@@trishafilm the Chinese are using a jigsaw like circle battle formation. In India we have battle formation that’s shaped like a target basically it has troops formed in circles that get bigger and bigger and the soldiers kept moving to the right to confuse the enemy. It was considered a hard formation to defeat due to the troops always moving it was hard to break the circle and move in. The Indian battle formation is called Chakrayuham.

I love this movie. Saw it in the original Chinese, the only way to watch it. The English version is a jumpcut of the two films smashed together. Also, "the warrior" you mention with the polearm weapon is Guan Yu, the third of the 'brothers' with Zhang Fei and Liu Bei.

Narration of this classic movie had many errors or blatant mistranslations, and even over-zealous exaggerations added in. Some significant scenes were also totally omitted. But since it is meant for a western or non-chinese speaking audience, I guess there is still some entertainment value left this in highly edited and compressed version. 😂

There are so many of these Korean, Chinese, or Japanese historic fiction films, loosely based on real events. So many seem awesome - like Red Cliff. We need more like this in the West. Larger than life figures (like William Wallace, Caesar or Augustus, Washington, Sherman, Grant, or Alexander, etc. and epic battles, and only a loose grasp of the historical record. The heroes are borderline demigods (like Achilles or Hector) and capable of feats that are laughably wild. Then again, I’m also the type of person that bitches about the inaccuracies. Not about Braveheart, tho. NEVER about braveheart. I KNOW scot’s didn’t wear Kilts then. I KNOW They didn’t wear pagan warpaint either. I don’t care. It’s magnificent. Perhaps a compromise is best: like Gladiator. With a few real people and a few fictional. And events that COULD have happened (they didn’t). Like with the film Alexander, they tried to remain true to a well known historical record bc the Greeks loved to write shit down. And when the Greeks reach their zenith, you know they wrote everything down. We didn’t get a culture as studious and meticilous with their record keeping as the Greeks for like another 1300 yrs, when Alfred the Great decided to write everything down. But his hegemony over part of a single island was not even secure, so it didn’t all remain. I think great records were kept in the Middle east but were lost when Constantinople fell along with the rest of the Byzantines.
