'Cat & Mouse' with Adblockers - A lot of the content creators are already inserting ads as part of their streams, probably to deal with reduced revenue from YT. This new YT software to get around adblockers might just make the whole viewing experience a whacky mess if a YT ad gets inserted in the middle of a creator's ad (an ad inside an ad?). That makes you wonder if YT is allowing you to watch videos or if its primary focus has turned to showing you ads. I was watching a video a few days ago where 1/3 of the 16 minute video was an advertisement; did I click on that video for its content or just got suckered into watching an ad?

I'm paying for YT premium to avoid the adds.

There's a chrome extension to block YT ads. Had it for years and have never seen an ad. Even the free movies that contain ads play straight through. Look it up. I can't remember how i got it.

I’ll cancel YT Premium immediately if they start showing ads in the videos.

ZipWave doesn’t have a Roku app and has too much duplication with Frndly TV which I already subscribe to.

Adds are fine. Just place them in spots your not killing the video.

That would necessitate coordination between Google and the content creators. Probably a waste of time for creators, and expensive for Google.

Tubi is owned by FOX (at least majority-owned) so not surprised by FOX putting an ad on their regular TV stream. 75 million in quite a substantial number of viewers.

A question for Luke. With cord cutting increasing and more people are starting to use an OTA antenna to watch TV, do you think that more OTA TV towers will start to be built so that it will be easier for people to get OTA TV stations?

I doubt it. Antennas have been around since the 50s longer than any of these other options. If they haven't done it in this amount of time don't think they will start now.

I'd also say no. Too expensive, you'd get very little, if any return on investing all that $$$ in the antenna and radio equipment. The better option MIGHT be to install repeaters on top of ridgelines that block signals to a significant number of folks, but even then that might not be profitable unless a station wanted to admit you could get their signal for free with an antenna vs. cable TV.

Question for Luke: When you say KZread, are you talking about KZread TV? I see your YT icon, but not YTTV. Enjoy your channel!

Zipwave needs to up their game as Frndly and Philo have more appealing lineups. Frndly for instance has MeTV, MeTV toons and Hallmark in addition to some of the same channels Zipwave plans to offer.

Looking at the channel lineup for Zipwave TV, I think they're going to have a steep uphill battle competing with Frndly and Philo. Their lineup in my opinion is very targeted and I don't think there's enough of a market for it to catch on. Time will tell.

Even for the targeted market, the price per channel seems high. Usually subscription services start pricing low to build a consumer base before raising prices for profit. I don't think they will be able to build much this way.

Question for LUKE-- It seems like your background is always acting up during your videos. I think it is a Fire TV. Why don't you use an Apple TV where the screensaver will never come on if you just adjust it in the settings. Why not use that?

I'd go for this if I could get my live local broadcast networks and the weather channel. I have youtube tv right now, I really like the DVR, and the fact that it's accessible with voiceover, but the only channels I watch are my local channels, game show network, fox weather, and the weather channel, I know, I'm a geek.

Accuweather is available streaming for free and actually has weather reporting.

Ad was inserted right after your ad block story.

If KZread was to embed ads into videos I don't think that will work because people will just fast forward through them or if they make you watch them then when you're fast forwarding through parts you don't want to watch, then you'll be forced to watch more ads than normal KZread is already on a major downhill like you mentioned that you use Tubi for background noise which I do too. I used to use KZread but the commercials and looking to find the remote to skip ads or they just play forever is ridiculous. KZread needs a major overhaul. KZread needs become more user friendly. But I think after the election KZread will be like Facebook just a shell of itself. Competition is great.

OTA (over the air) ATSC 1.0 Tablo with 4 TV tuners, Free TV guide (no recording fees) is a better deal than the OTA ATSC 3.0 NEXTGEN-TV (DRM Encrypted Dead protocol).

frndly and philo have the history channel, frndly is less expensive so it a no brainer for me to have that service. Zipwave w/o history channel is a no go for me

You can't, they're free ads supported services with no pay option to remove ads. You either watch them as is, or you don't, simple as that.

Pluto is heavily ad supported and the reason I rarely watch, so I end up buying some of the TV series on Disc. I wouldn't mind the ads if they were entertaining. You can only watch ozempic ads so many times.

Another service without sports trying to get double the price of Peacock with mosly free content you can get other places? 🤣

It's unbelievable how many companies keep trying to make money off of me selling me content with commercials. I have an antenna with a Tablo if I wanted to watch ads, I would watch that, at least it's free. I'm not paying one dime to any provider that has ads in their content. They should be paying me to watch their ads. Who do they think they are and why is anyone paying them money?

That ship sailed decades ago when cable tv did the same thing. I never understood why they get ad revenue and then still charge. If we hadn’t tolerated it back then, they wouldn’t expect it now. However it’s possible they can’t make it. we will see more mergers and before long it’s going to look like cable all over again. Greed.

I highly doubt if zipwave tv going to out perform frendly tv just for the simple fact that friendly is cheaper and has more premium channels now as far as the free ad supported channels zipwave offers a individual can have pluto, tubi and plex on their devices... sry but zipwave needs to do something better than cnn max.... cause max itself is $10 lol but if they were to include locals maybe they'll have a fighting chance...

I'd say over 90% of current day content is so woke and PC it's virtually worthless to me. My only monthly subscription is $30 internet service. A NAS and maintaining one's own music/video library of old stuff is a good, worth while option. I haven't been lied to and bullshitted (ads) for years. Censortube just keeps getting worse day by day.

Question for Luke: Why don't KZread channels such as yours SCREAM at your KZread keepers, demanding that they "UNBUNDLE" KZread Music from KZread Premium? I WILL NOT PAY FOR KZread MUSIC. Sign up for an annual plan for $140. $11.67/mo is what it comes out to. But you’re still going to get music. I’m a huge music guy and I subscribe to both Tidal and Spotify. I only listen to YTP music if the other two platforms don’t have what I’m looking for. If you don’t listen to music but like YTP then an annual plan is the way to go. There’s no way that the price will be $3.

Zipwave has zip for chanenls. Not worth it. Looks like right wing religious programing and political politicking. That's part of why I cut the cord. Got tired of left and right wing politics shoved down your throat on every channel. Using brave for streaming things so I can block all those ads and can thumbs down anything I don't like and not see it for a while.

Junk channels. Not worth a single dollar.

I have not used in an add blocker in years. As we have all heard many times, there is no such thing as a free lunch. You have options, embrace the ads or cut the check yourself. Your use of ad blockers threatens everyone's experience. Think of it as taxes, a necessary evil.

Whilst I agree to an extent, I can understand people's desire to not be tracked by malicious cookies delivered by said ads. The system is way more malicious than simply watching an ad on a old tube TV. It's a quandary because I'm all for supporting content creators but not the big brother element.

Of course, as another greedy corporation, their only concern is cashing the ad agency check. So, while I see your point, I'm reminded that everything on my computer is tracking me to some extent.
