Thermal and Noise Testing - BeQuiet Pro vs Noctua PPC vs Coolermaster Mobius Fans

Ғылым және технология

High speed fans are starting to pop up from a few brands recently so we have taken the first of the big hitters the Noctua NF-F12 3000rpm PPC Industrial Fan and put it head to head with the new 3000rpm BeQuiet Silent Loop Pro and the Coolermaster Mobius with both the plain and RGB models. So three sets of high speed fans, which one do you think will come out on top?

This test would've made more sense with the NF-A12x25's instead of the old blade design industrial fans. The A12's have a pleasant noise signature around the 1000 to 1200 rpm range. No motor noise, no clicking, no turbulence. I've used cheap fans in the past, like the Arctics, but the Noctuas are well worth the money if you care for longevity and noise optimization. Other brands are obviously gettin' there though, like Be Quiet with SilentWings4 or Phanteks with their 30mm T30's. Still quite remarkable how most of these fans look like a derivative of the original Nidec Gentle Typhoon.

Thank you for testing these fans out, now I don't have to imagine how my portable spaceship (also called my PC) will sound with these fans installed😆 Was definitely gunning for the noctuas to come out on top, though I am quite surprised by how the 2k rpm range test tuned out

Well the entire selling point of the iPPC series is their dust/waterproof rating. Not their silence. As the other fans are not rated for this I don't really see the point in comparing them, as you said Noctua has far better fans for regular PC usage. Well perhaps it's a valid point in a workshop but then it would also require a test which fan dies the quickest from sawdust etc.

Oh I didn't know that about the iPPC's. A shop PC seems like a great use case as I've seen plenty of folks streaming projects from their shops where ambient noise is already higher. There's a game streamer that has his gaming PC on the other side of the wall his setup is mounted on, in another room! He has cables running through a passthrough. He could just fill that rig with 3000's and it would never break a sweat.

For example, every increase of 10 dB on the decibel scale is equal to a 10-fold increase in sound pressure level (SPL). Near silence is expressed as 0 dB but a sound measured at 10 dB is actually 10 times louder. If a sound is 20 dB, that's 100 times louder than near silence.

the switch on the back may actually be helpful for running them at low rpm with less PWM noise (depending how it's implemented). I have some 140mm 3000rpm noctua's, I had them lying around for a project I kinda abandoned so when some other fans in my PC were giving me issues I just threw them in, but running them below 1000rpm (as I do) results in noticeable PWM switching noise, it's not egregious, but it's noticeable... I hope noctua's new 140mm's come out soon so I can swap out ALL my 140mm's for those.

Bequiet on intel/Amd watercooled mini pc since 2016. All fans DC controlled by the MB. My secret is modding some pure wings or shadow wings by removing whatever material needed from their skeleton frame in order to place them right against the rad surface. Using the rubber spacers provided the fan can be float mounted and totally inaudible. Tried all fans I could get my hands on that could fit inside the mini case, even some Slim 140mm with 120 mounting points. Fans are so quiet I had to insulate the Asus 27 monitor internal power supply, because its faint humming sound was the loudest thing on the office.

Was about to say that the iPPC Noctua fans have a 6-year warranty, but I see that CoolerMaster and Bequiet back theirs up with a 5-year warranty. So, in the end, those are indeed interesting alternatives, although one doesn't know how the fans will sound after 5 years in the same position in the case. They surely will sound louder and probably bit more different than brand new ones.

i use the ppc 2000 rpm to blow air through my DIY aircleaner. I was tired of paying 30eu each time i had to change the filter in the cleaner, so i built my own cleaner with my own filters. The air has to travel through 25mm of tinay active carbon pellets. The noctua PPC pushes the air through like it was a bikepump. It moves at least twice the amount of air through it than the scythe Kaze Flex 1800 rpm i had before. That one even has higher air flow, at least as , long as there isnt an obstacle. I had 2 or 3 fans before that but they all sucked. It is the best pressure optimized fan by a big margin. I think the ones that come close are the ones that copy that blade design. Looking at this test. i can only guess it doesnt fit the noctua, because the resistance is not high enough for The design really to shine. If the resistance isnt there, air flow isnt really that restricted and so all the fans can shine. If the fans had to push through a really thick, fine radiator and maybe an additional dustfilter, i really cant see how the Noctua wouldnt outclass all the other fans.
