There Was a Brooklyn in Charlotte, NC, and the Brooklyn Collective Preserves That Legacy

In the 1960-70s, the historic Black neighborhood of Brooklyn in Charlotte was demolished as part of the city's urban renewal projects.
The Brooklyn Collective holds two of the remaining four buildings left from that neighborhood.
This nonprofit comprises of three buildings total, including the Grace AME Zion Church, Studio 229, and the Mecklenburg Investment Company Building. Here you can find art, performances, music, community forums, non-profit events, and more.

    It’s so sad that most of the buildings were torn down for the highway

    It's sad they purposely torn down those buildings should have kept them around for history.
