    ✨ *_SUMMARY_* ✨ 1. Get dressed every day, even if you do not have any plans for the day. 2. Put items you want to buy on a wishlist and wait at least 24 hours before buying them. 3. Buy your favourite pieces in different materials to make your outfits more interesting. 4. Pay attention to your footwear. 5. Pay attention to balance and proportions. 6. Take time to take care of yourself. 7. Don't feel pressured to declutter a piece if you are not entirely sure, you can always do that later. 8. Use accessories! 9. Do not hesitate to repeat outfits you love! 10. Make sure you can pay for the items you buy.

    I’ve finally stopped buying ‘nearlys’ and ‘great except for’ clothes. You know, jeans that nearly fit, dresses that are great except for the colour. I know my preferences now and I stick to them. There are still too many fabulous choices out there, but thanks to you I’m looking better and buying less.

    That whole 'don't let go of things immediately if you don't want to' is SO TRUE. The other day I pulled out this jacket I bought two years ago and never wore and recently it's become my favourite closet item. It genuinely looks so cute! I feel like now I just go through phases of wearing and not wearing things in my closet and it almost feels like they're new items every time, you know?

    I have found mixing clothes that I normally wouldn’t pair together is a great way to get inspired and play with my wardrobe. I normally would not pair my plaid printed work trousers with other printed clothing items, but I’ve found it to be rather fun and chic to mix several prints to create a maximalism Gucci-esque look instead of just a slightly interesting work look.

    Thanks Christina for the advice. I’m a guy & I’ve been watching you for sometime now as it has helped me to be more self aware of my shopping habits. I don’t see many men in the comments section but I believe there is valuable stuff to be taken away even when it comes to learning women’s styling. Lots a guys ignore proportions but women do it really well. For example when I layer, I like to French tuck my shirt for that added layer of dimension which would show where your waist starts.

    @@kimberlyperrotis8962I watch lots of men's channel's too, I just enjoy people talk about fashion, and I may have found them when I was looking for how my blazers should fit and Goodyear welted shoes as I was sick of glued together shoes, but everything is useful, I have made direct impact on how my dad dresses and he asks me for my thoughts, he dresses well in the first place so it's extra nice to have information useful enough. A wish list doesn't help finesse one's style. Take straight blue jeans for example. There are different shades of blue, and there are also different waistlines, different shapes at your hip and butt, different lengths and wides of legs, etc. They are designed to work with not only different body types but also different tops and shoes. You won't get those subtleties just from looking at pictures and watching videos. You'd need to buy at least 10 pairs of seemingly similar blue jeans just to start to be able to "get it", and we are just talking about straight-legged blue jeans. ---- Of course, styling will be much easier if all your tops and shoes are of the same fit, style, and similar color.

  • @edennis8578

    @edennis8578

    Жыл бұрын

    @@amandaamanda5398 I disagree, with pretty much your entire premise. Straight leg blue jeans are available by the ton, so why would you put them on a wish list, unless you're such a difficult fit that a decent pair of jeans is a dream that has gone unfulfilled? On the other hand, I, too, have had a pink blazer on my wish list, but for 24 years, not just two. I need a petite size, so when I find my dream pale pink wool blazer that's good quality and the right shade of pale pink, it doesn't come in my size or it's sold out. That blazer epitomizes for me my ideal look. It's the image that I keep in my head of how I want to present myself to the world.

    Very helpful video. I'm near 70, happily retired since age 62. Before that, I worked from home in the evening hours for the last 16 years of my working life, which I absolutely loved (I did meet up with a few coworkers from time to time but never missed that office). I worked a total of 38 years, survived a divorce, never had kids and didn't want to remarry. At home, I almost always got out of bed around 8 a.m., made my coffee, got out of the PJs, put some makeup on and always, a pair of earrings (the only jewelry I care to wear). I cut my pain-in-the-butt longer hair off and spent most of my daytime hours doing something out in my yard or would be out walking or running errands with and for my mom with Alzheimer's. She's gone now, and I miss her a lot. Routine is a very good thing to cultivate, whether you work or not. Helps greatly to know what colors you look your best in when it comes to makeup or clothing and for me, it's keeping things simple. I've always been on the frugal side anyway and am now content with not actually buying much, though I don't mind looking around. Over the years, I've found nice clothing at thrift stores. I'm currently going through my closet to see what's what and can't wait for the fall-winter season since I prefer the cooler weather...

    Hello Cynthia, you are speaking from my heart🥰. And I am just at the very start of getting retiring at 63. I also love thrift Stores, but there are no more in my areas, so whenever I get to Germany or to our main city here in Croatia I do a biiiig shopping tour at the thrift Stores. I also very often get clothes from my people around me, and as I sew a lot of my textiles, there is also a big stash growing in my house😂. And Accessoires, like fashion jewelry , handbags, and scarfs and shoes (without High Heels, because of Osteoporose 😭) are a big Part of my wardrobe. And I love comfort clothing, inspired by the middle ages and vintage. Just found a sweet dress in a CARINA of the year 1978, tadaaaaaa💝. Wish you the best💐

I also live somehow frugal, all life long, doing a lot of things on my own, and when I like something to buy, I just do IT If I can. We are here on earth to live and enjoy our lifes🥰. Btw, where do you live in this also lovely world? Its getting really cold here, and I go now to prepare my oven and get wood into the House. Enjoy your beloved coldy, but cosy weather ❄️☃️🌬️

    I agree! Getting rid of items should only be done if you really really don't want / like them or they break down. I also have a kinda minimalist wardrobe, but I don't wear my "business chic" every day, since I don't want to wear those items down too fast. I want to keep them longer than just a year or two.

    For wishlist items, since I usually see them on Poshmark, I pick a random day in the future and make a reminder that says “if you still want X and it’s still available, you can buy it.” Often deciding to buy it is the fun part and actually getting it/having it is incidental, and this has really worked for me! I still get the joy of deciding I’m going to buy it later, but many times by the time the date rolls around I’m not that into it anyways.

    Shape is SO important, especially for plus sized people like me. Finding a silhouette I enjoyed when I looked in the mirror really helped me stop buying clothes I hated wearing/couldn't style. Don't follow an arbitrary guide about what an "apple body type" should wear, but DO experiment with shape to find out what kinds of clothing are most flattering in your eyes.

  • @happytofu5

    @happytofu5

    Playing around with the silhouettes helps a lot here! Especially constrasting oversized / flowy items with slim fitting ones, or balancing the waistline with the shoe. I found out its not necessarily the "fault" of an item if it looks weird on me, but more of the combination with the other items.

    The point on footwear is so true. I started to build my outfits up from the shoes I plan to wear according to weather and walking / standing time. First I select my shoe, then I select the outfit that goes best with it. That way I don't have to wear shoes that I don't like that day.

    I have at the age of 55 just found my style. It has evolved amazingly. I have lost a phenomenal amount of weight through illness but it suits my 4ft 10 frame better. I ordered from Abercrombie and Fitch for the first time. I must say I am British but live in Australia. I went shopping with my daughter who is 13 and I have been referred to as her grandmother ( very distressing) . However, I now feel happier when in jeans with a nice top, usually plain with a small jacket on top. I became addicted to Poshmark , although I bought a ton of duds I also bought some fantastic vintage pieces. That night I was wearing ankle booties, 3/4 vegan leather pants a pale bodysuit and one of my vintage find jackets. I thought I looked ok but was amazed when a young saleswoman told me that I was rocking my look. I find taking a compliment difficult but that night with no interaction prior between us I actually believed her. I always strive to look my best whenever I leave the house often to my own and other’s detriment. I used to wear what I termed a “uniform “ when I did the school run and had to get out of the car. Little did I know that all the other Mums used to wonder how I looked so put together at that time in the morning. Really it was vanity. I didn’t want to be seen without my makeup on and looking as if I had somewhere to be apart from back home to clean. The breakdown of my marriage has also had a massive impact/effect upon me. I don’t want to be that person anymore, the one my husband fell out of love with if he even ever loved me at all. I was a shopaholic and obviously that had an impact. I just couldn’t find ME. Not sure if I truly have as I have an addiction to boots, long boot, ankle boots, suede boots,leather boots. You name them any colour and I probably have a pair. I accept that I have issues that I have dealt with by shopping, but nowadays I order things, put them in my cart and the forget them. I almost feel I have bought the items just by putting them in my carts and so far it’s working. I have longggggggggg way to go and a lot of things to store, sell, give away or whatever but I’m trying. If you have read this, I Thankyou sincerely. Lorraine

    I think Lorraine you love boots and that is your signature style. Nothing wrong with that. You just enjoy fashion. One year I spent an entire income shopping for clothes. But I am not that person anymore. I still buy things but not on that scale. Haven't the space. Curating my wardrobe has stopped the urge to add to it unless the new item is special. And will enrich my wardrobe somehow. I reached a point where I was overwhelmed by all my stuff. Now spend time trying to wear everything purchased. I am 69 and love to dress in my happy clothes...😊

    I think another great way is looking for staple wardrobe shoes that have versatility but also match your own needs such as can you wear/like to wear high heels or do you prefer flats or maybe a chunkier heel. Next consider seasonal shoe needs depending on where you live, such as if you need a boot for snow or can you get an awesome pair of shields or leather booties for a cooler season. I’d say in most cases you can’t go wrong with a great white pair of quality trainers/tennis shoes like Stan smiths, addidas, Vejas, or Balenciaga…there are many great even more affordable options as well Then consider a great neutral flat or a true red for a pop of color or even a silver or gold pair to treat as a neutral. For me ankle boots are versatile and I’m in S FL. Sandals like the Hermes or the Steve Madden dupe for them are also a nice must have for our weather. I love that you mentioned you can find your personal style at any age. You Go woman! 🌞

    Number one is comfort and quality. I shop at Zappos online because they have narrow sizes I need. I’ve discovered favorite brands that suit me (walk Soft and Vaneli for example). Once I have the practical shoes I need for basic occasions, I add fun shoes that add style and color, but very few. I’m 73 but can still enjoy shoes even though my body changes limit clothing styles. I pay more for shoes because their quality and style make or break an outfit.

The result is that I am much more content with the items that I do buy. I have thought through how I am going to use it and when I do these things I feel that sense of satisfaction of having something I use. I all so appreciate repeating an outfit that I like. That mistake turned out to be a happy one because it allowed the garment to rest, and I explored other pieces to wear. Whe I finally was able to put my hands on those pieces, I had a new application for the item(s) and styled it with a fresh perspective.

    These are excellent tips! Even though I haven’t found my personal style 100% just yet, I have confidence because of incorporating some of these tips, even though I’m trying several different things right now. Especially helpful, is storing things away. I have three bins in my garage of clothing I’m storing away and I check back in with those things every couple of weeks and I might pull out a piece or two or put another one in that has just been sitting in my closet or doesn’t really go with what I currently have out. In a sense, I have a bit of a revolving closet but at the same time, I’m starting to weed things out but I’ve tried several times and just don’t work for me. I have also declutter things that I later bye back because I didn’t take enough time to contemplate. Decluttering can really become a rather wasteful habit in effort to waste less…

    Great tip to recommend dressing fully- even if working from home, because I find more often than not, I need to still do something that takes me away from the home - often at a short notice, such as dropping off my kids forgotten lunch, or interacting with someone such as a delivery carrier. As Snoop Dogg says, "You don't need to get ready, when you are ready."

    All great points. In addition to the wish list concept, if I find something I want, I’ll research to see what similar options are available. Typically, I end up researching so extensively, and seeing just how many other options there are, I sometimes end up realizing I don’t want to put in the work anymore and the idea goes stale. Kind of like listening to a new song on repeat until I’m sick of it.

    Excellent video. Very insigtful. I am one who has way too many clothes and yet "never have a thing to wear". Every so often, I declutter, and rarely do I remember any particular item or regret getting rid of it. That's a sure sign you have more than you need! When I'm honest with myself, I KNOW what I feel good in, what makes me feel attractive AND comfortable. What else do I need? You always look neat, clean, classy and sophisticated. ♥

    I used to get rid of things too and did end up starting to hold onto them. I have tons of room to store things, so if it ticks all of my boxes (colour, style, fit, etc) but just isn’t “doing it” for me at that particular time, I hold onto it. I have dug things out in the past! (I have been letting go of things that I know just don’t fit me anymore / are uncomfortable to wear).

    Completely agree with your point about shoes. I have had so many great outfits/pieces in my life that I never wore because I just couldn't find the right shoes. I have wide feet and don't like heels so as I try to finally get a good wearable wardrobe finding the right selection of shoes is key, but also so hard!

  • @happytofu5

    @happytofu5

    I can recommend playing around with the silhouettes. Most of my outfits look good with high heels, but I don't like to wear them often. I found out that dressing for my short, curvy body type with cropped tops and high waistlines allows me to wear flats and not look off. I also noticed that wearing a bottom that has the same / similar color as the shoe makes things way easier for me. What I try to say is: sometimes its not about finding the perfect shoe, but making the rest of the outfit fit the shoe.

    That whole wishlist thing is so true! I've been putting items in my wishlist for at least a week before I buy them and if I forget about them or they become out of stock, great, problem solved :)) and when I do remember to go back and the item is still available, I usually say "what was I thinking?!" and take it off of my wishlist. This strategy has really worked for me and saved me some impulse buys that I used to make and completely regret afterwards. Great video ❤

    Good, down to earth advice. Thank you for showing, not just talking. I’d add if you buy something you love with a great cut (eg shirt/pants), and it will get a lot of wear, buy two in same/different colours. Makes it easy to travel too- same Shakes but different look. Also one item that can be worn several ways, like a shirt dress that can be a shirt dress, unbuttoned for jacket/kimono, beach throw or even dressing gown is great for travel.

    This was an excellent video! You've given me some food for thought. I bought two dresses at the beginning of the summer that I've gotten a lot of wear out of already. I received compliments on each of them. I knew that they were being sold in different colors and patterns and I wanted to buy those as well since they fit me perfectly and were so flattering. But I resisted, thinking I don't need them. I just discovered that they were marked down on clearance, still in my size here at the end of the summer. I'm really glad I waited, I got each one for $5! Talk about a good deal and now I know that I will get a lot of use out of them. What's that saying, good things come to those who wait :-)
