Mind Over Matter is such a wonderful song to go with the fight. Much more dramatic and philosophical compared to most tracks, but it fits the characters VERY well.

I have a funny story you might enjoy related to the Martian Manhunter. In my old pop culture college class we were given random superheroes to do a report on. However we were also supposed to cosplay as them as part of our grade and I completely forgot that part. Luckily my hero was the Martian Manhunter and I managed to find a loophole in the cosplay requirement since shapeshifting is one of his powers, meaning I didn’t have to cosplay and I could incorporate it as a disguise.

Ah yes the power cosmic, also know as the writers pulling anything out of thin air for the plot to move forward. Seriously look up what the power cosmic can do just by having it, its overpowered in the Marvel Universe. I do like that we do have these two guys fighting as they are very similar to being philosophers and sometimes the group therapist, mostly John as we saw him in the JLA and the JLA Unlimited series.

Feels weird considering in many stories with the power comsic it usually doesn't seem all that impressive and the person who has it usually jobs hard. Silver Surfer being the prime example of this. Even Galactus is treated as a joke at times despite wielding it

Agreed and agreed; the Power Cosmic is just too deep a well to beat without a similarly deep well. Even so, I find this fight frustrating, because I need to understand the fight (the purpose and the stakes) if I'm going to opine how it plays out. J'onn is the only superhero with not just one secret identity but (at his peak) probably dozens ... one of whom is the Japanese kaiju-fighting hero Bio-Armor Jade Warrior, and another of whom is a stray cat in Italy.

The only thing I underestimated about him before this was his shapeshifting. That at least explains part of his super move in the injustice game, though I don't know if that takes place in real life or in the mind.

Bill Cipher is from Gravity Falls and Discord is from My Little Pony, the matchup was chosen for and won one of the polls Death Battle did last year where channel members pick 2 matchups for this season.

I was not expecting an ad for the live action One Piece. We basically got 2 reactions in one video :D But yeah, they're not kidding when they say Oda has been heavily involved in the production. He was heavily involved in the casting, *especially* Luffy's actor. He regularly wrote storyboards for live action scenes. He regularly had compulsory screenings for many scenes before giving his stamp of approval. He actively promotes the show and cast in his notes for his readers and was at the premiere of the first episode in LA like a few days ago. He literally called this live action production his "last chance" to share One Piece with the world. And to think the first episode is dropping on Netflix *TOMORROW* For me, personally, even though I still don't think One Piece translates to live action smoothly, I'm excited for some of the cast members, like Inaki Godoy as Luffy, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and other characters I can't say.

If Oda is happy with it then I think it’s a good sign

I loved how different this DB felt when both characters knew that one of them had to die, but neither knew why. Kind of like a fourth wall break due to how wise and cosmic these two are. I figured Silver Surfer was going win with his abilities and being able to make Martian Manhunter feel the pain of fire in his head while fighting in a sun/star Also, the game footage at 5:18 was from a DC fighting game called "Injustice: Gods Among Us" where Martian Manhunter was a DLC character. As for the next DB of it being Bill Cipher vs. Discord, I do look forward to this cause between this and Cole Macgrath vs. Alex Mercer, this was voted by the Death Battle community. So with me knowing next to nothing about Gravity Falls (I have heard of Bill Cipher) and My Little Pony, I do look forward to why this was chosen and how crazy this fight will get One last thing, I don't know if I'm just looking too far into this, but it seems like they purposely made the two characters that are based on (to my knowledge) causing chaos and such have the public episode released on 9/11...

Because he loves games, he has a self-imposed rule that if anyone can trick him into saying his own name backwards (which is pronounced "kill-tip-see-zim"), he will be banished back to the Fifth Dimension and be unable to return for at least 90 days. Also, he was voiced by the late, great Gilbert Gottfried.

In a very recent comic, martian manhunter was actually surrounded by the flames of hell and managed just fine without any external assistance or amps. And he was nearly as effective in the fight as an amped Supergirl. Very impressive feat to say the least

What gets me about this battle is that these two were the first to figure out the parameters of Death Battle and their situation without breaking the Fourth Wall like Deadpool, Pinkie Pie and the Mask did. They also realized they didn't have the power to change it and accepted their respective fates - the final release from his cosmic level grief and turmoil for Martian Manhunter, and the weight of another death on his conscience and the uncertainty of why the fight had to happen in the first place for Silver Surfer.

The place where stitch and rocket fight can be seen in the bg also stitch vs rocket had a silver shooting star near the start foreshadowing this

Yes. Mr. Myx (don't ask me to write his full name) is an all powerful being, he can do whatever to our universe like he was a cartoon character on full toon force. But he can be sent back to his dimension if he says or writes his name. And can be disabled completely if he does so backwards. There's a very fun episode of the Superman animated series where he shows up and Supes just sends him back within 10 seconds by doing something as simple as "oh it's you Mr. Maximize " to what Myx yells his name to correct him. Or make mistakes on his journalistic report and gives it to Myx to correct only for the spelling mistakes to be exactly Myx's name.

I may not know a lot about the Bill Cipher and Discord but I'd imagine that it's going to be a pretty crazy fight.

Discord is the personification of Chaos, and from what I have heard, Bill is pretty crazy as well. And Discord feeds on Chaos, so the more chaos, the stronger he becomes. So it should be absolute chaos.

There's actually no singular way to say Mr mxyzptlk. It's been pronounced differently in different series but I believe the most accepted version is Miks-yez-pittle-ik.

No not the fastest before this Thor, Sentry and Ares were also stated to able to move, react and fight within planck time.

The planck time feat mentioned here isn't even the fastest feat in Martian Manhunter's analysis, let alone the fastest in the show. I believe fastest speed feats that are quantifiable still go to Spongebob and Darkseid, but many characters, including both in this episode, have immeasurable speed feats that even faster than that. Also J'onn absolutely looks like a good guy lmao They yet again did not hide any feats until the verdict that you would NEED to know the winner lol, that's never been done. This is one of the more onesided fights we've had in a while. The Power Cosmic is every bit as bullshit as the Speed Force is, in fact it's arguably even more, depending on who you ask. Wally West vs Silver Surfer would be an awful DB with no worthwhile connections, but it would be an interesting debate

Mr Mxyzptlk is a 5th dimensional imp, and in the 3rd dimension he has basically infinite power over everything. He likes to play games with Superman. Making him say his name backwards is the only way to make him leave. You say it Mix is pit lick.

This episode gave me vibes of my most wanted MU, Doctor Manhattan from DC/Watchmen, Vs Richard Nixon from The Monument Mythos/The Nixonverse. Also while I'm not a One Piece guy, I do hope the Netflix show is good just so there's a good live action anime adaptation, cause every other one is either horrendous or nobody talks about them, I mean did you know there was a live action Bleach movie?

This was a very interesting Death Battle, but the next one will be extra interesting because it was chosen by the Public. Look forward to it.

21:00 - Silver Surfer was an obvious win to me. I only know basics obout both of them, But i know slightly more about Silver Surfer than Martian Manhunter. About J'onn i only known that He is Shapeshifter, Telepath he has weakness to Fire, and He's one of founding members of Justice League. Meanwhile Silver Surfer has precticly god-like powers, In Silver Surfer The Animated Series from 1998 (yes, he had his own show, but only with 13 episodes), during the Series finale, Thanos created machine that alows him to reverse time itself, and he use it to unbirth the Universe, while the Silver Surfer was the only person unaffected. Also in Comic Story Series called "Thanos Wins", Thanos killed almost all living beings in Universe, and there are olny 3 people left, Those people are: Hulk, Silver Surfer and Thanos himself.(there's also Ghost Rider in there, but he's already dead, so he's only there to see how it all ends) 23:13 - As fan of both shows, i tell Bill will most likely win. Other than actually killing people, Bill is bigger trickster and strategist then Discord. Bill almost won, despite few contingency plans agints him. While Discord ironically had contingency plans to reassure his victory, but they either work way to late or eventually stop working. Not to mention Discord is surprisingly easy to manipulate if you know which buttons to push. Also Discord Chaos Powers were stolen on multiple occasions. (It's even easier to steal them in Comics).

We just saw something special. (Spoiler potential). The 4th wall breaking, without it going full force. They knew of why, without full knowledge of how or what. Now comes the chaos. Followed in two months by the Halloween episode I'm assuming to be Cole McGrath vs Alex Mercer (Infamous vs Prototype).

If you're curious, manhunter was another term for detective back when the original comics made, so essentially his actual hero name is Martian Detective, but manhunter just sounds much cooler.

Ha, i love how Reed thinks Surfer is the strongest, meanstwhile his own son… well his sone is creating full on multiverses while he is bored, just because he thought of an imaginary reality, and wanted it to exist… yeah… empowered kids be scary…

So yeah, martians in the dc universe really like apostrophes, their names and places all have them. Like mars for example is M'arzz in the young justice tv show.

Sure some now assume that's what almost all the angels were in the bible which is statistically incorrect in what was directly stated, but I think the positive gain of knowledge of them is more than the negative impact of assumption stemming from this.

@@BJGvideos It's moreso that there were a lot of people with a cursory knowledge of Christian concepts, including that. Biblically accurate angels became more of a popular thing because they were cool and it explained certain reasonings behind other depictions of angels in media that were "non-standard". Granted, the "meme" of it, happened a long time ago, and came mostly from tumblr and a little bit from youtube if I'm remembering correctly. So it's a pretty standard thing now.

8:37 WRONG. Ben 10 Aliens look like DC aliens. And Marvel aliens for that matter too. No coincidence since basically half of the people working at the DC side of Warner Bros' animation department started up and worked on Ben 10 as their own original superhero show that could use all the DC and Marvel tropes they liked and were familiar with only without the DC branch of Warner giving them any oversight and being yet another cog in the bureaucracy they had to deal with.

interesting fact on the silver surfer: during Marvel's latest universal reboot the surfer was actually outside reality and his return helped rebuild/restart the universe. in a way he is the source of the power cosmic in the current continuity though i don't think they have mentioned it since that run. Also int he old universe the power cosmic was always shown with as white or silver energy but as SIlver surfer had to give up Dawn the girl you saw him kiss in the vid he made it red and black like her dress as tribute to her.

I love Martian manhunter he's honestly my favorite dc hero. though the power cosmic is just too overpowered. aside from ultimate nullifier there probably isn't much in comics that can harm it.

Mr mxyzptlk is a being from the fifth dimension with powers I would say are similar to Toon Force. He looks like a small dwarf because apparently our third dimensional brains can't comprehend how he really looks. Normally I'd tell you to skip One Piece Live after the disaster of Cowboy Bebop and "Name a live action Disney movie" but if Oda really was involved the first episode might be worth a watch.

He is very heavily involved. In fact, Inaki Godoy (the guy playing Luffy) met Oda a while back. Oda told Inaki that he was born to play Luffy.

Not only that but apparently a decent sized chunk of the cast and crew have made an effort to both study the source material and meet with folks involved in the One Piece anime, including voice actors, to get their perspective on things. Provided thats true, One Piece Live might actually be the first live action adaptation of an anime to try to get it right.

@@Lorekeeper72 Well, I know that Emily Rudd (Nami) and Mackenyu (Zoro) were fans before they even auditioned, and Inaki Godoy (Luffy), not only met Oda, but he met Mayumi Tanaka (Japanese voice of Luffy) as well.

My favorite episodes of Death Battle are SpongeBob vs Aquaman and the Pokemon Battle Royale.

Gravity Falls where Bill Cypher comes from has only 2 seasons you can watch that before the episode comes out. You won't regret it.

I implore you to give it a watch if not for your channel then in your spare time for when the episode comes out I don't think you will regret it.

Whats funny is that, even though MMH is dang strong, a white martian such as his protégé makes him look fragile and infirm haha To explain why i say that: she was another species from their planet, one that evolved solely to be a predator of the green Martians. A single, injured, untrained, juvenile white martian is considered an even battle for a special ops battalion of green martians. They have every ability of the greens, amplified by several powers of ten, plus abilities the greens could only wish for, and lack their vulnerabilities. The green martians pushed them to extinction, with only his protégé and one other known to still exist.

is that a pyramid with arms. boy dont trash talk my bill okay. he is a master schemer. bill cypher is basically a chaos entity. but he was locked into this little camp. by a ford. and eventually he got thwarted by all the campers working together. led by a 8-10 year old? i forgot how old dipper is. but he got very close to being unleashed on the world. discord is a similar entity. but he is from the my little pony universe. and it might not seem a lot but he also got very close to winning. by taking the mane 6 powers and life? but in terms of power i think bill would topple discord. because bill was successful before coming to earth.

Yeah, I too thought that Manhunter was a Villain. My initial thoughts were that he either was Evil, but someone managed to turn him Good or he was still Evil and was waiting for the right time to initiate his "Plan", but as this Death Battle has proved, I was wrong and he's been 100% a Hero.

Okay so regarding the next death battle, I'm pretty sure everyone wants you to watch Gravity Falls so maybe you should skip that one until you've done so, i know you're concerned over copyright but hey there are several reactions to the series on KZread so as long as you do what they do, you'll probably be fine.

Frustrating battle, because the two of them ordinarily wouldn't fight, and certainly not to the death if it could be helped. Give me a reason why they're fighting, and I might be able to suggest a winner. Yes, the "why" of it is a factor, because it says something about how they'll approach the battle, which is an especially important consideration when their power sets don't really line up. I'll suggest one possible battle: Silver Surfer when he was still working for Galactus, vs J'onn trying to save earth. Silver Surfer would fight ruthlessly to incapacitate or destroy J'onn, while J'onn's goal would be to clear his mind of memories of earth.

@@JoyBoy50007 The combatants' brains are a part of the battle too; that's why it matters. What they're willing to do to win is certainly going to factor in; it'll determine how they approach the battle.

Honestly the why of the fight doesn't matter, I find it frustrating because of how large and versatile their arsenals are vs how much was actually shown on screen, thats just straight dissapointing.

If you’re gonna do a Gravity Falls or My Little Pony reaction you will need to skip.

I feel like this episode’s gonna be split in the future, between the crowds of “this fight’s boring” and “shut up you plebeians this is good writing.” I’m absolutely in the latter camp, such an intellectual route was an inspired choice. Also their promotion for One Piece miiiight be crossing the picket line of the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes? Not sure I’m gonna have to look into the details more
