My instructor said there’s no shame in walking away or even running. Try to talk person down and try to leave. But if the other person was not going to allow you to leave, then choose YOUR time to strike, do it hard and fast, and get off the X (get away).

Love that comment Nick... "... You could slip." I got into a confrontation where the guy was on my car window before I could get out. Eventually I pushed him back so I could get out of my car, but when I stepped out, I lost my balance and he slammed the car door on me. After a couple of shots he went to the other side of the car to go after my GF. I got up, ran towards him and there was loose sand/gravel and I completely wiped out. I got up, but by that time he was heading back to his vehicle. You can be "ANY" level of fighter, but one slip, etc and you lose. Lesson... DE-escalate if you can. If you can't, then try and look at your surroundings and your ground as fast as possible.

@@NickDrossos you’re welcome you’re one of my favorites. I haven’t seen you for a while on KZread, but you make very good points because I experience stuff like that before and I’m not even doing security. They really truly don’t look at that. They think it one little thing like a technique or so or so far really wins a fight, but really it’s not it’s you, because you either go to fly ,fight ,or freeze is this the depending on your psychological thinking and your mood because the moment something happens, it can trigger you proceed in your psychological thinking and it doesn’t matter how skill are you could either be afraid but depending on that moment, you can react to the situation or you could be very confident and know what you’re doing, but then you could freeze and not respond to this situation that really happened and thank you for touching it into the video because That hits right there because not too many self-defense videos really explained that

Hi Nick I teach very similar self defence to you and I still do say Awareness is number one priority. But I do have another? Because we all can be court off guard. I now, when ask what is the one thing you can show me on how to protect yourself. I say You only need to know two things, deception and distract and tell them how to use them

Bro, you got sucker punched probably bcs you broke two basic self defense rules. 1. Movement is King. 2. You are either fighting or you are leaving. Don't talk and get into escalations and all of that crap. Having said that, people like to talk about techniques all the time as if they are the most important thing in self defense but in fact all techniques are downstream of SITUATIONS. And self defense is like anything else in that the basic situations that we face mostly occur commonly. We see them in video clips again and again. For example, guys who get caught inside the door of a car. 99 out of 100 times this guy will get fvcked bcs in that situation you can't move or produce power. Never stand in your car door or anyplace where traffic is passing by. Or what I call "walk ups" where someone will make a bee-line for you - this is common in road rage situations. We have to recognize tha we are about to be attacked and move off his line. Don't just stand there wondering, "what is this guy up to?" Or "walk backs", where someone will break off the escalation as if he is leaving, but in fact he is just going to circle around behind and sucker punch you. Or any situation where you are being encircled. You either have to fight or leave. Anyway, there are plenty of common situations. Recognizing them and having some general rules for dealing with them is very important. The most important rule is "always be moving". Like your content. Cheers.

Guys who constantly test every guy by staring each of them down are usually the same guys who never have any fun at the club/bar and are NEVER near any pretty girls. It has no benefits and I loved how Nick stated that it voluntarily locks you into tunnel vision keeping you unaware of your surroundings, such as multiple attackers. It’s so stupid and immature. Only dumb guys do this.
