    Zipper puzzle is binary. 32 = 2^5 combinations. Since the puzzle was for christmas 2018, we write 18 in binary = 10010, which is the combination in the end.

    There used to be A, B, C and D cells. When a smaller battery was introduced, it was consequently called AA. And AAA is even smaller. These days, only AAA, AA and D cells are common, but the other sizes still exist.

    Yep, all of the examples you gave put out around 1.5V but have different current capacities. 9V batteries are actually made of 6 smaller cells put into series (series circuit adds voltages while parallel circuits increase potential current and generally extend the life of the batteries).

    Always love the puzzle solving vids. You’re a genius at it. Just one term correction. You referred to the lack of space between the “stash box” and the clock body as “variances”. Being an engineer, we refer to this as “tolerances.” Something built to extreme tolerances means there’s absolutely no “wiggle room” between the moving parts. That box was beautifully made and probably within 20,000 thousandths of an inch of tolerance. Very hard to achieve and maintain with wood. Watch different humidity levels change the tolerance on that stash box. Great video as always and sorry for the nomenclature correction. Peace and aloha to you and yours. 🤙🏼

    5:08 because in paper formats (..., A3, A4, A5, ...) the size also gets smaller with upping the number. And *that* is because all paper A-sizes are derived from the A1, which is exactly 1 square meter in size.

  • @RavenGlenn

    @RavenGlenn

    What does that have to do with batteries? I could also say that wire diameter is smaller the higher then number. But that is just as much nonsense. The truth is that batteries were initially labeled with a single letter based on size. A was the smallest and worked their way up in size with each letter. Then as technology improved they needed smaller batteries and those letters became general sizes that are divided up by how many letters there are.

    battery names were originally given standardised technical names to identify the dimensions of the cell, running from A to J in 1924. As batteries had only gotten larger previously to produce more juice for larger or hungrier portable devices, there was nothing 'smaller' than A. Thus, AA was designated. By 1959, AAA was added to the list of specifications. 😂👍

    Answering your question, AAA and AA batteries come later than A batteries. In past times we ha A (for small) B for mediun, C vor Large and D for Extra large batteries. Since AA and AAA come later and are smallest than A, people simple uses the A as a multiple of how small a battery is.
