This is one of the best selling Rock LPs of all time. It is simply a masterpiece from the first to last song: a concept musicians today can't even fathom. I was around 11 when this came out and trust me it had a LOT of stiff competition and yet still became a top selling album. For music, the 70s were the best.

@@djknox2 Today's music is manufactured. Leaning on technology to much! There is a lack of creativity. What happened to bands! Nobody wants to stray from a formula that will produce a hit! Artists back then tried for a unique sound & style! It was about the music not making money!

It's heartbreaking listening to Stevie singing background on this (Lindsey sings lead), and Lindsey playing lead guitar on Dreams, knowing what they were going through -- and putting each other through -- while they were working on it. Each one knowing that the other's song was about them.

No better example of taking the pains of life and turning them into great art. All the members were going through break-ups before or during the creation of the Rumors album. John & Christine McVie recently divorced (and one of the songs she wrote was about her new lover). Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham has also recently split (The Chain, Second Hand News), and Mick Fleetwood had also split with his partner. Amazing not only to keep working together after and during such emotional turmoil, but to also create one of the best albums of all time from that -- one of the boldest efforts in the history of popular music.

The thing about this iteration of Fleetwood Mac is that they were a pop band, but the songs were so well-written, and the musicianship so excellent, that they couldn''t be blown off as just a pop band, so they were accessible and enjoyed by everyone. Quite a phenomenon. Earlier iterations of Fleetwood Mac were also outstanding, but with the addition of Buckingham and Nicks, it was pure magic.

"Fleetwood Mac" was formed in 1967, and released many LPs before Nicks and Buckingham became members. Before them the band was a purported "blues" band of the UK variety. Green, Walsh, and the others were long gone.

Fleetwood Mac rose to superstardom from 1975 w/ the famous line-up of: Mick Fleetwood (drums), John McVie (bass), Christine McVie (vocals and keyboards), Lindsey Buckingham (vocals and guitar) and Stevie Nicks (vocals)... They benefitted greatly from 3 talented songwriters (and singers) - Stevie Nicks, Lindsey Buckingham and Christine McVie... Buckingham also served as the band's producer. The turbulence, drama and chaotic romances between the band members created some of the best music ever. Formed in England in the 60's by Mick Fleetwood (drums), Peter Green (vocals & guitar) and John McVie (bass)... the early line-up of Fleetwood Mac collapsed a few years later after Peter Green suffered from mental disorder and left the band in 1970... He passed away in 2020 and his songwriting was celebrated by artists covering his songs - Santana made the song 'Black magic woman' a hit... Judas Priest covered 'The Green Manalishi'...Deep Purple covered 'Oh well'... etc. Christine Perfect was a keyboard player/ singer who married bassist John McVie and she changed her name to Christine McVie before joining Fleetwood Mac in 1970. The band went through various members and recorded some notable albums like 'Bare trees' (1972)... 'Penguin' (1973)... before Mick Fleetwood, John & Christine McVie moved to Los Angeles and hoped to restart Fleetwood Mac fresh. The band inquired about potential guitarists/ vocalists in L.A. and they were recommended a talented session guitarist named Lindsey Buckingham, who had recently recorded an album w/ his girlfriend Stevie Nicks as Buckingham/ Nicks... but the album had failed commercially. Lindsey was working as a touring guitarist while Stevie was cleaning houses to support them. When Fleetwood Mac offered the gig to Lindsey Buckingham, he accepted on the condition that his girlfriend Stevie Nicks join w/ him... and they agreed. Christine McVie was very happy w/ that idea because she could have space in the band w/ another woman. Years later, Lindsey admitted that he was uncertain about them joining Fleetwood Mac... but Stevie was determined and insisted that they both accept the offer. The self-titled 'Fleetwood Mac' album was the first album to be released by the famous line-up in 1975 and they knew it was special... Stevie Nicks scored the hit song 'Rhiannon'... and became the star of the band. However, the band's couples went through bitter splits by 1977 and no one would leave Fleetwood Mac... Stevie and Lindsey split up... John and Christine broke up ... Even Mick Fleetwood got divorced as the album 'Rumours' was recorded and released... The album would go on to sell over 20 million copies in the US alone... and excess came in fast on the road as drugs, alcohol, egos and infighting within Fleetwood Mac became routine... Lindsey Buckingham produced the double album 'Tusk' in 1979 but it did not sell the numbers that 'Rumours' sold. The 80's proved good for Fleetwood Mac as they released the album 'Mirage' in 1982... Stevie Nicks also started her solo career in the decade and her contributions to Fleetwood Mac's 1987 album 'Tango in the night'... were minimal (She was also abusing drugs and not in good shape)...It would be the last Fleetwood Mac album w/ that classic line-up. A frustrated Lindsey Buckingham announced that he was leaving Fleetwood Mac & would not do the tour for 'Tango in the night'... and Stevie was furious at him as a result... Fleetwood Mac toured w/ 2 new guitarists and recorded the album 'Behind the mask' in 1990... but it did not sell up to expectations. Stevie Nicks left Fleetwood Mac soon after and the band recorded 1 album 'Time' without her in 1995. It sold poorly. In 1993, Fleetwood Mac reunited to perform at US Pres. Bill Clinton's inaugural (Clinton used Fleetwood Mac's "Don't stop" at his campaign rallies) w/ Lindsey Buckingham... Finally, a reunion of the classic Fleetwood Mac in 1997 resulted in a live album 'The Dance' released that year - it sold 5x platinum in the US. However, Christine McVie announced that she was leaving the band by 1999. Fleetwood Mac recorded their last studio album 'Say you will' in 2003 w/ 4 of the 5 classic members... The band toured successfully and Christine McVie came out of retirement in 2014 to rejoin Fleetwood Mac again to tour. However, yet another clash between Stevie and Lindsey resulted in Lindsey Buckingham being fired from Fleetwood Mac in 2018... The band toured w/ 2 session guitarists into 2019. It would be likely Fleetwood Mac's final tour. In 2022, news broke that Christine McVie had passed away from cancer... Stevie Nicks honored her at her solo concerts.

This song is sung by Buckingham and it's not about rebound relationships with other women. It's about even though he's second hand news and it's over as a relationship - when times get rough she can call him for a booty call - even though he really really doesn't miss her. Very tongue in cheek.

Peter Green, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood were all in John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, and it was Mayall who suggested Green made a solo album. He began using the Bluesbreakers rhythm section but then added two more guitars, Jeremy Spencer and Danny Kirwen. When someone asked what he would call the band, he said Fleetwood Mac (because Mick and John would need the band longer than him); the first album, however, was released as Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac. The original were one of the best of the British Blues Bands of the sixties, but all 3 original guitarists left within a few years of each other. The band moved to the USA and built a new band around Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, which became far more successful than the original

Excellent summary, just missing the fact that the band went through a number of line-up and musical changes, releasing albums, before settling on the Anglo-American lineup. The original band had many hits and huge numbers of fans, it should be remembered. Many performances (often in black and white) can be heard and sometimes seen on KZread .

The band has 3 lead singers and 3 composers. They blend well with each other's works in a fantastic synergy. For two poignant insights into the band members turning pain and suffering into their own therapy with the result being incredible music, watch these two from "The Dance" concert which was filmed and recorded for a DVD: kzread.info/dash/bejne/iWp7l8dvZbzKp6Q.html ( Fleetwood Mac - The Dance - 1997 - Go Your Own Way) Lindsey writes about Stevie stepping out on him. Ah but then Stevie comes back with her side of the story in the next one, which is a deeply emotional and visceral performance: kzread.info/dash/bejne/l3iry49xnpObZNY.html ( Fleetwood Mac - Silver Springs (Official Live Video) [HD] )

Rounding out the band responsible for this album is Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie and John McVie who are all British. The original members who formed the band were British. Just had to set straight the collaboration of both great countries.

Their album Rumors is one of the best selling of all time and has nothing but hit after hit after hit on it. Now that you finally FOUND the rabbit hole, I hope you have stamina because it's an incredibly deep hole to explore. They originally formed in the late 60s and were still performing to sold out crowds until the death of pianist/lyricist and songwriter Christine McVie. They were never a great Blues band... They were an English Blues band during the Peter Green years. Do they have some great songs, yes. But they had great songs in the Bob Welsh years as well. But they didn't make any money until Stevie and Lindsay joined. Which to me we're also great years. They have their own thing. It's really a matter of opinion. I have followed them since the beginning. But to me there are no great blues bands outside of the USA. There are a lot of bands that were blues-based from England that were great, but they all had to take something from the American blues bands to make them great.
