There are too Many Games to Play, and Not Enough Time!

Nowadays, there are too many games being pumped out that it's often difficult to decide what to play. You might have heard of a phenomenon called "Decision Paralysis," which affects us from picking what to watch on Netflix to what games to play. Do you ever ask yourself, "what game should I play?" Well, this video seeks to answer that, and also why in a time of unprecedented releases we say: There are too many games, and not enough time!

More often than not your first instincts are going to be what you desire to play most. If that means playing an old school game, modern game, or re-playing a game you already beat...so be it! Don't beat yourself up if you can't decide right away. There is no right or wrong way to play your video games.

Due to how easy it is to self publish on PC, there is definitely a bigger glut of games there, but even now I'm struggling to finish up a game before this weekend so I can start Ghost of Tsushima as it launches. 😅 I think this is a problem that will only get worse, so I just need to learn to deal with the anxiety of not being able to play all the "major releases."

Really interesting video, thanks for putting it together. I've had this problem for a long time.. well it started out with books, then moved on to music and tv series, and now I have it for video games too. So it's nice to know that it's not just me and that more hardcore gamers have the same trouble. My solution? Just play/read/watch through them all in whatever order I bought them. Which can take a long time... This leads on to another issue that I don't feel like I'm playing games that are brand new cos I'm so far behind everyone else, but I guess that is all a psychological marketing trick, to make you think that you need to buy and to play the latest games

I don't play multiplayer games of any kind, I love playing single player story driven games, rpgs and open world games. For me, Excuse #1 still stands since not only have I been working nearly this ENTIRE time through covid. Outside of 1 week vacations, or when I took 2 weeks off to move out, which as I'm sure you can imagine took alot of time since it was my first apartment. I have not had to go into isolation or anything yet. Personally, I've never really used excuse #2. If I just wanna chill, I will pick a chill game. If I want a challenge, I'll pick a game with a challenge. If I want a 60+ JRPG that I'll binge 12 hours at a time, I'll play one. I typically tailor my gaming to my mood and my schedule(no staying up until 3 AM when I gotta start work at 7). I'll admit, I do sometimes feel that way. Recently I got done playing Digimon Story Cybersleuth: Complete Edition(both Cybersleuth and Hacker's Memory). I'll return to it eventually to get more of the achievements. By the time I put the game down, I had trouble being in the mood to play another game immediately and had to spend a day or two watching videos/streams, and I started up 3-4 more games trying to make a game hit a nerve that would hook me into it. Haven't finished all of them yet. My issue is that I get more games that I want to play than I am able to actually able to get to around to playing.

I have this very same...luxury problem?? What I have implemented is using a Smaller hard drive. I radically Decreased the amount of available storage space (16TB down to 500GB), thereby limiting what I am able to download and helping me to intentionally focus my attention and time on the game that is taking up the diminished storage capacity of my SSD. At that turn I am committing to the task of seeing the game through to it's intended completion or making an experientially informed decision regarding my willingness to finish what I have started based solely upon a self-imposed 4, and only 4 criteria. These are the story, the mechanics, the aesthetics, and the potential re-playability. With this esoteric methodology I was able to complete Half-Life: Alyx and feel as if I had just put down an incredibly engaging book (remember books? Man, those were the days!! Huh?). The visceral lasting impressions of the characters and intense survival aspects of Alyx have then become a fond emotional memory imprint as opposed to "just another day in the HMD". And then, well, I move on. Committing to another completion if the four basic criterium are met by the next chosen title. They can't all be winners. If I am not captivated to move forward with committed intention within 2 hours (yes, I really give it a solid go) then I uninstall and take the next journey with the limited space that I have imposed. This is totally working for me and I have far less anxiety about feeling as if I am neglecting a purchased title that frankly doesn't even know I exist. It is our Emotional connection, or rather Perceived emotional connection with these possible experiences that we were intrigued enough to shell out hard earned dollars that we battle within. Like being a child and thinking that one stuffed animal, a clearly and wholly inanimate object with no sentience, could ever FEEL left out if we decide to cuddle with the Bear as opposed to the Frog. What I did was put MOST of the stuffed animals in the closet and decided to only have 2 on the bed. Thereby neither is "left out" of the slumber party, as it were, and I have a pretty decent chance at the element of Completion of a Task; which is in and of itself very satisfying and also provides a sense of Closure that allows me to happily dive in to Boneworks, post-Alyx and know it's gonna either be a beautiful ride or a total bust within two hours. Luckily for me? Boneworks on the Index is a beautiful ride. I wish all of you happy, and Contented, gaming. Be safe and well.

Honestly I can always agree with the problems with getting too many games, which even if you get a lots of games you would have a hard time trying to pick which game. You want to play! which will cause you to waste time to play that game and even of course there would be times when you would end up not playing those games at all Which can be a waste of money if you don't play those games and of course, with a lots of games like those you honestly wouldn't have the time to play all of those games. Which I do know in fact there do exist gamers that do have such limit times due to having a job, while I also know in fact we do have video games that do require so much times To put into them and even also there would be times you would end up being stuck on the same game! aka video games that would have replay value that would be very good ones. Which I know in fact there can exist single player games that would have new game plus mode aka the game mode, where you can replay the game from the beginning with the items You got from your first playthrough while I know there are single player games that would not have that mode, or if you end up playing way too much of a multiplayer game you would like! Which I know in fact I hardly play some video games I bought from the steam summer sales, due to online games I have been playing way too much aka one called tower unite aka the game. I have play in 2020 and Garry's mod that I return to in 2021 to play murder which I end up going in the wrong server that did have so much problems and even a owner to that murder server That pretty much killed his own server since so many people have left from that server, like I know in fact I have play way too much of murder and hardly bother to play those games at all.. Well unless if you get really bored from playing that same online game or if the game get way worse, aka with bad updates that can ruined the game that can cause people to quit the game While I even decide to take breaks from online games due to being bored or due to having problems like toxicity, like I am just playing my games I bought from the steam sales one by one While I would still try to beat those games and try not to waste my time way too much on those games, since I do have other stuff I want to do on my spare time like going outside which I wouldn't want to stay in the house all day since I am one of those people that gets out of the house though like I can still agree with the problems with getting too many games though.

I used steam to browse genres, and they do actually have a very extensive list on genres and tags, which are user generated. So even if some lines get blurred with genre, it’s still a pretty good tool (plus it’s harder to find games on a platform that isn’t steam except for console exclusives). As far as an actual database though, none that I’m aware of.

But i am seeing so many games i want to play, it’s like there’s a unlimited amount of amazing stories and fun games. And i’d not be able to get to finish all my games i wish to finish ever.
