travelfilmarchive

Travel back in time and around the world with The Travel Film Archive. The Travel Film Archive is a collection of travelogues and educational and industrial films -- many of them in color - that show the world the way it was between 1900 and 1970. Our holdings include archives of the renowned travel filmmakers Burton Holmes, Andre de la Varre, and James A. FitzPatrick, as well as footage shot by many other intinerant cameramen.

Please keep in mind that the narration for some of these films was written over 75 years ago and reflects the colonial attitudes of the time, some of which may seem offensive today. The Travel Film Archive presents these as historical artifacts and does not endorse or condone any point of view conveyed by the films.

Footage from The Travel Film Archive has been transferred from film originals and is available for licensing at: www.travelfilmarchive.com

It's funny how most seem to ignore the fact that Israel/Palestine/"The Holy Land"/Cisjordan was under British rule back then and not a sovereign nationstate of the Palestinian people.

My Grandpa was a railroad man, a car inspector who worked for the Santa Fe, at their (then) hub of Las Vegas, New Mexico. I recall going to the downtown San Diego station with my parents and brothers to pick them up when they came out to visit.

For any white or black watching this film and commenting bullshit on Korean skin colour. First of all, our East Asian skin comes in all shades, from pale white to quite tanned. Secondly, generally speaking, East Asian skin is naturally pale but tan very quickly but also become pale again very quickly depending on sun exposure. So we do not get sun bunt like whites and we do not stay dark like blacks either. We have the most developed and adaptable and versatile skin tone that constantly change depending on sun exposure. So we don’t even get skin cancer like whites. And most people on this film were commoners who spent a lot of time outdoor under the sun. They are a different class of people from the nobility that usually stayed indoor. Lastly, this film was shot in 1917 on an old film and it is black and white and saturation is all over the place depending on the light exposure. I hope everyone learnt something new today.

this video is a complete load of Sh!T . the shift to agriculture was entirely for the profit of the company owners. they don't mention the strike for better pay and working conditions in the 1930's and the subsequent massacre by THE US ARMY under orders of the company owners to squash the strikers. 19 were killed in the town of Ponce.

0:48 Just want to point out ‘religious freedom’ was only part of the reason Roger Williams and his team founded RI. They were critical of how Boston leaders treated natives (heathens according to Boston leadership) and Roger was asked to leave. edit: 6:48 I'm actually watching this video from my house which would be in this frame.

Palestine was desolved in 1948 by the United Nations. It had been part of the ottoman empire and was lost during WW1 to the british. No more Palestine. Gone forever. End of story.

Palestine was British controlled territory. Before that it was controlled by the Ottomans. Jews have always lived on that land. It is time for war to end and for Jew and Arab to live in peace.

OMG!!!! What a hilarious, Ozie & Harriot view of life in 1952. It was about the making of this film that I and my 1st grade classmates began a decade of ducking under our desks to save ourselves from nuclear bombs, the Korean War was killing thousands, the "commie threat" began to rage under McCarthy, racism was an accepted part of life, women had zero career options other than waitress, secretary, teacher, nurse or unmarried "trim" stewardess, and in 3 years President Eisenhower would send our 1st "advisers" to Vietnam.
