    Wild oats, a fascinating plant but a god awful weed! Left uncontrolled they can smother a cereal crop out. A botanist from a famous Agricultural chemical company used to refer to them as "Avena fatua sanguinensis" (Bloody wild oat). I used to entertain children by picking a few seeds off a plant, lick the awns then put them on my hand. Oh the looks of astonishment I used to get when they started to 'walk '😮

  • @lorenexus4917

    @lorenexus4917

    You just totally missed the point. The point being you have to search on the ground for those seeds. Even if they ain't sprinting you have to look around, see where the moved even if, it is a foot, or two. Then you have to wonder if you got all of them, and look in cracks, and such to see if you miss any. David Clearly states why bother doing any wondering, and just work with resources that are much easier to manage.

    @@lorenexus4917 yeah coz picking up seeds off the ground is so much easier than picking them up off the ground 2 feet away, probably right near another plant. They probably used selective breeding to get seeds that had put more energy into the seed itself instead of its "legs". It's not because they were sick of chasing them around the farmyard.

    Sometimes I think trees & plants "use" humans & animals to propagate. I made this wonderful fruit... take it. And we're their instruments, spreading their species wherever we go. "Life" is weird. Would you say trees or plants can be classified as "intelligent life forms"?
