The currency has also got worse... on the 15 March 1982 South africas rand was better than the USD as it was R0.72 for 1 Dollar. Now it is R15 to the dollar. The farmers are tortured to death and aren’t even allowed to leave, the politicians openly call for murdering them and they have fragmented society so much that no one trusts each other anymore and everyone has to live behind high walls and hire private security. And on top of that, the infrastructure is decaying and the economy is collapsing. So yes, it was more prosperous back then. It was the only country in Africa that was considered first world. But not anymore. Also, they don’t seem to care that the Chinese are buying up the country, that’s fine somehow, but when whites do it, it’s horrible. Only shows how racist this current government is.

Why is this comment section so racist? South Afrika was only as prosperous as it was because the whites were benefiting from the labour of the others. That's it. If you call the Apartheid era prosperous as well as "the good old times" please just remember why cities such as Cape Town were so "nice". The film is meant to convince the international community that apartheid, in fact, isn't so bad (the whole apartheid thing has always been seen sceptical by the US and countries as such).

A note to the many (not all) of the ignorant commenters. Apartheid was not instilled till 1961, eleven years after this film. Britain left SA in 1961. The blacks were not indigenous to South Africa. They were brought in over decades from other African countries. The tribes did not get along and Apartheid was begun. Sadly birth control could’ve easily been implemented with incentives given in exchange for a “snip”. Today you have an human disaster of over population. This film shows a paradise unequaled anywhere in the world. An un-evolved population has taken over today and of course the paradisic SA is long gone. It’s deadly to go there now. All the wars fought in South Africa for centuries must have been between whites and non-existent blacks. according to you. The archaeological evidence of black settlements all across the country, centuries before European presence seem to be another inconvenient fact.

@Joepie De poepie Thats an oversimplification- If the world belonged to everyone South Africa wouldn’t have such an unequal distribution of wealth. It hurts your feelings to be told the land you colonized doesn’t belong to you, but racism is a lot more than having a wounded ego. It effects every aspect of ones life and can determine your livelihood. Too many Africans are suffering because europeans decided they wanted to steal South Africa for themselves. Their presence alone has been at the expense of the natives of Africa. Now THAT'S racism.

@@babazi Yes, the bantu's presence is a twisted tale. so we have to rely on written record. When Vasco da Gama rounded he cape in 1497 the first bantu he encountered was near the Limpopo river, the current northern border of South Africa. The first contact between whites from the Cape of Good Hope and the migrating bantu only took place almost 300 years later, in 1776, north of the Great Fish River in the area the British named Kaffraria. People had free movement wherever they wish, there were no borders, they moved around Africa for years and had no desire for Europe. Its pointless talking to you. @@babazi Vasco de Gama did not invade Africa, he was on his way to India. The invaders were already settled in Sofala from where they, the Arabs, traded the "free moving" bantu as slaves. So I assume coloureds and Indians aren't south african either? And presumably the bantus are then north africans, so the Khoi is the only one worthy of being a South African.
