Another thing I really love about One piece is just how often characters will just show up out of nowhere because they each have their motivations and it makes the world feel so alive. You never know when you'll be surprised by a character and their actions.

Man, Croc is definitely one of my favourite villains and a huge part of that is his bit right here. Croc's intro here lives rent-free in my head and I occasionally just find myself randomly saying "Hisashiburi da na... Mugiwara". Ivankov is one hell of a character. And being written in 2009 is wild for Japan. Oda is clearly trying to say things that I think we're expressed a lot better here than with, say, the island Sanji was sent to. Our team is a lot more stacked now after trading Buggy/Mr. 3 for Croc, Jinbei, Ivankov and Inazuma. And with good old Blackbeard entering the mix this is gonna be one hell of a stretch of episodes to look forward to. And now that the discussion is done, let me introduce you to the most unhinged crackpot theory in the One Piece fandom. So Ivankov has dirt on Crocodile, and also has the hormone fruit. The theory is that Croc used to be a woman, became a man thanks to Ivankov, and was actually Luffy's mom. Congratulations, you are aware of the completely cursed Crocomom theory now.

I always went with the theory that Luffys mom was the last generation empress of Amazon Lilly before hancock Spoilers We know the 2nd and 3rd generations with Shaki and Gloriosa, but we don’t know the one before Hancock for seemingly no reason. That’s what I’m going with.

Jinbei's fishman karate punch might be the most stretched out scene in this anime.

RIP Daisuke Gori aka Jimbei's original va. Someone might have brought it up already, but from here on he gets replaced with Katsuhisa Hoki who has already voiced a different warlord, namely Moria! They sound very different though so you'd never really notice unless you really listened. Oh and the Iva-Croco dynamic is interesting. There have been a lot of speculation as to what Iva means by knowing Crocodile's secret and his past, but the big theory is that Sir. Crocodile actually used to be a woman. There's only some small things that support this, like how every drawing we have of childhood Crocodile he seems very androgynous, and in the flashbacks of Roger's execution we see only the back of his head wheras with every other character there (Shanks, Buggy, Moria, Mihawk, and Dragon) we see their faces instead. In the live action we see noone who resembles Crocodile, except a woman with a dark hair who takes a few seconds of screentime for some reason. It's all speculation, but I love the theory. It did spawn a meme however that since we don't necessarily know who Luffy's mom is (yeah we know Ace said he named himself after his mom, but they could have different mothers), then maybe Crocodile could be Luffy's mom. It's just a silly joke, but if you hear about Croco-Mom, that's what it means lol

Regarding Blackbeard's motivation to kill luffy initially, it came from his need to become a warlord. His logic being if luffy beats warlords and I beat luffy then the world government will have a reason to pick him for becoming a warlord, but now that he already became a warlord by capturing ace for them that motivation to kill luffy no longer exists he just wanted to become a warlord somehow.

The amount of padding in these episodes are so bad. They're really stretching the scenes with that back and forth stares and Jimbei's attack what is that? 😬. It felt like nothing happened in 4 episodes wth
