You mentioned stopping for an Americano at Lily's at the beginning of your video. They have their own fish and chip shop/small cafe in the centre of Hornsea too. And they are very good fish and chips! Lovely pleasant staff too. That was a Brill video, thank you.

Great review of the "must have fish and chips" My tip as a van dweller is to turn your oven on once you have parked, go in to the chip shop and (inevitably) queue up and then when you return to the van, turn the now hot oven off and put the cardboard fish and chip box in the oven till you get to your park up. The chips stay crispy and the fish stays lovely and hot. Mmmmmn tasty😊

I used to visit Hornsea most months with my job....I do miss it, and East Yorkshire.

Oh james you really putt your heart&soul into that ad ,I'm running to sign up to 50years worth of stock as we see I bet all the top advertising agents are banging on your van roof for expertise&integrity. Lol.

At the Hornsea pottery factory at Lancaster there was a window in the side of the factory wall , I used to stand for hours watching them make the plates etc when I was a kid .

Great video! I always keep salt and vinegar in the car and put it on when I get back otherwise if you put it on in the shop, by the time you get back, the vinegar soaks in and the batter goes soggy. 👍

You could just sense those fish and chips were nice, just by listening to the crunching noise as you bit into that Haddock, quality fish and well made batter. Perfectly presented, chunky chips, and green mushy peas of a good consistency.

Hi james. Great vlog. Hornsea a bonny place. 13 miles from hull. Whiteheads chippy in my top 2 chippies. 1. Whiteheads, 2. Audreys bridlington. Yes a bit dear, but get what you pay for usually. Boyes, ha ha! There are 3 very large Boyes in Hull. 1 in city centre, Whitefriargate, 1 on holderness rd, and one on hessle rd. Yes i liked hornsea pottery. Place is a bit bleak now. The mere is nice in summer. Locals seem nice enough. Watchin you eat those chips made me hungry! Van looks cool. Enjoy your suprise trip with Helen. All the best. Andy McCartney, Hull

£11.55 for Fish & Chips that good is tremendous value. I'd have happily paid £15 for those and gone back regularly. All we want is good fish & chips chip shop owners!!!

High James love the channel brought up in your local areas of travel but married a Scottish lady so stay near Edinburgh you should visit bring Hellen in the summer though. Please do a bargain f&c review sometime. Enjoy your holiday.

Being honest I find most of the chippies I’ve visited in Yorkshire a cut above ours in the north east ..the wetherby whaler is my favourite.. will definitely visit that one next time I’m down that way…great vid 👍

Brilliant intro and, especially, outro with lovely choice of music. The outro music in particular was very evocative of an out of season seaside town. It must seem really difficult at this time of year to fill twice-weekly vlogs when your speciality is English holiday destinations but you do it very well, especially the seaside towns, capturing the downbeat melancholy of these places. The run-down shabbiness, and the few folk all wrapped up have their own weird attractiveness. I know it's cold and frequently wet at the moment, but I look forward to more walks in the country, away from the temptations of fishnchips, with or without Helen. (preferably with). I was going to say something about keeping fish and chips wrapped up for minutes on end, but that would be rude. I know I don't really need to. Would they have been a ten if you'd eaten them in, or will you never give a ten? I wouldn't.

Really enjoyed the music & scenes at the beginning and end. Well done. Would love to hear more about your antique expertise and what got you interested in that field. More relevant personal details would add depth to your videos. Maybe do green salad reviews for 2024? 😅 I love fish & chips and a good pint, but that food is tough on the waistline. You could pay 2 or maybe 3 times that price for prepared food here in the States. All your UK prices seem reasonable to me! Happy New Year, James!

My van window shades are like yours, I have the bug screen or the pleated cloth slide up and down shades. Hornsea looks like a nice place to walk around, too bad some things were closed. So, is this the highest scoring fish & chips so far? You need one of those Hot Logic(or something like it) meal warmers to put your fish in till you get to your park-up. I'm trying to figure out where you will take Helen for her 50th, maybe the Canary Islands? Hope you two have a really good time, enjoy! Happy Birthday Helen🥳🎂

Loving the videos. When we had our home built van (ex network rail welfare unit) we used to go Hornsea almost every weekend and park up on the seafront near the boat yard. We used to Jetski off there in the winter storms as the surf is really good and the sea is surprisingly warm when it’s snowing and blowing force 6.

We are spoilt for fish and chips in Hornsea, there are several to choose from and they are all good. You might have let the secret out about property prices though. Houses are well under-priced considering the area because it is a really decent place to live with way less problems than most towns. Only one criticism, its not pronounced Hornzee, its pronounces as you see it Horn Sea.

That fish and chip shop look so clean in the back which I don’t get to see normally, And the fish and chips looks delicious😋 Nice video.

Thanks for bringing us to Hornsea! I love the Hornsea pottery (I collect 'Bronte') so it was a shame we didn't get to see inside the museum, but that aside another lovely vlog. The reason why the chips seem soggy is because of those bloody boxes...they retain the heat and the steam makes the food soggy if its not opened for a while...

James as a family we have been to whiteheads a few times and its good but we also go to Sullivans which is also very good. There is another chippy we havent been to in Hornsea which we are told is good. Good chippys in Yorkshire.

I was "slavering" watching you eat those fish and chips. I was born in Hull, and trained as a chef in Scarborough. Not been on the east coast for many years. It makes me home sick😢. Thanks for all your fantastic videos. Great to watch you both. 😊

Been watching you and Helen for a couple of months now, and binge watching trying to catch up...and the one of you both in Scarborough , staying at the Grand etc inspired us to say, you know what, let's book it....we have literally just come back today, and was on the third floor of the Grand, and like you, was pleasantly surprised..we paid £44 a night with sea view..bargain...the went for breakfast at the bargain Conservatory and had a fantastic breakfast...then went to Boyes and saw the coloured cotton's and wools that you both commented on,, then tried to go to the chippy where you had to book, but it's closed till February unfortunately, so walked up the hill to the pub you went to...anyway we are not stalkers lol, just made us laugh on your footsteps through Scarborough...was doing my wife's head in with me saying that's where James and Helen sat etc lol...anyway sorry for the waffling...you are both are so funny together, and are a breath of fresh air on You Tube...keep up the great work and keep the reviews of the chip shops up...stay safe....Sithee

My local chippy charges £6.50 for F&C and curry sauce. Fish cooked to order, nowt stacked up in the warmers getting flabby. They must be doing ok because they're off to Mauritius a couple of times a year.

That was torture! Offering up a delicious chip, a pot of peas and a chunk of steaming haddock to the camera when I’m hungry and no idea what’s for tea! 😂😂 Husband came down from his office. I said “what’s for dinner” (he cooks). He said there are some chicken goujons need eating and he was thinking of making a few chips. Saved! He makes good chips. He’s from Littleborough Lancs. I told him about your beautiful fish and chips. He said they invariably ended up at Hornsea pottery for a day coach trip when on holiday in Bridlington as a kid. We looked it up. The factory is no longer running. But Whitehead’s fish and chips are pinned on Google Maps!

the wife and i were there on Saturday. as a youngster my family and i lived round the corner for over 20 years. there has been a fish n chip shop there for as long as i can remember. admittedly whiteheads is a fine chippy. Usually the chips are first class, maybe they were in the box for a bit too long. usually we sit in the car and tuck into them within 2 minutes. they don't get time to go soft to be honest. great video
