I can honestly say that watching David Lee Roth talk about 1950s Japanese pro wrestling is one of the most surreal things I've ever seen.
Dave entertains like nobody else ever has
Love the Steely Dan opening! One of the best bands ever!!
Very Telling about the life and time's of Rikidozan. His Matches with Lou Thesz we're a real international treat in Dozan's JWA promotion.Had the honor to spend time with Karl Gotch.Another Legend in Pro wrestling culture in japan.known as Kamisama.David thank you for this presentation. Knock out!
can you imagine if your history teacher was david lee roth?
I love the way David Lee Roth tells a story!
How am I watching David Lee Roth talk about Rikidozan... the internet is an incredible place.
It is really interesting the show. Because I am Japanese, but He talking from American side about Japan. I think He learning so much about Japan!! great job.
My Old School at the beginning. So cool that Dave's Vegas band played anything and everything like that.
This has just become one of my favorite KZread shows!
diamond dave, the one and only, you cant help but love that guy.
LOVE THE ROTH SHOW, KEEP ROCKIN DAVE!
Story telling at its best
What a wealth of knowledge and memories. They should teach DLR in the school systems.
I used to laugh at my sweet little grandmother when she got so emotional believing this was real . Who would have ever thought I'd be laughing with David Lee. HILARIOUS
David. Thanks much.
I find this show to be humorous, entertaining, and educational...DLR would make a great history teacher. I do miss the old opening music, though.
Fascinating...please do more of these
My 5 yr old son and I love watching these. Thank you!
I love your stories. Thank you Dave!
Dave great stuff brother!! glad to see you keep it coming!!
I just love this this please keep it comin .........
I try to learn something new every day, and I always learn something new from Dave, that's for sure! He's quite the poet too describing Tokyo's blackness after the war. Amazing footage from way back. That was zen, this is tao. lol
Your enthusiasm on the birth of Puroresu is great to hear and see!
This was an awesome video. I know a little about Riki, but Roth's stories went easily beyond my knowledge.
We need more of David
love your stories dave, love your music more!
First time viewer of TheRothShow and this was an enjoyable watch, subscribed!
Cool and unique as usual..

YESSS!!!!!
Dude, your porch area is so nice. Interesting episode, we do want to see some of those hidden gems from the early days, theres little to none in existence on the internet.
I would never listen to anyone else tell this story. Why is Dave sooo entertaining?
Making a short story long. You're funny Dave.
Thanks Dave , I am just getting to see these awwesome videos, wish you were here .Things are great in osaka, wish you could see my set up. got a studio set up.
David I love you
very cool dave.
Dave, RELEASE MY OLD SCHOOL!!!! This kicks ass. You Kick Ass, Steely Dan kick ass. Just release it, Please...
Professor Roth. History 5150, Japan Edition, Riki brought the people together in their time of darkness and tickled the dopamine in their brains by winning , henceforth, motivating the Japanese people to cheer up and regoice. And Riki was from Korea, they were baffled by bullshit, but had a lot of fun watching the show. King Papa San Dr.Dave, you are telling history for all the right reasons. Zippidy-Bop.
I actually dig Roth as a host after seeing this. He can tell a story.
Common Roth! Release some classic concert footage from 78 or 79! That material would be gold. Ed's Tone is perfect in that time period as well as your voice. It's as godly as ever during that period.
My old school from steely dan

'My Old School' -- those lyrics fit Dave well.
Yes he was there for the Wha VH gig last year
Oh Yeah, I'd really love to hear the full version of that Steely Dan tune, that sounded great. And Shes Lookin Good was always one of my favorites from the Diamond Dave album. Great Stuff here. I predict Dave will do some sort of martial arts show soon. Live or on a cable tv channel. Just a hunch I have. Heh, heh, heh. Im going to watch this again another time. I like, I like, I like, I like the way Dave talks. And talks, and talks. Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha. Hope VH tour soon too.
This is new to me I never know dave was a wrestling fan.
Interesting & Entertaining - Dave is more intelligent than he ever gets credit for. I love a smart mind - it's SEXY
Rikidozan beat the shit out of Kimura....so glad you love his story too Dave. You just might be one of us!!!!!!
I hope this show is still going and current. I love when rockstars have their own shows. But every time I find a show a rockstar does I find out it's been canceled... If you read the comments dave I love these videos.
Love these shows. Life from the DLR perspective is so uplifting :-) Plus from the occasional new song included in them DLR doesn't need Van Halen neither - they need him!
i think he has a residence in tokyo, as well of course in pasadena. love him
DLR is probably the coolest muthafucka on planet Earth.
Can we have David doing history of 90s All Japan?
Yes he does
KUMPLEEEETLEEE AWESOME! Rap on brother...rap on. DLR proves once again that it takes way more than rock music to make a true Rock Star. Vision baby, vision.
RIGHT ON!! VH at that period esp. 1979 was the greatest hard rock band ever!!
I have convinced myself that any digital quality "live" video of classic VH won't be released until we are all dead and gone...smh
I love the people who hate this, but some how made it to video #9. I can assure you DLR is still and always will be cool.
He is our modern day Mark Twain
The new cover songs are great to hear Dave doing - Baker Street, Love Train, Living In America, the new Where Is David Lee Roth song, the new One Piece Thermo Molded Country Plastic Chair; all are great in my iPod! It's cool as shit to get "new" stuff this way. Living life is great. Dave keeps the fun spirit going and listening...simply LISTENING to him brightens my days and nights. Dave, you are insightful to the most literal definition. Stay Cool ! Stay Frosty ! I'd love to party with u!
So funny Dave
Damn lots of gold platters, thar Dave
Well, I'm still hot for teacher-thanks David for teaching this interesting information. You lead an interesting life and by the time I get to Phoenix I would like you at the end of the room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
David: chats like this would be great sitting a round a campfire, sipping on coffee spiked with JD.....
THE BOTTOM LINE: Whether or not DLR sings well or not, dresses cool or not, act's like a douche or not, etc., when we ALL get to be his age he will STILL have something that NONE of us will EVER have, he was the originally lead singer of Van Halen and he's rocked more people than any of us ever have or ever will, and when he first was in Van Halen he KICKED MUTHA FUCKIN ASS!!!!
DAVE POST AN OLD VIDEO OF YOU BACK STAGE IN 1978? WHEN A GROUPIE STOLD ALL YOUR CLOTHING LOL I LOVE THAT PART OF THE TOUR LOL
King Roth

The match between the Sharp Brothers Vs Rikidozan and judo legend Kimura was years before his matches with Thesz and has always been the considered the birth of major Japanese wrestling.
Warming up to Steely Dan's ,"My Old School". Cool Dave. Was that a live band? Thanks.
DLR band sounding tight.
By the time I got to Phoenix....
Dave, give us the EMT story
Where is Dave lately ????? I am in japan . from Hawqaii.
Shit Dave! You sound dynamite singing the Steely Dan tune man. Really great.
Dave mentions his Uncle Manny. I was wondering if he was still with us. Manny is the original owner of The Cafe Wha?.
Dave looks so young at the end of this episode.
EVH is GOD
Fuckin' right man! *high five*
Haystacks Calhoun
Dave, bring your sister on to get some of us on a diet. I'm getting much too fat! Also, a tour of the Mojo Dojo is in order soon!
Rikidozan actually died from Peritonitis which was a result of the stabbing; He did not die from the stabbing itself. It's said that he have threw his attacker out of the nightclub and continued to party after the stabbing. He died one week after the incident.
correct me if I got this wrong, but Dave appears to have the bruce lee shirt on
Dave fuckin rules
I couldn't make out what he said after that.
Jeff, ever heard of a contraction? Thought not.
ditto
I hope you aren't reading these comments, Dave. Keep doing it your way.
...would dave put down the bong? Hmmm...
Eddie delayed it, he's gotta heal from his surgery. Dave's not delaying shit, so don't blame Dave
Is there a Eddie show and Wolfgang show and Alex show. If there is my life is complete. Did you know DLR's net worth is around 60,000,000
he comes from intelligence. he's smart. guy
mama bear wrestler here;)
well kind of its not because of lack of the letter L, since you have the L sound in ROKU, ra.re, ro.ら,れ,ろ translitiration is what we call it. computa, kohii (coffee) Robato. every word ends with a vowel except ken & sekken, I know you know im just helping out the fellow Gaijin - 外人. im just curious on how much Japanese dave knows. 日本語毎日勉強する
