Notice that while turning "BABA is YOU" into "BABA is [x]" renders you powerless, turning it into "[x] is YOU" doesn't. YOU are the active player, not BABA... It just turns out that, most of the time, BABA is YOU.

The game while first introducing things the way we expect them to work. Constantly afterwards wants you to abandon your preconceptions about how you think they work and instead think how they should work to win each level. It really taxes your mind to rethink every level what each object should be. Fun and tiring.

I like how he reads "Key is open", pushes the key, reads "key is push", then double checks that he can push the key.

That misconception seems more common than I originally thought. I heard somewhere that originally it was going to be "death" instead "defeat", but it was changed to sound less harsh. Whether that's true or not, I don't know. Regardless, all you need to know is that if something has that parameter, it's bad for whatever "you" are in the level.

@@sussybrudda7967 Actually, that's a rule in a later level; "Baba is defeat". You're something else, but if you try to become Baba, you die. So for that level, you _can't_ be Baba.

This game is super literal. When it says Baba is you, it means literally sprites that are Baba is You. When you say Baba is Rock, Baba sprites become rock sprites, they are no longer Baba and therefore Baba is you (but there is only rock). Shut and Open are basically words that mean that whenever an object that is shut meets an object that is open, both are destroyed.

Also, Open objects are allowed to enter Shut objects, despite the Shut object being Stop.

I love watching you play this because most levels have more than once way to solve them & half the time your solution is different than mine.

It would be computer science if one time, BABA IS YOU didn't make Baba you, and the game made you go through all of the levels over again looking for the reason that BABA IS YOU didn't work this time, but you can't find the reason so you take a break, come back, question your life, go through all of the levels again and find out that there's an IS in one of the levels that's actually lS, and even though there's no way this could possibly have any effect on the current level, you fix it anyway, and everything works now, and you go in a closet and cry.

a very cool game, still on my wishlist, because for almost every game I buy, I wait until its at least 50% discounted^^ (I have a big enough backlog of items, so its no problem to wait)

I don't think this particular game will ever be 50% discounted. It is already relatively cheap, it's actively maintained by a very small team and they devote 10% of the revenue of the game to charity (as it says on the title screen). I had this game on my wishlist for a very long time and I don't believe I've ever seen it discounted in a steam sale. That said, I do suggest you don't buy this game because it will definitely cause you headaches ;)

This is exactly the same as me in coding class. I don't understand how I did it but I did. Or I just can't get it and then I wonder why I need this class for graphic design😂

you solve this game, by solving the puzzles in reverse, because they where all designed "in reverse"

I cannot wait to watch Matt try and tackle some of the later (FAR MORE ABSTRACT) levels of this game.

I'm going to take this as an opportunity to continue explaining some of the rules in this game. Individual nouns are not going to be explained; every non-special noun behaves in the exact same way. Everything below is a Property unless explicitly stated otherwise. OPEN and SHUT - If an object that is OPEN occupies the same tile as an object that is SHUT, both are destroyed. This includes itself. [Colour] - Changes the object's colour to match. FLOAT - If an object is FLOAT, it will not be affected by an object that is OPEN, SHUT, SINK, HOT, DEFEAT, WIN, unless it is also FLOAT, and vice versa.

This is fantastic, I definitely want to see more

There's no point in doing that. You can't win with the flag if it's push or stop, because both stop you from overlapping with the flag. Also, you can't turn the flag into anything else, as he demonstrated (7:42-7:52), because of "flag is flag" and it's behind a wall which can't be moved (due to "wall is stop", which is down in the corner, thus this can't be altered either), so this can't be altered.

Reminds me a lot of programming PLCs where you basically drag and drop logic functions into place like this, and on industrial automation, there is always the possibility of instant death if you choose wrong!

The key to this game is to let go of the properties of objects we know. It's actually very logical - there are objects like Baba, rock, key and so on. Then there's connectors like "is" for example. And finally, the third block type gives the objects properties. Whenever you encounter a new block if it's an object you don't care because it doesn't matter what object you have in this game but if it's one of the other two your goal is to figure out exactly what it does so for example SHUT means that this object can be erased with another object that has the OPEN property (erasing it in the process as well), PUSH gives the object collision and makes it pushable, YOU means the player can control the object and so on and so forth.

"I don't know how or why I finished this level" Well for the ad revenue mostly if I have to guess :)

Probably one of, if not my favorite game you play through!

I love the title. You don't need to buy a puzzle game to make engineers look stupid; it's actually a fairly trivial task. If you want to make an engineer look stupid, just take any mathematical concept he talks about all the time and ask him for its definition, or take any theorem he can't stop mentioning every time he opens his mouth and ask him for its mathematical proof.

Hey RCE, just thikning you might like The Swapper - another cool and atmospheric puzzle game, a bit old, but I loved it. And thank you for showing us some really nice games. :) I haven't been playing for quite a while, but you made me remember the joy of it, so it's the second game I'm buying (and actually playing, which is not always the case, lol) since I've started following you a couple of month ago. The first choice was inspired by Timberborneeers! :D

I totally love how there's like 3+ possible solutions on most of these levels.

In case it helps, pushing open into shut destroys both. beither applies to specifically a key or a door. which is why you were able to make wall shut then use star (which was open) to destroy it notably, both are destroyed. so you could technically push shut into open for the same effect

“Rock is Rock” Gives “The floor is made of floor” vibes

The only game where it somehow makes no sense and sense to say “Oh so I can’t win? Shut up I’m a wall now.”

Just when I think I’m understanding this game I loose it again. Baba is you is confused…

There's a problem with your "solution": True as that may be, you can't touch the flag to win unless you break the "flag is stop" and "flag is push" parameters. Both of these stop you from interacting with the flag to win. Also, you can't make "Baba Is Win", due to it being stuck against the wall, you also can't turn the flag into a jelly because of "Flag Is Flag" and it's stuck behind a wall.

I'm seeing a lot of the same type of comments, but I'd like to address one of them: Jelly Throne (level 11): "flag is jelly" does not work due to "flag is flag". See 7:42-7:52.

Idk how you have so much trouble, it's all about variable definition. Items defined as you can be controlled. You win when one item defined as you intersects an item defined as win. You lose when no item defined as you exists. Most other words define various cases where objects stop existing or how they can/can't be moved. It's about determining what functions you have and how they can move/delete items so that you can intersect win.

Yay essentially any item that is named baba is you so you could be like the Brooklyn bridge

"Think like excel, like the if formula' The if-then-else you just described half of all coding structure. the other half is loops. (While, for, untill, ect)

Yes RCE, the difficulty is all over the place, but you don’t need to complete all the levels in an area to progress. Tho with that said, it is hard to not do all the levels.

It's actually super easy, barely an inconvinience - You just try and then you give up when your brain is melted.

I've gotten quite far in this game, never beat it. Stuck at the parts where the over-world becomes a level. Anyway I would love to watch you beat this game.
