He's not even outclassed in quite a few ways. Its triple axel hits harder than even chien-pao icicle crash thanks to the better base damage, and chien-pao don't have knock off so no item removal.

Okay but like... Saying Chien Pao is better Waleavile is like saying Kyogre is a better Politoed. They are legendaries, of course they're powerful!

Not really. The difference with Kyogre and Politoed (Pelipper would honestly be a better example here because it's currently got more usage than Kyogre in VGC despite being "weaker"), using Kyogre takes up a restricted slot, meaning non restricted rain setters are still viable in order to save you a restricted slot. Weavile might be free to do what it wants for the first year or less of a gen but as soon as Chien Pao arrives it's over

Doesn't chien-pao also lack triple axel and knock off unlike weavile? It has to do with the weaker icicle crash and the non item removing crunch.

@@slashine1071 yeah but Chien-Pao also gets Sacred Sword and the damage increase for Weavile with Triple Axel is pretty minimal, and of course it has the chance to miss at any time unlike Ice Spinner. Most people aren't running Chien-Pao just to be running a souped up Weavile, they're running it because Sword of Ruin is crazy, and Weavile doesn't give you anything as crazy as that to make up for the lower speed

I pretty much made an esssy on this refereing to it as the overlap issue. What is more is that Conkeldurr for years trivialized Machamp.

Still won't stop me from using them because I love them.

Saying they’re outclassed doesn’t mean don’t use them lol (at least in competitive singles). Like Persian is fully outclassed by Tauros but it still is used. Bisharp and pawniard are outclassed by their evo, but are still monsters in different tiers

Me who despised conk in gen 8 vgc and is happy to see him outclassed by a robot and a bear

I have a power crept Pokemon idea of my own. Iron Fist Golurk. Golurk used to be the bane of existance for things that try to wall with slow speed. He got the elemental punches, Shadow Punch, Focus Punch, stab EQ, and was an amazing spinblock while also packing Stealth Rocks. Then gen 9 came and the freaking Ape had to ruin him. Annihilape is several times faster, honestly bulkier, a nearly unstoppable stab combo in Fighting Ghost, Final Gambit shenanigans, Defiant as an ability, and probably the most powerful Ghost move outside of Last Respects in Rage Fist. Everything Golurk blocked was devastated by Annihilape. Now the only reason to use Golurk is if Annihilape gets restricted. This was the last chance Golurk had as every gen since gen 5 introduced some new Ghost that changed the game. Trevenant in 6, Pallosand in 7, Runerigus in 8, Basculegion in Hisui, and now Annihilape in 9.

For Weavile. It's definitely outclassed in doubles by a long shot. But in singles, Chiep Pao is banned so Weavile still gets to thrive in OU. Also sneasel now as a whole NEW evolution that's even more broken than chien pao. Thanks to Triple Axel Weavile does technically out-damage Chien Pao specifically with ice stab but is weaker with all other attacking moves.

You say that many other pokemon -(favorite is shown)- outclass it. I assume that means that they use the move better than weavile can? Sad to see it get demolished over the years.

In weaviles defense it has a way better moveset than chien-pao It has knock off, and triple axel

That’s not really power creep pellipper used to be one of the only good water/flying types and got power crept out the meta so they made it a rain setter to combat that

Conkeldurr also has access to Mach Punch and Wide Guard, but I feel you.

Conkeldurr was outclassed by Hariyama in VGC in the Sun and Moon era before Iron hands came along. Hariyama had both fake out and wide guard support along with close combat to keep up with the power creep.

Yeah, this makes sense. But it doesn't affect me... Because I don't play Scarlet or Violet.

Conk has beeen so clutch for me this regulation with wide guard and being slower than the horse + no Amoonguss sleep. PRIORITY MACH PUNCH???

You’d use them to have fun. I never believed in using the most powerful in-meta thing for any game. Pokemon especially. Winning isnt fun if theres no give and take, or no tactics. Thats just brute force. People who play that way are dull and not worth the time

Spikes setter? Glimmora exists, among other spikes setters The loss of Technician boosted Hidden Power with nothing of value in exchange also doesn’t help, whereas Venusaur got Weather Ball and Earth Power in exchange of Hidden Power

Conkeldurr has higher attack and a lower speed stat, so in trick room you can outspeed more stuff and hit harder, and if you're going full trick room offense the extra HP hariyama has doesn't tend to help that much

Weavile isnt legendary because is better than chien pao
