Incorporating Lidar technology with your work will definitely make it easier in finding landmines especially those that are hidden in thick vegetations. It will be of great help for our defenders in Ukraine in mapping up minefields especially now that they are on their counter offensive. Good luck and more power to you guys! 🙂🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦

LiDAR is only useful at the macro level, and only for large items. Magnetometry or EM is required to locate individual UXO or landmines.

Not quite, this is not a breakthrough in a fundamental science that can be detrimental to crafting models. Magnetometers are already invented, AI is already invented. Just putting already invented technologies in a new use case is not worthy a Nobel prize. Something that is, for example, when Nuclear Fusion reactors get up and running to produce viable power.

There are children that lost their hands, eyes, legs even their life. It's really so sad, but still there's hope to save the remaining if we get something like this.

@@miroslawkaras7710 I agree. Ground penetrating radar is a proven application in the detection of anti-tank and anti-personnel mines located 5 - 15 cm underground. By installing GPR equipment on the drone, mines can be detected fast and autonomously using seismic waves, saving lives in the mine-ridden areas.

These guys are doing a tremendous job! Risk reduction is priority #1 in cleaning and later clearing minefields. Adequate surveys with drones is a very important improvement of extinguishing active Mines. Local surveying fixed points will do nicely - No need for GPS. 2 Fixed points in the Cleared (=SAFE) zone and only 1 fixed point in the Uncleared (=UNSAFE) zone. Placing this last fixed point is VERY DANGEROUS. After the surveys, AT mines should be detonated by multiple drones dropping RGD-5 hand grenades. Drones dropping small cluster capsules will reduce the amount of AP mines. Now a second drone survey will be needed to locate the remaining mines. Depending on the Second Survey sappers could be allowed in the minefield to clear it. Too many remaining mines? > New drone attacks on mines ! Pls. notice that Drone-detonating AT mines clears the way for Flail-tanks (tractors). AT mines wear out flails, AP mines are no match to them.

1:35 - They're using COCO pre-trained weights. I didn't know that dataset has land mines. Wouldn't it be better to make their own custom dataset of landmines? Also consider getting data of a land that is similar to rasputitsa, imagine Ukrainians saying that the drone doesn't give good results of a muddy soggy land.

It depends on the situation. If the people inside the container are still alive a temperature difference might be detectable. Africans attempting to travel inside a container into EU have given up. Due to an incredible high death ratio (suffocation).

This is nothing new, ground penetrating radar technology has been mounted on helicopters to discover mines dug as deep as 10 metres, and I think Ford did something 10 years ago with a drone and ground penetrating radar as well, but the problem is these are COSTLY and time consuming technologies to implement, ground penetrating radar is also quite big and consumes a lot of power in fact the more juice you give it, the better it is at detecting. So its very impressive to see others trying cheaper methods of detection, but it appears they are not detecting mines that are dug very deeply, and that could be a huge limitation.

sad to say but Land mines are useful prevent invasions, If Ukraine had put enough land mines in the first place there would not have been a Russian invasion. Eventually that is what they will do just like the Russians who are working hard to make a future frontier out of the current frontline... if there is an efficient way to remove land mines, it will be more easy for the strong thug nations (eg Russia) to invade the weaker nations. Right now one thing is sure, those young guys are not alone to work on demining tools.
