Exactly. And in some places, left turners are always at fault legally, even if they are not actually at fault in the situation. This happened to my wife who was making a left, and the guy in the right turn lane decided to keep going straight while also changing lanes in the intersection. Not legal at all, but because she was making a left, she was automatically at fault. Absolutely stupid, but that's the legal system where we are.

Yep. I was sometimes admittedly guilty of not hearing my blinker still on while cruising around town not looking at my dash.

  • 4 жыл бұрын

@@ScytheNoire When I was getting my license, that was explicitly stated on exams to never trust blinker only. Until you can see that someone is actually going to turn, you should wait as it will be your fault anyways. Obviously there is another thing. Changing mind. I would add it to the list, people sometimes change their mind and suddenly do another thing without giving others time to see this. The best example is when you decided to go straight when you were slowing down and blinking. Turn off the blinker and you have full right to speed up and go straight. Someone else on the other hand might not have the time to react and would already cross your way.

I've seen dozens of examples of ad campaigns reminding drivers to be mindful of pedestrians, but there needs to be reminders for pedestrians on how to keep themselves safe. I lived in Chicago for most of my adult life and the stupid things pedestrians do to put their lives in danger and make traffic worse is shocking.

  • @PsiliPharm2012

As a frequent pedestrian, I would add blocking the crosswalk… happens at every light, there’s one driver that will always pull half way out but that puts the pedestrian out into the intersection or they have to go behind the car which can be just as bad. Probably the same pricks that refuse to use their turn signal because someone *might* cut them off, so they do exactly that.

I started to make the turn and my dad yelled at me to stop. He told me to never assume what the other driver is going to do -- even if they have a blinker on. The most annoying behavior by far is hogging the left lane. People who drive below the speed limit on the left lane with a line of cars behind them. "I am driving fast enough. Why should I move?", "I need to turn left in 40 miles!" or "I drive 2MPH faster than the trucks, which I'd like to pass on our 200 Mile road trip!" are no excuses. In Germany you will get a ticket for driving on the left for no reason. This is not just annoying, it is also dangerous, because people will pass you on the right while being annoyed. You also contribute to traffic jams and impede the free flow of traffic. It is also just common courtesy for others. Done with passing someone? Move over back to the right, no matter how fast you are going.

Before you judge, we do have a 30 ft speed boat we have to back into a narrow driveway with cement walls on each side on a one way, one lane road, and if there is a car in that spot we legit cant put it in. so we put out cones so no one parks there.. its better than trying to avoid hitting someone or going all over the neighborhood to find them. so we put up cones about a hour or two before, or whenever the spot is free

Someone parked right in front of me, like 1 inch max from my front bumper. He was not trying to just get shade as there were much better spots for that. He did leave his window down for me though, so I dumped the garbage from my car into his driver seat. I still laugh about it today.

My biggest pet peeve is someone taking a turn (especially a left-hand turn) at 0.5mph - particularly if it's at a busy intersection and you have one of those green arrows that lasts 1 second. It's like they're completely oblivious to the line of people behind them trying to turn before that arrow turns red again, and they're content to get to their destination like a granny cruising to church on a Sunday morning.

I'm proud to say I'm guilty of very few of these. I'm good at parking but if I somehow mess up, I get back in and fix it. I've only blocked maybe two intersections ever and it was because the traffic was deceptive and I thought it would keep moving to give me room. I usually take no chances and wait until it's definitely clear. I never tailgate unless I see someone else tailgating egregiously and then I do it to them to piss them off and hopefully teach them a little lesson. I don't do it too long though because, of course, I don't want to hit them. I am guilty of distracted driving though with my phone but not nearly as bad as many. More like brief glances down from time to time and then typing quick responses while not looking down at the screen. Still - I'm working on getting better. The right-of-way thing drives me crazy. People are either trying to go first when they shouldn't or don't go when it's their turn. It's truly not hard.

Where I live everyone merges onto the freeway too slowly. I don’t drive fast in the slow lane but I wind up caught behind them all the time. The issue is it’s all thick-dash lanes that continue off the freeway again and people use them as surface streets. So if you want to actually merge you have to get from 40-70 in the blink of an eye.

She swooped over into my lane as we completed the turn. I caught up and passed her to flip her off. Lol this is where I screwed up... I went to cut her off going 70 mph. Jerked the wheel right, started to slide in front of her, countersteered into the median, and rested against the guardrail on the other side at the perfect moment to look up and hear her yelling “that’s what you get!” I drive without emotion now.

“Shame Box” is absolutely the right name for getting caught in the middle of an intersection, and sort of a sub-point about that? DO NOT block parking lot entrances close to an intersection. There’s one near me, busy little mini mart, and invariably somebody blocks people from turning left into it. Which causes traffic to back up into the intersection, and you cal literally watch traffic tie itself into a knot before your very eyes. Be aware of the local terrain, people.
