The lore of Cyber Akuma comes from the comics with Apocalypse. Just like how Apocalypse took Angel from the comics and converted him to Archangel, he converted Akuma to Cyber Akuma.

At first I assumed this would be a Majin Vegeta situation where he despite the increased power he isn’t fallen under Apocalypse’s thumb. The win quotes of Cy-Akuma say otherwise and somehow the idea of the perpetually unaligned Akuma falling under someone’s sway is terrifying.

Random bit of trivia: The Shadow characters in the MvC series are a riff on the iconic Kamen Rider franchise. Shadow Charlie's backstory is basically identical to the original Kamen Rider, Takeshi Hongo: An evil organization kidnaps a man and turns him into a cyborg supersoldier, but he escapes before they can brainwash him into obedience and uses his newfound powers to fight against them. Meanwhile, "Shadow Jin" from Shadow Lady's MvC ending is a riff on Kamen Rider V3's Shiro Kazami, with Jin getting mortally wounded by the villains and the two existing Shadows being forced to turn him into a cyborg like themselves to save his life.

Max, literally nobody knows this but the design inspiration comes from another game. Cyber Akuma also known as Z-Gouki was a secret mech character from Cyberbots which was released on the sega saturn 4 months prior (March 28, 1997) to marvel super heroes vs street fighter.

Its crazy cause 1998 was the last time XvSF got a port.

The only fighting game to be 100% balanced was Street Fighter 1, since you could only play Ryu vs Ken.

Btw, I'm 25 and in Portugal I didn't get to play arcades or fighting games in my childhood. But thanks to this dood I've gotten into fighting games since 2015, which was a hard year for me. Started with USF4 and then UMVC3 on PS4. I'm just a casual but I love fighting games and I love how Capcom designs their characters and fighting games mechanics. Looking forward to get into TVC too. It's Mahvel baby !!!

This is what makes secret characters so fun and enjoyable to play against and as during the arcade matches even when playing online. And plus big shout out to the artist that did the cover of the marvel versus Capcom cover

I've actually heard people put dark Sakura on a much higher tier than regular in MVC2 mainly because her teleport has 0 recovery and you can do some wild stuff with that

tbh the concept of mods for these older games is really exciting, has there been any insight into doing it for the other collections yet or does it seem unlikely?

Secret characters of this magnitude seem to be part of that era of gaming, as I highly doubt they’d fly or even be put into modern fighting games. Like say if we were to get New MvC or XMvSF2, I don’t think we’d see something so broken like back then.

Cyber Akuma also appears in Marvel VS Capcom 3 and Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3, where he is a DLC costume for Akuma.

I'd love it if in MvC4, if they brought back Ryu being able to transform into "Ken" and "Akuma" forms for 1 bar like he could in MvC1.

I think its funny how the flashes were like crack to my eyes as a kid, but now pushing forty it's like fucking sand paper over my cornea.

If they do Marvel 4, I'd like a combination of the groove system and some mechanics in prior MvC's/CvS. Like CvS2 you could choose whether to have 1, 2 or 3 characters to use: 1 character would give you more health (like CvS2), access to cancelling specials into specials and a parry or counter move to help against teams that use multiple characters. 2 characters would give your teams slightly less health than a single character and you'd have access to MvCI's/PR:BftG/2XKO active tag system. Then 3 characters would be like UMvC3's with ability to call in assists and do DHC/THC or wall bounce combos. That way there's a way to play for everyone, as not every player enjoys 2v2 or 3v3. Would love to see that compared to an overly complicated traditional groove system. Simplified from CVS but expanded

36:48 I knew who Strider was because my dad's best friend had the first game on the Sega Genesis...but I had forgotten about him until he showed up in MvC1. I also knew who Captain Commando was because i saw his game in the arcades as a child...but again, it had been years at that point.

Jean countered saying that he wasn't really surprising him by showing her any of this and defended that despite there being people who would never change, Proffesor X's beliefs still were just

Minute 26:53: There is missing information there. The palette swap of Morrigan with Lilith´s colour scheme became canon in a series of mangas Capcom released a few years ago. In that manga it is revealed that when Morrigan and Lillith fuse (DBZ style) into one being that is the appearence the fusion takes, as Morrigan is the dominant one. It even has an oficial model kit.

I worked at an arcade in 97. Had this racing game that looked like Stunt Race FX from the SNES with the Mode 7 graphics and the 3d sprites. Well it also had flashing effects and children would have seizures all the time. So yea it's def a thing that happened a lot until the insurance companies got involved.

Hey Max! Love your videos, have for years! With the MvC collection coming out, a suggestion for a video might be a breakdown of the MvC2 characters and assists! With a huge roster and three assists per character, it's hard to tell which is best to use for each character for different team set-ups.

Its relaxing listening to the song and have Max tell stories over it.

Man I love me some Mecha gief. Also learned something new about being able to choose your assists in mvc1. Can't wait for the collection.

I don't know how, but as a young child, I was able to consistently find Roll on the character select in the (ABSURDLY loud) PS1 port. Her and Mega Man were always my favorite characters. I don't remember playing anyone else as strongly, but Venom and Gambit probably made strong impressions.

I absolutely love Desk and his in-depth analysis videos, the one that looks at the MVC1 Special Partners and the series they come from, I can’t believe MVC1 invented Assist Trophies before Smash did in Brawl and holy coincidence they are 10 years apart. MVC1 released in 1998 Brawl released in 2008 If you could have Special Partner Playable who would you choose? For its Jubilee I’ve heard she’d be sort of like the Dan Hibiki on the Marvel side, is that true?

Quickest way to see if MvC1 has flicker reduction on or off is to check the color of the super background during a duo team attack. Full flicker/flash is rotating rainbow color and flicker/flash off is just red.

3D polygons just don't hold a candle to these beautiful sprites and Q sound soundtracks. An era where everything CAPCOM did sounded like Megaman X and it was amazing! Theme of Gambit is soooo good!🥰
