These Scottish Islands Will PAY YOU £50,000 To Live There!
These Scottish Islands will pay you £50,000 to move there! The Scottish Islands Bond scheme is offering individuals and families up to £50,000 to relocate to or stay in a number of Scottish Islands in an attempt to stem population decline in the island communities.
If you like the idea of moving to some remote scottish islands, and being compensated to do so, this video is for you - whether you are interesting in more remote off-grid living or homesteading, or joining a town with a few more people.

The closing date on october 2021 was not the closing date to apply, it was the closing date to respond to the survey. BUT, this "Islands Bond" project is not longer available anyway. I called them and it's written on the gov website : "We recognise that there will be some disappointment that Islands Bonds will not be offered, but working to develop a more integrated and collaborative approach to supporting sustainable populations will facilitate greater opportunities for those looking to remain in, or move to our island communities." www.gov.scot/publications/islands-bond-consultation-scottish-government-response/

Nobody can become financially successful over night. They put in background work but we tend to see the finished part. Fear is a dangerous component, hindering us from taking bold steps we need in other to reach our goals.
As of August 2022, Scotland abandoned the Island Bond program due to strong opposition from local residents. Oh well.
Been on Holiday to Mull and was blown away by how stunningly beautiful it is. I've never felt more comfortable in my life as that I did on Mull. Its somewhere I feel I'm meant to be.
If only I had been forty years younger. I would have jumped at the chance back then if I had known about it. To have made a complete break away from my control freak of a dad and brother. As for what I would have done for a living. Possible landscape artist. As well as being a small farmer.

Where was this 50 years ago when I was young? I'd have something run down as I can do plastering, dry stone walling and bricklaying, electrical, plumbing and put a new roof on the house extension. I'd even have gone to the Falkland Islands.
My family are from skye - my grandfather grew up there walking to school with no shoes, and the family moved to Manchester after falling out with the ferry boatman. I've been considering a return.
Strange how people weren’t given notice of this info before 2021 quite a significant date, yet info was withheld!?

This would be about 55K in American dollars. Not a whole lot when considering moving costs, building a place or having to fix one up (more expensive on an island), length of time to search for another job, etc etc. And what about the internet? I hope the people who sign up for this are able to make it happen

@Ralph Reilly Well that's a very disparaging view of the people of Arran. @@beautyandthebudget3642 Good point. I think what the person meant was that, depending on how far North you are, during mid-summer the days can be up to 19 hours long for example, in Lerwick town on Shetland Islands, Scotland. As a comparison, Fairbanks in central Alaska USA, is further North so during mid-Summer day is 22 hours with just 2 hours of "night". (Obviously things are reversed in Winter. So one gets a 2 hour day and 22 hour night, in mid-winter in Fairbanks Alaska say.). Solar Panels, slanted at approx the correct angle, can still generate electricity during some cloudy weather, and during snowy weather especially when the Sky is clear and blue. Their efficiency increases with cold, as long as they have light falling on them. Scottish Island dwellers often use wind generators as they can expect power from them about 60% of the time, day and night, Winter and Summer.. With advances in more affordable Solar and Wind generators, folks who can afford to install such infrastructure straight off, can have a comfortable life even on remote islands. One wind generator will supply some heating and extra Winter lighting to even a large "family sized" greenhouse for example.

The response sets out the decision that was taken as a result of the consultation and in person workshop feedback. The key findings from the analysis of the consultation suggested that island communities do not support the proposed Islands Bond and as a direct result of that feedback, the scheme will not be taken forward.
Thank you for sharing this video very intresting
This money would be better put into housing to enable young people to stay or return to these places. Having been forced off the housing market by the sheer amount of holiday homes, rather than encouraging more incomers (the actual cause of the issue) plenty of people wish to stay in the areas of their birth, I myself would love to move home and be around aging family but it’s unlikely to be an option

Nothing to do with hostility. There was a public consultation and it was decided that money would be better spent retaining young people on the islands (preventing further outmigration).
