@@DancingwithGhosts Well they released Kid A Mnesia as a single release so I count it and Yep to me Year Zero is a 10, When I listen to it it's always back to front with no skipping I can't say that about The Downward Spiral. 10 years ago perhaps Downward Spiral would have been in Year Zero's place but now it's my go to Nails album. The subject matter is surreal considering the state of the world.

What set Smashing Pumpkins apart from all their contemporary alt-rock bands, and ultimately resting on a tier unto themselves (in my opinion), is that SP weren’t afraid to be sad And I love all those other 90s alt rock bands too. It’s just that SP is flat out better When it comes to Radiohead, I don’t get them. Karma Police is a pretty good song but overall I don’t get ‘em. They don’t hit me in the heart or give me any form of emotional connection. Yorkes vocals always sounded like a malnourished ghost to me. It’s not really fun or exciting music Anyway, I’m always interested in more Smashing Pumpkins content from you. Cool stuff on your channel regarding them. What up Josh!! Dude I totally agree with Melancholy, they were so close but it kinda fell short. As a Chicagoland native, I actually have a great story about the song "Today". The legend states that it was actually stolen by the Pumpkins from another local band called "Busker Soundcheck" the reason I know this is because I grew up with the band "Karma" from New Lennox Illinois who actually played with Busker and remember them playing the song first. Not sure of the validity but those guys never lied to me in my life lol

Pretty late to this, but I have a theory about what happens to people's creativity after so many years. They "make it" and then they are not living the experience of the average person anymore. Since everyone's struggle is inherently unique, creativity is also unique as it has to take the forms of the constraints placed around it. Billy, and others like him, no longer have the same struggles he had when he was young and cannot relate as much to the average person like he did in those prior albums. Neutral Milk Hotel knew this and stopped producing albums as Jeff stated somewhere that he believed he had reached the peak of his creativity.

i would generally agree with this assessment but then you have mid-career comebacks like Green Day's "American Idiot", I thought they were totally washed up after 2000's "Warning" album.. then BAM.. Green Day becomes just as relevant in the 00's as they had been in the 90's.. there aren't many examples of this happening with bands but every now and then it does
