One time in band (I play euphonium) the crash cymbal player hit my head a little and my head shook and my mouthpiece fell, luckily it was rehearsal

Mfer got some abs of steel on him to use crash cymbals with a normal t shirt, if you never played crash cymbals in march around or marching won’t know the absolute pain of clamping your stomach because your going ham

You don't want to play the cymbals perfectly aligned (there's a slight possibility they can form a vacuum and you'd have to drill them to get them apart most likely) but you also don't need to play them *that* misaligned. It should still be making one sound, not two from each side colliding.

they exist for a reason? ultimately it depends on the use case, if you’re in a concert you just grab the straps since you’ll likely swap instruments multiple times but in a cymbal line your arms will get tired so you put your hand in first

@@Peachy-cs8wi sorry I don't actually mean to imply anything about gendered drumming or clothing being somehow related to the strap. I agree my analogy isn't funny nor does it make sense, but I'll explain what I was going for. For some people it's like how they joke about wearing a seatbelt or helmet. Like you're wearing a seatbelt, so laaaame, and then you have a good laugh about it, bc of course we're all gonna wear seatbelts, as it simply removes all kinds of risks. But there will be some cymbal player out there which won't be seen making those mistakes and their hands aren't even in the knot, with the performance as if their hands were in the knot AND not, because the other part of this that isn't so much a joke, is that I personally believe, and this is an opinion mind you, that the expressive range of the cymbals are decreased by holding them inside the knot. Sorry for all the paragraphs.
