Reminds me of my dad. Although he spent his life in Michigan he would go down to Kentucky every year to fish for catfish. He was well into his 80’s and still making the solo trip to fish the big rivers. He would bring home huge amounts of catfish, but I don’t believe he ever kept one over 18”. He swore the little ones tasted the best.

Try soaking your bait (rag, sponge, etc.) in straight canola oil. Let the bait (rag, sponge, etc.) soak overnight. I use 1" wide strips by 3" long of $1 store sponges. TIP: Red sponge seems to work best, mimics the color of blood I guess and with the oil scent, it's crazy but works. Had skipjack cut bait sitting not more than 5 feet from the canola soaked sponge, every single bite was on the canola oil sponge.

I agree. I catch the monsters for fun, but one-two footers taste the best.

Finding your channel is what I needed. I was struggling with my 8ft cast net but after learning the 50/50 method it seems like I cant mess it up!!!

Please help me understand something… I am new to fishing… Why did you throw the big fish back into the water and tag it???

Big giant fish are just sometimes not worth the effort, they are large and old and sometimes can pass on the genes to create other larger fish, my guess is the man didnt want to make a trophey out of the catfish and didnt have a ton of people to help him eat it, so he tagged it so the state could collect data on it, hope this helped

Do you still move after 15/20 mins even if they’re biting? Should my bait drag on the bottom or mid water for catfish?

Not trying to answer for him but typically if they are bitting you fish until they stop then move, if you get multiple bites after you catch a fish in that spot it's a good indicator the fish are gonna be active for a while
