As a human being I’m tired of the entitlement from artists. If someone wants the quality of art your creating, they’ll buy it. If they don’t stop whining that they’re choosing to use a different source. Especially in these times I cannot imagine not getting a real fucking job, then whining people aren’t spending their hard earned money on my creations. We don’t all have money to spend on your art lmao! We’ll use a source we either have a one time fee for, or at an exceptionally less than the cost of your art. If you want a stable income, get a stable job.

As someone in the cosmetic skincare industry, Rhode’s packaging was neither innovative or original. It follows the trend of minimalistic and aesthetically pleasing packaging that many other brands had already been doing. A lot of people don’t recognize how design trends intersect across mediums. That blob shaped simple/smooth monochromatic look is just following the same (specifically genz) interior trends, graphic design trends, etc. in the same way rhode was. Brands are more closely following these trends more and more for their packaging as the aesthetics and the “keeping it on the sink” appeal is becoming way more of a major factor in how people decide to buy their skincare now compared to the last decade where people preferred products that looked clean and medicinal. It’s an unfortunate coincidence considering their history but neither of them have original or unique packaging in the first place. You can specifically tell they had this packaging planned in advance because the blob/ambiguous shape trend is already on the way out.

The minimalistic design is popular right now, there’s only so many ways you can design minimalist packaging or it defeats the purpose.

Its funny people are comparing Rhode’s and Rare Beauty’s packaging when they are not the same. When you mentioned it I was expecting the bottles to have the exact same shape but theyre not even close 💀. I also heard from Johnny Ross that Rare Beauty worked with Physical Therapists to design the packaging. Apparently the hand lotion bottle doubles as hand massager and everything is easy to open 👀

i can believe the thing about physical therapists, since Selena said the same thing when she released the original Rare Beauty line. Like people were questioning why there were domes on the lip products and blushes, and she made a whole video explaining how it helps people with arthritis like her. honestly always liked Selena but i have a new level of respect for her when she puts details like that into her products so anyone can use it easily.

The Patrick thing kind of had my hackles raising... not because of him, but because of the backlash he received. He did a sweet thing for his staff, and they seemed appreciative of the fact. Could he have commissioned the art? Sure. However the response from everyone just reminds me that the internet is why we can't have nice things... people just want to attack people, no matter what they do, and it makes me truly sad.

It is not just because he "could have commissioned the art". AI art generators have to have been trained with art that actual artists made in order to function in any capacity, and its not just one or two, or a few hundred pieces either. It is not just taking away potential future jobs from artists, but actively stealing past works and IPs of artists who have not given them permission to make money off of said works. Honestly I don't think Patrick did it with any malicious or lazy intentions, but that he was just ignorant about how these AI generators work, just like most people. I personally wouldn't fault him for it because he clearly didn't know, even as an illustrator myself who is aware how AI could affect the entire industry as a whole. It'd just be better if he knew, so it's still the right thing to do to inform him. The whole art instead of bonus thing was incredibly silly though. I doesn't make much sense for him to not give a bonus along with a gift, since its customary to give both in a lot of work places.

Moral of the story with Patrick: you’re damned if you do and you’re damned if you don’t because someone will always have a problem.

Patrick is a creative person and the idea is super cute but to be able to make those AI pictures the system had to rip off real artist art styles which is the real problem for me. There's a lot of great artist in the internet age and this is like a punch in the face to see him doing this. The bonuses are not our business and frankly I would be uncomfortable if my boss showed to the world how much he's giving me. I'm disappointed but not surprised art is never taken seriously even by other artists (and yes Patrick is an artist make up is art)

Also bonuses are typically given during an end of the year review. In office. Also, private between employer and employee. It would be really weird to give out money in front of everyone.

As an artist, I'm kind of bugged out with AI Art, but I accepted it because AI will become a big thing in the future. I truly do believe Patrick's action were genuine and cute. However more people really need to do their research about AI Art especially it is stealing from other people works. I just accept that AI will take over but it doesn't justify that we still need to but ground rules with AI Art.

I agree about AI not being the way to go for a personalized picture of yourself, I wouldn't want to support something that it's feeding off of real art made by real artists. @@emileek4107 Hi AI developer here! AI is meant ti make our life easier quick and efficient. An artist will take over 3 hours to do this wile an AI takes less then 5 minutes. The AI isn't perfect tho it still struggles to draw noses and hands but as a programmer we are working on that :) Your work is greatly appreciated and it can be made with more details but s project like what Patrick did and AI is not too bad since its something quickly and simple and isn't using a lot amount of details and if he did I don't think the AI would understand it.

I love Patrick, but I really agree with the AI thing. I’m an author and it is a big debate in the field too - obviously using AI is 500 times cheaper than commissioning an artist for a design and/or doing a shoot with people…but I am still firmly on the side of artists. Plus the results are just 10 times better and more original. I hate that even very wealthy influencers now go the AI route. So yeah…it’s not a non-issue to me.

Whether or not Patrick gave out bonuses is nobody's business. I seriously don't understand what people are having a fuss over.

But really, those shipping costs are insane. Every country has it's own rules, but when I wanted to buy a custom hockey mask for my son it was about 100 dollar with USA shipping costs included, but as soon as the package would be here in the Netherlands, the real sh*tshow began: Tax, shipping fee, another tax, customs tax, all in all I would have to spend another 150 dollar just to get the mask in my hands 🤦‍♀️😱 Yeah, I didn't get it.......

Some people are really acting as if holiday bonuses are normal anymore (I wish they were). While Patrick for sure could and should have commissioned an artist vs using AI, that doesn't mean holiday bonuses were ever an option unfortunately :( I work at a massive university with profit margins in the millions for this FY alone, and I got a $20 gift card to use downtown that expires and refunds to the sender in 30 days if I don't use it.

The ai art thing isn’t just that it’s taking jobs, it’s that people are training ai on stolen art. The ai is just mashing different pieces stolen from artists together. Think about it this way: imaging you’re an artist and you made a beautiful piece, you post it online to advertise your struggling business and an ai takes this piece without permission edits it together with some more stolen art and sells it making someone else a profit. It’s theft and the only thing these people have to say is “well if you didn’t want it stolen don’t put it somewhere where I can steal it.” Or “it’s not stolen it’s a bunch of people’s art!” It’s disgusting. Not to mention the fact that those people’s likenesses are permanently online being used by whoever for whatever reason without their permission.

I never buy a bundle without doing my own calculations on the "deal" I can agree James team should of done a discount but the customers should do their best to inform themselves too.

I am not a fan of Patrick, but that was a very sweet idea. The fact that he did it himself, didn’t make his assistants do it, like most CEOs would is even more wholesome. The hate he’s getting for this is ridiculous. He probably gave them a bonus and if he didn’t, does anyone have any idea about the salaries and the work conditions he offers? As an artist, I'll explain why AI art is not it other than taking jobs. AI needs source material and AI art will use other artist's work as their database without crediting or even asking them. I have used AI before to generate references, but using was AI spits out and calling it a day is technology assisted art theft.

The Selena/Hailey thing is ridiculous. You can decide to not support someone for immoral values without lying about how much you hate their product and love a product you hated a couple months ago when the internet was stanning Selena. Tell me how all of sudden her AMAZING makeup line became mid and overrated. Just be honest instead of following hive mind. She has some great products. They're great quality. Some things are just more important, and lying about the reason you don't like/want a product discredits the real reason.

For me it seemed like Patrick thought of those gifts last minute, especially with the “I spent 14 hours working on these”, which is probably why he used AI instead of an actual artist. I’m not saying what he did was right or morale, I just kinda understand where he’s coming from.

And if he did give out bonuses on TikTok people would complain about that…you can’t win anymore. People find an issue in EVERYTHING, it’s beyond annoying. Cancel culture has given people way too much confidence in thinking they can control how celebrities/influencers are perceived. This is why when serious shit happens and people are “cancelled” it’s not taken seriously, they take a break and come right back.

that everybody has to judge everything is just annoying. He made something by hand with notes which is very cute. If he would have bragged about giving everyone x amount of money people would be complaining that he is not giving the money to charity. It’s a very unnecessary drama

The thing about the bonus... its rarely given as cash or separate check these days. It's usually given as an item added onto your paycheck/stub, which so many people just have paperless direct deposit for now. It's done with the regular paycheck for that pay period because it's taxable, considered "supplemental income." Anyway point is I agree its unlikely that anyone would hand out checks on camera for bonuses, it would just be weird.

The gifts seem really sweet and well received. I agree it could have been done differently but it seems like he tried to do it himself in 1 day and maybe didn’t have enough time

I do hope Patrick gave his employees a money bonus, because just a picture would suck, but I'm petty so.. and James Charles just needs to go away. He's gross AF

I'm sure his employees got a bonus and this is a fluff gift. Their employees seem to be appreciative and are having fun. Last year my bonus was a $10 uber eats card. I'm not even joking.

From thirty years ago to today's world is disturbing.

A few months ago there was a trend of pet owners turning their dogs and cats into disney characters with AI. Meanwhile me - a freelance artist - does pet portraits for 25 bucks that I pour a lot of loveand time into and make sure they actually look like the pet. I have sold NONE this entire year.

That is really sad, I hope u get more commissions❣️❣️ ai art looks so cheap and I don’t know why people are still getting them, I don’t mind as a TikTok 30s trend but like the ting Patrick star did for example is so bad. I took a break from my digital practice cuz I am learning traditional art but now I don’t wanna go back to digital 😞 and ai didn’t affect my art journey one bit when it was starting to get buzz, but now I have grown and thinking of pursuing a career, it is starting to be scary Like I am not even kidding when I say those portrait partick star did so look cheap😭😭😭 idk how him as an artist think they r worth spending his time decorating, cuz he just didn’t give it out, he was farming.

@@kaitlynb5467 Aw, thank you a lot! Luckily my other types of art I offer sell well enough so I can pay my bills. And I know, it's a scary time. But if you enjoy doing digital art, pursue it either way! Corporations might go for AI images since they care about profits only, but I do really think there will always be people willing to pay for human made art!

I know this type of stuff is extremely discouraging but please don’t give up and keep trying! It’s easier said than done I know but you will get your ball rolling so fast eventually you will be overwhelmed! Hang in there :)

I think it's so vile how everyone was dragging Patrick Starr! especially during the holiday season! He's not problematic AT ALL! He seems like such a sweetheart and, yeah, do I wish he hadn't used AI? OF COURSE. But, look at how happy all his employees were! So weird to assume he didn't get them a christmas bonus. It's not our business whether or not he did give them one, it's between him and his employees!

I understand the want for real artists to keep creating those type of things but we don’t know if it was a last minute idea and for so many people it probably would’ve been hard to do in such a time frame so ai was maybe just easier. I’m not saying that it should become the norm but there are so many other things to complain about than how someone made thoughtful gifts for their friends/coworkers at the end of the day.

I think it was a nice gesture and who's to say that he did not give them bonuses. Im sure he didnt do this with a "dystopian" goal in mind. Yeah he could have commissioned an artist I agree with that part. But dont take away the sweetness of the gesture.

I can actually confirm that James was at the Gold Coast. However, this was almost A YEAR ago. One of my best friend's sister and her friends saw him at Movie World November last year when they travelled up for their year 10 camp. It's most likely that he was there for PAINTED. But what makes it weird is that one, it was more then a year ago, so why would it take that long to implement domestic shipping? and two, why is he at a park that is dedicated to children??

Honestly rare's packaging reminds me way more of Kim Kardashians skincare packaging

I thought the gift was cute. No one is grateful for anything anymore, he didn’t have to get them anything. Bonuses are great but not mandatory.

As long as he gave them Christmas bonuses, I see nothing wrong with the Ai portraits. It was sweet.

I think for Christmas bonuses, it's a payment thing that's meant to be discreet, no? But, for artwork, it's a double edge sword. On one hand, there's artist out there that really do need the commission to survive and, it really shuns their artistry. Meaning, people are discrediting the years of artwork they (artist) create. On the other hand, it's easy to get the artwork done easily without spending the dollars

I don't understand why people keep trying to create drama between Haley and Selena. There's literally nothing there, but yet every single post I see about either one of them there's always comments bashing the other person.

The Patrick Starr thing is so ridiculous. Yes, maybe should have commissioned an artist, but he seemed genuine and wanted to do something heartfelt. They probably appreciated that he put an effort into actually making it himself. People will look for a reason to be mad about anything. The same people that are assuming that he didn’t give out a bonus are probably the same people that think he should have commissioned an artist to do the work. The bonus money probably been eaten up by having an actual artist do the paintings. That type of work isn’t cheap.

The ai is the worst part of that story. Im so absolutely disappointed in other creatives using ai as long as its not their job being affected by ai.

looks like the only people upset are the ones who didn't get the holiday gift and secret bonus.

I work for the warehouse that houses Sephora. We got NOTHING. Not a bonus, or a gift. We had to take Christmas as an unpaid day off. A bunch of us couldn’t afford it. Only some of the managers got paid for time off, I was one of the managers that didn’t.

People shouldn’t assume they didn’t get a bonus, my job gave bonus’ and also a large gift too.

These people are spending over $100 to support a predator

The gifts Patrick gave were so so sweet. As someone who knows so many people in art and entertainment though, the repercussions of AI art are so real. I know so many people out of work or losing their jobs to AI. It would have been really awesome to see someone as influential and well off as Patrick taking the step to support other artists when this is happening but the gifts are very sweet regardless! I think people are just unaware of how bad the situation has gotten for professional artists so I always hope that people can think about them and look out for them. An entire industry’s livelihoods are being taken. I believe this is why people were upset and have such strong feelings on the matter. For personalized gifts, I think that’s between the individual parties, but I artists aren’t being heard and absolutely should be.

Hi My opinion, minimal fonts were in the use for years, not invented by Rhode only. Besides there is only so many font styles available at some point some similarities will be showing, doesnt necessarily mean it was copied. Let’s not be quick to judge each other spread love ❤
