Viper. You've been changing in one major aspect. Previously, you'd ALWAYS play the long game. now, not so much. Oftentimes you're overextending yourself at one point or another in your offensives, which grind you down... something you used to inflict on others.

the sportmanship and friendship of the AoE pro scene is something else , you guys are legends.

Viper is OUR GOAT and that’s all that matters, kinda cool to see how DauT pushed Viper to be the best and now Viper has pushed Hera to be the best!

The viper is the most versatile. He won mixed maps, kotd, death match, MoS, MoA, wandering warriors. Hera has yet to replicate that, so truly speaks to Viper's greatness. Hera also improved significantly when hera opted for viper's style

Masters of Arena and Death Match world cup stand out as the furthest apart from Arabia and Arabia-like maps. It's the most impresive, because it takes so much time to master these unusual settings.

@@theodentherenewed4785 Did mastering Arena really take that much time for viper? If I remember correctly, the whole "clown" meme comes from the fact that non-arena players like Viper himself absolutely crushed Arena players in a big tournament back in the days.

It's not just a year of dominance but the quality of the player. The people viper used to dominate are no longer at the top (Riut, Daut, Dogao and so on) only Yo seems to remain competitive at the very top. Hera, liereyy gained experience that they lacked to overtake viper. So if the current crop had matured 8 years back, he wouldn't be so dominant.

​@@abdalucchash5717lmao, the only reason Hera and Lierry beat Viper is because of Viper's problems with his wrist. The last tournament he played without issues was Hidden Cup 3 and I don't have to remind you how godly that performance was. And even after that he has won many tournaments, no one apart from him would have been able to cope with that wrist problem.

And one could also say that the current crop matured because of The Viper. Quick walls, Macro, and micro.Viper had it mastered. The fact remains Viper Dominated.

The Viper is the Michael Jordan of Aoe 2. There were many greats before him and the talent is at an all time high now but Viper was the Goat during the biggest boom of AOE, the rise of twitch creators, and youtube content. It parallels MJ's rise during the advent of televised basketball. It was the perfect storm. Pure dominance when there was the greatest opportunity to turn it into a spectacle. GGs viper. It has been an absolute pleasure to watch you over the years and hope I get to continue to watch you.

He was good enough to get special thanks in official AoE 2 guides and manuals back in the early 2000s and keep receiving that credit in future dlc releases

If Viper delivers up to a certain level (at least quartelfinals in most tournaments) I will watch him forever. He's too much of a nice and funny guy that I don't really care about him being the best in the game or not

I absolutely LOVE the fact that Viper is just having a good time with this and honest. I believe whole heartedly the fact hes not winning every match like there is no contest is ruddy good for the game. Please continue to "suck" for a while, then you can win every match again Viper.

Man, I don't care what happens in the future. Viper, i have a huge amount of respect for you as a player and a person. As far as i am concerned, you will always be the GOAT. You kept this game alive through its quietest time and honestly revived it and brought it back into the lime light. I think its fair to say that all of us AoE fans owe you a debt sir. The fact that i not only still occasionally play this game, a game i first played when i was 4 years old, but get to watch pro level tournaments, is a real treat. Thank you sir!

I think Microsoft should consider adding an easter egg or two to the game in recognition of what folks like Viper, T90 and Hera have done for the game.

I was deployed to Honduras in a hooch with rain pouring down with headphones on, all alone just elated for you whenever you won that RBW3 tournament. The Teutons pick in the last game was so hype, and the way you systematically broke Larry down, your ability to strategize, plan ahead, and adapt is so impressive as someone who has watched the game for so long. Sometimes i feel bad for your opponent because you leave no holes for them to exploit, it's like the match is over before it even begins.

My man you are a legend. I discovered you because of T90's commentary and tbh you are beast. It doesn't matter if you do not win everything, you are still great guy and tbh I even started to watch some of your videos because it is super interresting to see how your mind works. I wish you at least 10 more years in AoE II and let it give you joy and money you well deserve.

Liereyy was such a sick player and an amazing talent looking at how much less time he spent with the game compared to Viper or especially Hera in recent years. Kind of a sad story though, how incredibly often he appeared in the Finals of S-Tier tournaments and did not take them: Kotd 1, Kotd2, NAC1, NAC4, Grand Melee, RBW3, RBW5, RBW6 are the ones coming to mind. (He also has quite some S -Tier tournament wins, but still...) Also when he lost, he lost with a lot of class when you look at his reaction after the gg against Viper in RBW5. I wish he would be able to put in more energy and maybe break Heras dominance.

I wouldn't say that being the GOAT is simply how many tournaments you've won. It's also what kind of a person you are. And you, Dear Sir Mr. TheViper, are the most umböl of them all. It takes a lot to be at the top and stay like that, and that's what i personally still have to see from Hera. Otherwise, he's just another random player who made it to the top. Which is also a very huge achievement, but it won't just make you the GOAT.

As a pro desk-jockey, who's had RSI if you want to fix your wrist: Deadlift. Trust me. It'll take 3-6 months, but you'll find it's so, so much better. No idea why it works given it's a static hold from your wrist's point of view, but it does.

The Viper is definitely the greatest player in AOE overall, for the sole reason that he invented very important actions that everyone else adopted, such as quickwalling, shooting the boar with the TC and multiple boar luring among other little things (correct me if I'm wrong).

as a long time viper fan, i was secretly rooting against you. because i love your content, personality, and strategies. but its hard to root for a 99-1 over dog. i wanted someone to be able to beat you so i could suspensfully root for you, so i could eagerly wait for your next game and tourney story. and not just fill out every tournament bracket the same way each time and now i can and have never been more excited for your next tournament where youre gonna get the win youve fostered a great sense of competition and respect for your opponents and its awesome to see the scene grow. youll always be the goat to me for growing the game we all love

i think there's room for everyone in the goat throne, people deserve the title for different reasons. and the thing is, once you're goated, your title can't be removed, it's just other people also reach the point where their gameplay is remarkable, and deserve to be celebrated. that can only be good for aoe, hera does well? that's good him and for viper. more competition, motivation. more banter. it's healty

You have an insanely strong personality that you watch this, what must be an emotional and confronting video, without getting defensive or jealous. I'm sure this is also a strategic move, to create content, but regardless it shows the healthy competition at the top. There's not a lot of toxicity among top players and everyone contributes to a great atmosphere but I believe that the composed, friendly, respectful attitude of TheViper has especially shaped how the top community interacts. And sure, in time other top players will continue but they have a great legacy to live up to.

There is something to be said about how all the high level elite players came out the gate learning and evolving the game to its max. Viper was first out the gate and it took everyone years to catch up. There’s a certain genius quality to that firstness. Pioneering the meta.

I definitely think there's some good historical videos waiting to be made for AoE2. I'm only of those "2010 onwards" people, coming in sometime around War is Coming, but I've never been involved in the community, only following it, so I think I'll have to leave it to others with better memories and more involvement. Perhaps it's a little too niche, but I'd love more obscure details, especially from the pre-2010 era (although footage and recs will be harder to find and players harder to contact). Viper winning all tournaments isn't why I root him. It's the attitude and the sportsmanship, not to mention we share a last name so it's hard not to.

If Viper retired from AOE and went to full time reaction videos, he would still be more successful than 99% of the haters.

Viper's dominance of the game along with zero empires and t90 got me hooked on this beautiful game once more!

I remember watching on voobly that huns x goths game where Hera said he would quit aoe if he lost. After seeing Viper win that game, I was convinced his level would never be touched. A few days later, I was playing and randomized that very same map generation 😂 I barely play nowadays but I'll never forget the great memories of the aoe2 community. That little clip of KOTD1 reminded me that I did the graphical mod for that tourney. I remember being a huge Viper fan and still loving to see him loose to Mr.Yo on redbull, because he was just so incredibly dominant at that time...

Just watching your records on TheViper Liquidpedia page shows that he was ABSOLUTELY thrashing everyone for 8 straight years. There really was no competition, and while it was a great time for TheViper, there was already a need for some serious new contenders. Even if he never gets back to his golden years, it is safe to say that TheViper has the crown for greatest of all time.

23:00 - To be fair, I would argue that most people around now were brought on becuase of Twitch and the like. eSports and whatnot was not nearly as prolific until Internet and matchmaking advanced. Before 2010ish, communities were largely based on forums imo.

I think Hera is definitely the best player right now. He’s had a hell of a year. But even he admits that he’s not the Goat. In my opinion he can be considered a solid choice for the Goat if he keeps up this level of dominance for like 4-5 more years. In any case, I’m happy that we have this amazing competition. I feel like the pro scene wouldn’t be as exciting without the healthy rivalry that Hera and Viper have 😊

Since, GOAT means Greatest Of All Time, Viper is still the GOAT. I think for someone else to be considered GOAT they need to win and dominate the competition for similar amount of time that Viper did. Its not impossible for someone to do that, but its difficult. I remember for a couple of years when Viper was dominating, if you bet against Viper you'd be a fool. But right now, while there is a favorite (Hera), there is still more than 20%(guesstimate) chance that someone else (Viper, Tatoh, Lierreyy or Yo) could win. Viper also dominated different formats (for example: DM, Arena) and most team game tournaments in that period.

Viper is playing much better lately, its just that other players have improved too.

As with any other sport you can't really compare players across eras. You can't discount people that played in previous eras because you think the competition level has increased. Of course the game has changed. The competition has increased because players like Viper brought the game to a new level. To be the GOAT you have to have longevity. Hera has to dominate for several more years to even enter the GOAT conversation.

I don’t think anyone delivers both social interaction and raw gameplay talent to the same level as Viper. Some guys have great KZread and Twitch channels and some are purely hardcore gamers but no one does both quite like Viper.

Even though Hera is my favourite player (dunno why, guess I resonate with him more), it does not stop me from noticing how immature Hera may act (being salty, BM outpost rush or being too emotional in a negative way), which I never saw from you, Viper. As much as he will hate it, I think Viper is like Liverpool FC, pure dominance for years, till new challengers arise in after the release of DE (Prem League), and he is eclipsed for a while, but then he is back with a bang, and challenging for the top spots once more, but the competition is really crowded. Can't wait to see what the future has in store for him!

I love all you folks in the top ranks, but we all need to get better. The other 75,000 of us, I mean, it would be fine to see more shakeups in the top 100 or 1000 more compition for the qualifiers. A Hera game with Viper is alway great to watch, I don't care who wins.

Hera needs to maintain this for 2 more years. I genuinely think he can overtake viper, if he continues this trend. Tbh, the quality is much much more in the last 3 years than the pre 2020s. Viper isn't far from his peak, wrist issues to be mitigated. But Hera is still sweeping viper in the last year. Tatoh is getting good wins. If Hera, liereyy and tatoh had matured 8 years back, viper wouldn't be so competitive. His competition except for Yo isn't in 10 anymore, (Chris, Riut, Dogao, Jordan, etc)

AOE 2 community is basically a bunch of nice guys and Hera.

To me, quickwalling and winning tournaments aren’t the main reasons why I watch TheViper, sure the skill level matters a lot but it wouldn’t be enough if it weren’t for the creativity, humor and wholesome demeanor that TheViper consistently delivers. Much love.
