this much thrilled and captivated as this movie recap did. The concept is fecking brilliant. If I discovered a fridge like that. I'd try to put my hand in to that miniature civilization and touch everything; I'd like to see how those miniature humans would react.
