Their lead guitarist, Kanami, is underrated. You have to pay attention to really appreciate her, because other bands will have big guitar solos where they go nuts, and then they play the rest of the song straight, but Kanami will play really short solos, and then shred through choruses and stuff all the time, but she'll be low in the mix, so it's sneaky. The mix for this show was more guitar-forward than usual, so you could more easily pick up on all of the runs she's doing. You listen to a song like Puzzle, and she basically doesn't take a break, and then you realize that their songs are kind of all like that, and that they'll play 20+ songs like that per set, and you really start to appreciate more how good they are. This recording of Hate was near the end of a 33 song concert. Their stamina is incredible, and it's impressive that they can even memorize that many songs with how much they're switching it up from section to section in all of them.

Counting only actual TOURS, they've had four North American tours (the last was in two segments [I've been to all of these tours]). In a poll, with 95,000+ votes cast (professionals, amateurs and listeners), Akane was voted best female rock drummer in the world (Top Five in the gender-irrelevant vote) and Misa was noted best female rock base player (Top Five in the gender-neutral vote). Saiki uniformly gets excellent reviews internationally. Kanami was in a professional guitarist's periodical last year that addressed the best up-and-coming young rock guitarists world-wide (she was the picture over the article's title page). Miku did not know how to play the guitar when she founded the group back in 2013, but, under Kanami's instruction, she has become a very good rhythm guitarist. Essentially all are rated as top professionals. Their songs have been used in anime's and other TV shows in Japan, as well as in a cable movie and a cable TV show in the United States. Not bad for an all-female hard rock band that sings primarily in Japanese and (with the exception of Live Nation) has been almost ignored by the American music/music media industries.

Welcome to Band-Maid! The best hard rock band I have heard in my 58 years on this planet. They don't stick to any one genre and often mix genres in songs. They are extremely diverse and have an extensive back catalogue featuring Punk, Pop-Punk, Hard-Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Prog, Blues, Jazz, Groove, Rap etc. From face melting 220 bpm punk-prog to ballads, instrumentals to acoustics they do it all. They can make you headbang, they can make you pogo, they can make you cry like a baby. They are also five of the nicest people in music, without a shred of ego. They are funny and fun and world class musicians to boot. They are currently into their 11th year with the original line up. Btw, Miku the rhythm guitarist (red rose) formed the band. She had the idea of Band-Maid after working as a maid in Japanese maid cafe's. Her idea is a concept called "The Gap" - that is what you see (cute maids) is NOT what you get (Hard Rock/Punk/Metal). They take the maid café concept literally. They call their concerts "servings" and their fans "Masters and Princesses". Oh, and Miku is an 810 year old small pigeon. Welcome to the pigeon hole Po!

With all due respect to Babymetal (and they deserve a lot), the women in that band do not [essentially] play their own instruments (that's what the excellent Kami Band is for), and they do not write most of their own material. The ladies in Band Maid DO play their own instruments (and at a top professional level). They fought for years to gain almost total artistic control of their product (lyrics, composition, arrangements and much of the post-production. They are the "Real Deal", and they are very special. Ten-plus years and 130+ songs into their career, they just keep growing as musicians, artists and entertainers.

Fantastic live show, 20-some songs every time and, as us Maidiacs know, there’s no “bathroom break” songs in their catalog!

@@triceyambae4579I would say that Japanese rock bands that are reminiscent of classic western rock bands DO tend to embody a humility and respect for their audience and fans that the western bands often did not, and that it really resonates with people who are still fans of those earlier groups. It's hard to say how much of the difference is cultural and how much is one time period vs. another.

Welcome, Fab. You are embarking on (along with many others - over 200 million YT views plus over 40 million reactor plays!) an awesome, progressive, hard-rock journey with 5 incredible women. Here's my intro blurb for those who may be new to Band-Maid: BAND-MAID’s songs and sound beat with the heart and soul of all rockers. But you’ll also hear heavy influences of Prog, Punk, Metal and Pop, with nice touches of Blues, Jazz, Funk and Grunge. Sometimes they use multiple genres within the same song. Their Composition, Execution, Joy of Playing, Consistency (130+ songs), Uniqueness, Charisma, Charm and, oh yeah, Cuteness factor, position them as becoming the hard rock Beatles of our time! In other words, they’re destined for mega-stardom. Each member's personalities are super interesting and their musicianship among the best. Their writing, arrangements and overall sound, especially guitar tones and drums, are kick-ass! Having seen them LIVE, I can honestly say their performance, sound, stage appearance, and band synergy is off-the-rails spectacular! Band-Maid is the only band in decades where I love nearly EVERY song they’ve done. I have over 70 favorites! "Thrill" (2014) is a great place to start: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h5inmclsfZCanLQ.html Their songs from albums Unleash, Unseen World, Conqueror, World Domination, Just Bring It, Brand New Maid, and New Beginning drive even more - Hate?, Shambles, Influencer, Warning, No God, Different, Black Hole, Rinne, Blooming, Moratorium, Domination, Clang, Dice, Spirit, Don’t You Tell Me, Turn Me On, Fate, Play, Hide-And-Seek, Secret My Lips, Puzzle, Choose Me, I Can’t Live Without You, and on and on. But don’t miss out on their powerful, beautifully written, mid-tempo songs like Daydreaming, Bestie, About Us, Memorable, Anemone, Endless Story, PAGE, At The Drop Of A Hat, Mirage and Smile... or more punky like After Life, Don’t Let Me Down and Screaming… or funky like Bubble… or bluesy like Manners and The Dragon Cries… or poppy like Start Over… or a bit jazzy like Wonderland… or progressive like No God, Giovanni, and Black Hole… or cultural like the Band-Maiko series… or instrumentals like From Now On, Don’t Be Long, Onset, Without Holding Back and Going Nuts… or their many acoustic versions like Catharsis and Sayonakidori... and last but not least, their Anime hits (AniMaid) like Sense, Glory and Unleash!!!!! (from their own Anime MV (series?)): kzread.info/dash/bejne/aYB2waeJg5eeeKg.html) And many songs are represented with over 50 well produced music videos. kzread.info Most performances should be experienced from their LIVE audience & online OKYUJI concerts:  2023 Yokohama 10th Year Anniversary Concert “Endless Story” kzread.info/dash/bejne/jJVl24-LgrnKZ5M.html  ONLINE OKYU-JI (Feb. 11, 2021) “No God” kzread.info/dash/bejne/oHWYudCCgs2tkc4.html  Tokyo's LINE CUBE SHIBUYA (February 14, 2020) “Domination” kzread.info/dash/bejne/g5ats6WDnpnYico.html  ZEPP 2018 “Real Existence” kzread.info/dash/bejne/X6WF0K2CfLWbpZM.html  Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 and other full concerts are on bandmaidprime.tokyo, bili, and official Band-Maid’s DVD/BD/CD. And some of the better quality fan videos are excellent. Here’s two of what it’s like to see Band-Maid LIVE at an intimate venue:  Shot by Pat McKee from their 2023 US tour concert in Detroit: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dpust4-Ghs3akZM.html  See the Maids 2023 Rockville Festival’s short-set perfection performance: kzread.info/dash/bejne/qJ6OzbCen6rTmMY.html If you like Band-Maid, make sure to support them by purchasing some concert tickets, live streams, CD, DVD/BD & merch, etc. bandmaid.tokyo Like most Band-Maid songs, I like them from the get-go but really start to appreciate them after more hearings and seeing their LIVE videos. I'll go back and see an older song like YOLO, Order, Shake That, Freezer, Don’t Let Me Down, Before Yesterday, Real Existence, Non Fiction Days and Alone, etc. and realize there's no band that can consistently construct and play like Band-Maid. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock frontwomen... or frontmen! Miku Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR SpokesPigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. Kuruppo! No, no, no… KURUPPO!! Kanami Tono (Ka-Na-Me) “Princess” - Lead guitar, keyboards, 32 years old, is a prolific writer of most Band-Maid material. Kanami (translates “Song Wave”) is a possessed riff-slayer who’s so damn adorable it hurts. The only thing you want from Mincho is more! Akane Hirose (A-Ka-Nay) "Gorilla" - Drums, 33 years old, band energizer & co-clown with MISA. Achi’s talents include massive consumption of noodles and bananas, of course, (even during performance!) while revolutionizing rock drumming with relentless drive, dynamics and the kick. This “DrumZilla” is the Party! MISA (Me-Sa) "Barefoot Assassin" - Bass, 31 years old. An alluring free spirit driving her 5-string to rapturous low-ends while pulling off surprising counter leads with Kanami, off-stage MISA is the band’s goofball ballerina. Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note... uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Maidiacs (Maid-e-acts) - Band-Maid’s crazed yet supportive, knowledgeable and loyal Super Fans. When Miku Kobato, the band's founder, rhythm guitarist, chief lyricist, and chief spokesperson, had worked in a Tokyo maid cage, she was also a Japanese idol winner. She didn't want a career as an idol, so she pitched the concept of young women wearing maid costumes and playing hard rock. The management company agreed and Band-Maid was created. The band has been together for over a decade (intact). At first, all the Maids wore the same maid costumes. Several of the members change to outfits they felt more comfortable with, so that is why each of them wears an outfit that reflects their personality. regardless, these insanely talented young Japanese females rock better than most current male dominated rock bands.

Band-Maid's "Maid Costumes" have evolved from generic matching maid costumes provided to them by their management, to their current individualized costumes based on their personal input. The current costumes look great on camera, but when you're ten feet away from the stage, they look stunning. The Maid's love touring the USA. In 2023 they toured starting in Texas in May, making a loop up the East coast and ending in the Midwest where I saw them twice, first at a small club in Detroit and then at Sonic Temple in Ohio. They returned in August and played a killer set at Lollapalooza, then headed West across towards Washington State, down the West Coast and ended at Mexico City.

Very cool to see someone open to learning more about these wonderful Japanese bands. Japan is so rich with culture and the Rock, Pop & Metal scene is incredible. I can listen to some pop or some pop rock stuff but I do prefer the Hard Rock to that & typically lean more Heavy Metal. The Japanese "rabbit hole" does not have an end or bottom, if you will. The Women in Japan just love rock & metal so it's translating into great music for us to enjoy. My favorite Bands I listen to. Rock & Hard rock: Band-Maid, Koiai, Gacharic spin Metal: Lovebites, Hagane, Bridear, Mardelas, Aldious, Asterism, Nemophila Highly recommended songs/artists 👇👇 These songs will set you up and get you head start with a lot of different bands. The 5 Band-Maid members are: SAIKI Atsumi (Sy-i-Key or Psyche) “Ice Queen" - Lead vocals, arrangements and melodies. At 30 and the youngest, “Sensei” (Teacher) as band members call her, has the last word on many musical decisions. High-heels or sneakers, Sai-chan’s smile melts away her sometimes perceived, coldish persona. Saiki’s powerhouse performances, charisma, and voice focus the experience that’s driven her to the top echelon of hard rock front women... or front men! MIKU Kobato (Me-Ku) "Small Pigeon" - Rhythm guitar, vocals, lyricist, 32 years old. “Koba”, as Saiki calls her, is the Band founder and a firecracker MC & PR Spokes Pigeon, po! Her “Magic Spell Time” charm and energy ignite the room. The only thing you want is more! Sometimes seen as the Mysterious One because she lets her instrument do the talking, the Assassin literally kills it… every note uniting Band-Maid’s world-class rhythm section. A slug of JB, a slight grin, and let the slappin’ begin… MISA! MISA! MISA! Try Thrill the song that lauched them, Freedom, Onset and From now on, TBH any thing Band Maid is KILLER

You have opened the floodgates. They may be the best rock group in the world today (I think they are). They are certainly the most creative band since the Beatles, and they are top-tier musicians. I saw many of the classic rock bands - Purple, Zeppelin, Queen, Santana, many more, all in their heyday. I’ve seen Band-maid three times and their performances stand up to any of those legendary bands. You are going to get a lot of suggestions. First, a little background on the band: Saiki Atsumi - Lead vocals Born Feb 8, 1994 MISA - Bass Born Oct 15, 1992 Kanami Tono - Lead guitar, Main composer and arranger Born Sept 28, 1991 Miku Kobato - Rhythm guitar, backing vocal Born Oct 21, 1991 Akane Hirose - Drums Born Dec 14, 1990 Miku was working in a Maid Café after being in an idol group that didn’t break through. She envisoned the idea of a maid-band that plays hard rock and metal. She recruited Kanami, after finding a Kanami guitar cover on line; Kanami then recruited Akane, who recruited MISA. Akane and MISA had been students together at the Tokyo Music Academy. The group decided they needed more vocal “oomph”, and collectively recruited Saiki. Miku didn't know how to play guitar when they started, so Kanami has been teaching her. She's become good so fast that she is really adding to the music mix, and Maidiacs are daring to dream of a dual shred. The band was struggling early on, and in 2014, even as the label was considering dropping them, they posted the music video for “Thrill” which went viral globally. When they realized what was going on, it gave them the momentum to forge ahead, and they have now done multiple tours of Europe and the U.S. and are building a global fanbase who call themselves the Maidiacs. They have released seven full albums, as well as several EPs, singles and music videos. They have put out around 170 songs, covering a wide variety of styles and sounds, without any duds. They combine a punk vibe with instrumental virtuosity (two things that are often seen as being incompatible), and have done some amazing progressive-rock songs and ballads with a metal edge to them. They toured the U.S. in 2022 and sold out 14 cities in less than 48 hours. They followed it up with a 2023 tour which had to be expanded from their original plans. Their fan base skews heavily to actual practicing musicians. Some of those followed the band to multiple dates and documented everything on youtube-some of the footage is hilarious. I’ve seen them in 2019, 2022 and 2023. Their shows are truly life-reaffirming. So far no announcements of another European tour but it seems likely in 2024. Band-Maid are that rare band that sound perfect live, even better than in the studio. Everything they have posted from their 10thAnniversary concert in Yokohama is absolute fire-I have bought the DVD and recommend you do too. 33 songs, 3 hours of insanity. You just watched one clip from that concert. Here are more links, to older performances: Freedom (Feb 14 2020) kzread.info/dash/bejne/eHyk16eqfaTJdMo.html Domination (Feb 14 2020) kzread.info/dash/bejne/g5ats6WDnpnYico.html Choose Me (Feb 14 2020) kzread.info/dash/bejne/epely9abiMrPl7g.html Onset (Instrumental-insane!) kzread.info/dash/bejne/n4qmsI-jj7jJYLg.html And an official MV, one of their most popular: Daydreaming (it’s a slower ballad, gorgeous and truly heart-wrenching): kzread.info/dash/bejne/hHeVx7ekoqzaqbw.html If you want more background, I suggest you react to this classic interview. It's hilarious, it's insightful, you will learn their names for good, and their cuteness will destroy your brain. Oh, and they are completely nuts. kzread.info/dash/bejne/hGiE0cisgbzdnpc.html

Okay, names, pronunciation, nicknames, and roles, in order that they joined the band. Miku Kobato - mee-koo - Kuruppo, the Little Pigeon, the Little Engine Who Will - band founder, backing (and occasionally lead) vocals, rhythm guitar, principal lyricist, tireless Spokespigeon and PR machine. Wielder of weapons grade cuteness. Poker shark and horse racing fanatic. So determined to see her band succeed that she fired herself as lead singer (she decided her voice wasn't strong enough for hard rock), then went looking for a replacement. Learned to play guitar after the band was formed. Definitely eccentric, possibly insane. Kanami Tono - kah-nah-mee - Kanamincho or just Mincho - lead guitar, keyboards, principal composer and arranger. On stage, she's a savant mad riffer with a room temperature IQ and a huge crush on Saiki. In reality, she's a genius, and not just musically- she has a degree in economics with honors. A sweet, motherly woman who turns into a beast when you hand her a guitar. Akane Hirose - ah-kah-neh - A-chan, the Gorilla - drums, sequencing, snacks, the leader the band doesn't have. What you see is what you get- a cheerful jock with a huge appetite who burns off the calories murdering her drums. Completely unflappable. Frequently snacks between songs. Has been known to sign her banana peels and throw them to the audience. MISA - mee-sah - the Barefoot Assassin, MISA MISA MISA! - bass, booze, occasional wet work. Usually stone faced. Barely acknowledges the audience's existence. Always has a beer or a bottle of Jim Beam on her Orange amp. Originally, these were ways of coping with stage fright. These days, that's just how the assassin rolls. Saiki Atsumi - sah-ee-kee (but Psyche is close enough) - the Ice Queen, Sensei, Sai-chan - lead vocals, some lyrics, the "We're done" girl. Fashionista and train nerd. Regards her band mates, especially Kanami and Miku, with bemused exasperation. In total command on stage; hides behind Miku off stage (she's actually kind of shy).

Welcome to the BandMaid experience! The greatest proper rock and roll band of the 21st century. Here's some opinions and facts: •Bass solos are more likely to happen than not. There's a bass solo on their very first video! •Guitar solos are shorter, far shorter than you would like them to be •Unless you are superhuman, you will not/ can not be able to pick up everything they're doing to make that song great on the first listen. •Genre? Genres?? We don' need no stinkin" genre! •You like a hard rocking crazy fast tune? Well how about it done as a slower acoustic version? They do that. •April Fools Day 2019 As a joke they recorded a redo of Secret my Lips with traditional instruments and with lyrics in a Kyoto dialect. MV is stunningly beautiful. •The linchpin member of the band gets the least notice/praise. The Mighty Miku Kobato founder/lead singer steps back to make way for a new more hard rock vocalist. They want her to hold a guitar so she does and learns to play on the fly, performing all the while she's learning. So the person who willed the band into existence, who is the primary lyricist, the only member who sings and plays an instrument most of the time gets the least comments from reactors. Oh yeah she has her own signature model guitar from Zematis (after playing less than 10 yrs) •There is no "I" in BANDMAID. Well ok there is one "I" but my point is the songs are written by BandMaid. Not just Kanami Tono. The highly innovative bass and drum lines are created by Akane and MISA. There are no George songs and John&Paul songs. There are only BandMaid songs. •10 plus years with the same line up. Think about that. •More hooks, riffs and motifs in many songs than most bands have on an album. Check it out. No hyperbole. •Use of puns, wordplay using homophones between Japanese and English are not the exception. They are typical of Kobato's lyrics. •Despite the fact that their LIVE videos are superior to the official studio MV"s the latter are excellent. Funny, graphic, innovative and stunningly beautiful works of art describe what you get with BandMaid's official MV's. •As close to the Beatles in terms of unique persona of the members as any group since the Monkees. MISA is quiet and drinks. Akane is happy and eats, Miku is klutzy and CUTE, Kanami is an airhead who crushes on Saiki and Saiki was the Ice Queen. But the Ice Queen has thoroughly thawed. See Yokohama's Endless Story! Their image is carefully crafted or spontaneous or both. •Many songs have catch phrases or singalong sections to engage the audience. Many songs are in English and Japanese. Most songs are full of joy as well. •They're having a ball. They enjoy performing. They enjoy the fans. They enjoy each other. •Make no mistake, this is not a regular band.

Baby Metal is essentially a corporate band. Created by a corporation and directed by them. Everything about them serves the concepts of modern music of the corporation. Band Maid is the complete opposite. They write and create their own music. They band came together on their own, essentially created by Miku (the rythym guitarist). She worked as a maid in a Japanese maid cafe, something we don't have here. Her idea was something now called "The Gap" in Japan because of this band. Cute girls in maid outfits who just play KICK ASS rock/metal. Band Maid is a phenonemon in concert. I saw them last summer in Salt Lake City of all places and they were just amzingly, incredible. Three hours of mind blowing music. Subscribed to your channel because this was a very insightful reaction for a first timer to BM and I figured your other reactions most likely will be every bit as good. I love the large screen for the performers. This is what we love to see (not just locked into a little corner somewhere). Actually , technically you kinda have that backwards. It seems that way. Think of Babymetal as a team of experienced professionals run independently of corporate. They are their own division. They are actually pretty organic for Japan. Babymetal were members of a corporate idol group but they needed subgroups. One producer who started in the metal division but had to transfer to the kids division, when the metal shut down, had the idea for Babymetal. Corporate didn't want it and didn't pay for it. But they let him volunteer and do it on his own by calling in favors. Miku worked at a maid cafe owned by the management agency she was signed too. The one that managed the Idol group she was in. And she had the idea for the concept. She got approval and formed the band. It was a few albums before the agency would let them record one of there own songs. So Band-Maid has plenty of corporate oversight. But they've proven themselves and the members are trusted more and more.

I think they will show a little love for their European and South American fans next but they will be back in the US before you know it. They seemingly love performing State side. Band Maid is an actual Rock Band of 5 talented musicians who actually write and play their own music. Not even close to the same thing to be honest.

You're wrong on so many levels and Band-Maid would be embarrassed to read your comment. I was living in a music bubble and Japanese music freed me. Then I see in youtube comments fans stuck in a bubble of one band. I don't get it. And competitive fan bases. The groups aren't competitive and they don't want the negative energy. Do yourself a favor my friend. Everyday watch a Japanese group you normally wouldn't. Try my favorite Idol group. Takane no Nadeshiko. Kessen Spirit is a good song.

@@jefffromchicago6321 Pretty much every one of my favorite bands are Japanese. It’s not my fault you prefer circus acts. I’ve known of them for far longer than you from when their fans were mostly men into little girls.

Thats the problem with some reactions...making assumptions about talent when pausing every 15 seconds then finding out how completely wrong you were. Some people love these pauses but I cant see how anyone can make any judgement about a tune when the flow is interrupted throughout. That may be from you being a new reactor and not getting your groove yet. I'll continue to watch your vids to see how you grow. Thanks for taking a moment to listen to the best Rock group in the world...BAND-MAID. Hopefully you'll listen to more of them. I would give you a suggestion on the next track but it doesnt matter.....they are all great. Just go to YT Band-Maid and pick one.......ANY one.

@@thefablesfolly Dont pay any attention to me. Im just an old coot with a different opinion on how "I" listen to music and sometimes sound very abrupt in my comments. Its your channel and you are just getting started developing your style and format. Im subscribed and will continue to watch your reactions to the greatest band in the world. If you see my comments and it sounds like a lecture just laugh it off because I dont mean to sound rude....thats just my style on certain subjects. All opinion when it comes to music so if I tell you to, "get off my lawn", just flip me off.

I know what you mean but Saiki is not “singing to you.” The song is about hating someone. It was motivated by a spate of stories in the Japanese media about relationship breakups. I’m sure Saiki does not hate you. This entire band is made out of 100 percent love. ❤🕊❤🌊❤🦍❤🥷❤👸🏻
