The cinematography and the storytelling on your videos is absolutely amazing and just keeps getting better and better. Such high quality content is not something you can find anywhere. ❤
"Kneipe" is used in German in exactly the same sense as "Knajpa" 🙂 I always loved the way Czech takes foreign loan words and adjusts the spelling so that the pronounciation stays the same (jam - džem, weekend - víkend). But my favourite was a shop that I found years ago when I lived in Prague: "Fajnšmekr" - took me at least a triple take to realise that the title came from the German word "Feinschmecker", which is a really old way of refering to a Gourmet 😁
@KnightMirkoYo

I think it's the proper way to loan words :) Writing is there to represent the spoken language, and it could become confusing if it's the other way around

we czechs can barely write in our own language, you expect us to learn any new word spellings ? No-uh sire, we are quite occupied with making our own language as complex as possible, thank you.... ...like right so now every foreign woman have to be named with -ová ending, so Julian Mooreová, Sharon Stoneová, too stupid and needlessly complicated ? Awesome, its official rule now suckers (thats a fact though)

@@Enkabard I love when women have hyphenated last name, the TV commenters will add -ova to both of the last names so we stupid Czechs would for sure know that it's a girl we are talking about.

Well as the Czech lands were part of the holy roman empire and the german countries for a tousand years till 1918/1945, with some 2/5 of the population ethnic Germans - there is a huge number of german words in Czech language, at least 1300, many of them the most basic - talíř=teller, šunka=schincken, kuchyne=kuche, knedlík=knodel, vana=wanne, etc., etc...thats why :))
INTERESTING FORGOTTEN FACT 5:35 Shows a glimpse of kiosk on Promenádní way, one of the main traverse routes of the whole mountains between Jizerka village and Smědava cottage. In this kiosk you WILL NOT find written prices on anything, you pay as much as you think is enough. We have been told this has been like this for last 20+ years and it still keeps the kiosk operational, because most people apparently pay enough to cover running costs. It is really a cool concept and I am sorry Honza and Janek haven´t stopped and covered this in this video. Is there a reason for it, guys?
Well I didn't make it to the mountains on this trip to the Czech Republic, as I am finishing my weekend Prague I would like to thank you guys for all your great videos that help me out on this trip. I do plan on coming back and spending more time here Thanks for everything
Wow! Beautiful. The first time I went to Czech Republic, I was taken to Jiserska hory to try cross-country skiing, we stayed at Presinska Chata, and we stopped at that same cafe in Hrebinek. I fell in love with a country and have been back many times. Great to see 😊
show Czeski Grand Canyon - the view stunned me. a hidden pearl in Czech Republic. Cheers from Poland!
This was a very nostalgic video for me as I lived just up the road from Jablonec , in Liberec, for many years. I spent many an hour walking "in the nature" and "picking up the mushrooms" 😀
The best 15 minutes of the week
Hi from Poland. We do enjoy Jizerské Hory / Góry iIzerskie 🙂. Thank you for an excellent vlog. I remember Prague from 80's, both early and late 90's and from 2000s. Tremendous change.
As a someone from Prague who frequently travels around the country I must say that Jablonec & Liberec are my favourite cities so far! Along with Litoměřice and Olomouc. Jablonec is like a tiny San Francisco with very steep streets. The dam area (Jablonec sea) is amazing and the city centre is really beautiful, full of German history. Also, the Volt brewery located here produces some of the best quality beers I ever had and their steampunk villa is a hidden gem I always love to visit. For public transport enthusiasts there are modernized T3 trams, bus network is provided by Umbrella with old Mercedes coaches from Hamburg and both cities are connected by a direct tram which railway is currently under reconstruction.
What do you serve them: yes. Love it. Also thank you for the recommendation, I'm planning holidays to Czech Republic with my family next year, it's always great to see cool places.
My partner and I visited Jizerskehory and Krkonossky National Park two weeks ago, everything was as beautiful as your videos have shown. You are right, I didn't see much litter anywhere and did my part too. I look forward to seeing more about the region after you move there. Maybe once you are one too you won't feel as awkward interviewing the locals!
Watching from Austria, will not skip a single second of your video 😉!
I had a girlfriend from this region, now I understand why she loved her home so much. Going there is on my to-do-list now.
My 1st visit to Prague .. I arrive in 4 weeks (American in the Philippines) and I'll spend a month walking, exploring and enjoying the history of Prague. *I've watched maybe 15 of your videos, thanks.

Very nice place also called Isergebirge in german, little bit like Sumava or a very secret but one of the most beautiful places in CZ called Kladska, northern of Marianek, Marienbad. You are absolutly right, czech republic is so much more than Prague. One of my favourites is Kutna Hora, Kuttenberg. I like it very much there. P.S. Knajpa is a nice czech Word for the german Kneipe (small pub), its a institution in Germany (like in the UK and Ireland), typicaly at the corner of a house = Eckkneipe.

You have absolutely nothing to apologize for, Kim. That is the best ever spelling of "svíčková" by a native speaker of English. I may even steal it and start using it with my Czech friends! All the best, and Czechia would be delighted to have you come and explore some of our countryside.
Not something “bigger to eat” - the correct way to say this is something “heartier to eat” - I adore your English anyway Janek - you are so likable! You are a great ambassador for the Czech people ;))))))
I have been going to Jizerka 1 every summer for a few years now with large telescopes to look at the stars. It is great there and with the bicycle and the many hiking destinations around you can also have a wonderful holiday...
This area reminds me of the beautiful Šumava/Bohemian Forest area near Vimperk that my mother’s grandparents left to come to the USA, long before the expulsion. Every restaurant in that area has the wonderful smells of my Grandmother’s kitchen!
I'm from Quebec Canada and your forests and mountains (in this video anyway) look very similar to ours!

When I lived in Czechia, I took a trip to the mountain forest in north Bohemia but the forest was completely dead because of acid rain. That was in the 1990's so it's nice to see a healthy forest in this beautiful landscape.

Oh you'll be deligted. I feel large cities a bit oppresive and rushed but there are so many places for a nice stroll in Czechia and they are close to each other which is amazing. When I have a free Sunday I often just pack a small bag, hop into my car and then I think which of 4 mountain-ranges would be the best to visit that day as I have just so many in a roughly 1 hour radius from home. :-)
Every video you do outside of Prague absolutely blow my mind

A really very nice episode that sparked my interest in visiting this area of the Czech Republic.
I go to cz every year to see family and seeing the beautiful small pubs just makes me miss it!! The pubs and the big supermarkets are my favourite part, and of course the tocena zmrzlina!!!
As the locals in Jablonec say: "We have only two types of weather. It is raining or it will be raining" The more correct saying is "It is either raining or it is uphill."
Thank you for showing this beautiful region. I've spend great time there in the past,cross-country skiing and backpacking around PL/CZ border. Greetings from Geneva ;-)

Just consider not coming at a weekend as the main starting points (Bedřichov, Hrabětice) can be overcrowded: you know, full car parks, traffic jams on access roads. Staying in Jizerka is lovely but you should know it has some of the lowest temperatures in this country in winter time…
Oh, we like it when you interview the cute handsome local farmers even if they're the quiet type 😉 Beautiful places, thank you for sharing, I'd love to visit 👍

There is a word in Icelandic pronounced pretty much the same as knajpa, and it means pretty much the same. So, now you've learned a word in Icelandic as well. Oh, the Icelandic spelling is knæpa.
@mortisCZ
Жыл бұрын
It's nice to know that there are important common phrases shared between our languages. And I'm sure that sitting in a cosy knæpa, eating hákarl abd drinking with friends is rather similar to sitting in a cosy knajpa, eating Olomoucké tarůžky and drinking with friends.😊
Love it. Could you do a video on traveling in Czech Republic through car, or renting a car in your country?
Nice nature walk. We are from the mighty hight of Kanchenjunga & Everest :) and not skipping it because we believe every land has something to say well if you really want to keen.

awesome video guys. sharing also places besides Prague. ❤ It looks also like a great place for trail running🤗 also, as they have peat bogs, and peat is used in Scotland to make whisky...is there someone there doing any kind of distillery? 😜
That word already seemed suspicious to me when I heard it in the video. In German, it's "Kneipe"
Love your channel, I have learned so much about the Czech Republic. You should do a segment on the famous Czech German Shepherds of the Pohranicni Straze. A lot has been lost since Jiri Novotny passed, he was the former head breeder of PS dogs. Those lines are diminishing and I wonder if they will ever be resurrected to their former glory. Keep up the good work and be safe.

I would love to go there but we won't have time. Maybe next time. Beautiful!

Skiing only ever ends in tears, like crying when your tear muscles, break legs and arms, and catch horrible colds. A warm fire in a knajpa with friends and good beer always ends with fun, laughter and love. Make good choices, travellers,
