I once did an essay in college about the advantages of driving manual. One that really stood out to me was the development of limb independence. Essentially, you begin to be able to control your limbs independent of one another without the opposite one attempting to mirror it, due to quite often all four limbs having to perform a different action while driving manual. Usually you only see quadrupedal independence developed in drummers, but someone who has driven manual for years will often exhibit nearly the same level of limb independence as a drummer. This also leads to your mind being able to multitask and think more abstract to solve problems.

I am 72 years old. So I have seen the progress of both manual transmissions and automatic transmissions over the years of my life. I have also driven both manual transmission cars and automatic transmission cars. Because I live in a big city with a lot of stop and go traffic I prefer automatic transmissions. In a big city a manual transmission can be a lot of work, constantly pushing the clutch and shifting gears, with an automatic you can let the transmission do the work for you.

Another advantage of a manual transmission. If the battery in the car is dead you can push start it. Which is handy if you don't have jumper cables OR portable jump box.
@JETZcorp
7 ай бұрын
Depends on how dead the battery is and how modern the car is. If the fuel pump doesn't prime or the ECU doesn't start up, the car still won't start. I've had a couple "push starts" fail to work, where a jump got it going right away. But if it's just barely not cranking over, and especially if you have a bit of a hill to roll down, it can work.

In an automatic many people drink their soda and text people staring at their phones while casually driving. In a manual car it requires both hands and undivided attention to drive. When traffic slows you have to downshift or upshift to speed up, if someone gets in front of you or a traffic light starts to turn red you will likely need to shift and then brake. When the light turns green again you have to be ready to engage the clutch in first, or suffer an embarrassing stutter and stall in the middle of an intersection. This makes you plan to shift on-the-fly with dynamically changing traffic all of the time.
@jr-k12

It will interest you to know that there's a level you'll get to while driving a manual that you'd be able to do all these things you mentioned and it'll be just muscle memory. I don't advise texting while driving, but I'm guilty of typing names of locations on Google maps especially when I'm in areas I don't feel safe enough to stop. I also eat/drink while I drive, very important on long trips😁(don't advise it either) One more thing... Brake first before you think of shifting when making a stop. Brake, clutch and then shift to the gear required. You'd get to know why the more you drive a manual
@sadasdsadsadasdasd914

@@jr-k12 That's true but a manual also keeps both hands occupied so you can't be holding a phone or eating, unless you're cruising/at a light
@jr-k12
7 ай бұрын
@@sadasdsadsadasdasd914 like I said, there's a level you'll get to. I do it, so many people do it. You'll just find it hard to believe until you start doing it too. Also both your hands aren't always occupied. You only change gears when you need to. Except on roads that require a lot of turning, you can shift to your highest gear within 30 seconds or less. On really small roads, you can just cruise on maybe 3rd and just work with your throttle and brakes until you slow down below that particular gears speed ratio. We don't actually shift or use the clutch non stop like people believe. The same way you don't always drop down a gear and overtake, lol... You only get power when you need it. Just observe someone who has been daily driving a manual transmission vehicle for years (a lot of years, lol) and observe the way they drive, you'd get it.
@sadasdsadsadasdasd914

Maybe it's because I live in a city with a lit of traffic, I'm shifting all the time. I just can't imagine the dedication to distraction you would need to put your phone up and down every 10 seconds@@jr-k12
@Drxyz-tk6le
7 ай бұрын
@@sadasdsadsadasdasd914umm no. The more you drive, every thing becomes reflex. You don't even think about it. You are on your phone, and you automatically downshift and upshift. Automatically your legs press the clutch. Unless you are driving like a maniac you don't need to change gears every second. You learn to read the traffic. If you feel traffic is going at 60 kph, you shift in 3rd or 4th gear and continue till 80 or fall till 40 kph. You don't need to change gears. You can travel fro. 10kph to 30 kph without straining at 2nd gear. And 3rd gear you can drive till 40 kph and 20 kph. So you have quite a range. In crawling traffic you just let go of the clutch in first gear and just keep a light foot on the brake if required to slow down. You can also control via the clutch. But you will wear out the clutch plate.

It mostly depends on how u drive, no matter how professional u r, if u are a rusher who likes to speed up and accelerate, then u r more likely to lose fuel economy, best way to get the great mileage is keeping the car speed steady with minimal usage of breaks. The best of both worlds is a modern 6-gear automatic (planetary gears + torque converter) with full manual override - i.e. when you put it in 'S', you can control the gears manually with the up-down button. When in 'D' shifts are automatic. My Focus 2016 has this. I use 'D' in town and heavy traffic, and use 'S' on the open road. In this gearbox, manual shifts are prompt and effortless, and keep you in full control.

The driver has greater control in a manual car, especially when driving on sand and through water... The driver can adjust the speed and the RPM for the driving conditions. Also, when doing high speeds and needing to make a turn, the driver can drop down the gears for the turn, and sense the speed to slow down to while braking. Unlike an automatic car, where from high speed to just braking, the driver must guess what speed to brake to to turn the corner. Like a right hand corner, the manual driver can take at 2nd gear and can hear the engine RPM as well as see the speedometer, but in an automatic car, only the speedometer can be used.

Not true, a lot of cars in Europe are automatic. But pretty much everyone knows how to drive a manual.

but Europe will ban gas cars & manual transmissions will die alongside it since EVs can't have a manual
Forgot about the push start: the push start only works in manual cars, if your battery or starter dies, you need push the car, if you are at downhill, much better, when you count speed, you need to put gear in 2, and the cars starts without starter or battery
My father was basically a manual enthusiast, but not for long his age makes him losing it, and so he swapped it with automatic. Now, all of his cars in my hand known for his legacy
Good luck when you have 2-3 hours traffic jam

This is true. Automatic cars are much easier in traffic. I still prefer manual cars for their versatility and avoid the traffic where possible. Send me hope I can live in a more rural area one of these days.

It takes getting used to, but eventually you even like it better in a traffic jam. Not uphill in a traffic jam though, that genuinely sucks.

@user-245er4ud No, I used to have that. Having 2-3 hours traffic in the morning, I had manual car, been there about 1-2 years, but eventually give up and get the automatic one.

@@adityawicaksono875 Eventually... 1-2 years is not enough. I've been driving a manual for like 25 years.
Realistic. Manual cars are good all the way up 2000s after that its a down hill battle. Also there different transmission types for amt 2010,2015,2020. Everyone comments will hate me for it you can rev match going full throttle. Mainly anything over 600hp. Not say you can't just not perfectly. P.S Watch out for the S/T crew.
I had a bmw 118d manual, went onto a bmw x5 auto. Then back onto an Audi a4 black edition manual. As luxurious as the x5 was. The 1series and the Audi are so much better on fuel. Engine size from 3 liter to 2 liter has a significant influence on it. But the X5 did 22mpg and we use it on a 2 mile school run so 4 miles total. You can get more from a bmw manual M140i petrol engine 3 litre. Automatic is so much less fuel efficient.
Finally learned how to drive manual. At least to where I can get to where I need to safely and confidently

@@danc.5509 mostly best of both worlds and also for engine braking .Even the dodge demon comes only in automatic for a reason because in drag races automatics r faster but as I said even though the transmission is automatic the driver can still manually shift using paddle shifters or manually shift on the shift knob using the plus and minus option.I personally use the manual shifting mode only when I’m merging in traffic I gun it from second gear and shift up and once im done merging or passing a vehicle I put it on drive and let the car shift automatically for me

Ya my audi is a multitronic so i can choose my gears if i want that way i control the rpm speed for highway use i put it in drive if i need more power i press the gas car wil automatically shift back in a second to put me at my peak power

The automatic is a computer which can shift faster than humans. This means you’re wrong. Have you ever seen those manual-vs-automatic-drag-race tests?
Apun ko manual drive pasand he😊
dedicated manual driver here 👍 made me into a better and serious driver being more alert to my surroundings and act fast with the utmost precision, unlike auto drivers, those who are easily distracted by their cellphones and less concentrated, equals to poor driving skills.
I never rode a automatic ever in my life. I don't know how people enjoy driving with a automatic car. The feeling of driving car with one hand of wheel and other on the gear is so good.
Poor people will use automatic ,because gear transmission cost more energy

All cars have transmissions..?
I'm driving a manual car since i had my driving license 15 years ago, this is the standard here. I can't wait to switch to automatic and have my left leg and right hand retire from being needed while driving, especially in traffic jams or driving in the city.
all my cars have been manual I hope they never stop making them
Sounds like an American problem...
Automatic cars have matched or beat the efficiency of manual cars in USDM, JDM, KDM, and EURO markets. It seems that where this video originated from is in a lesser developed nation that protects their car manufacturers with either state run businesses, tariffs, or trade blocking. Now, the novelty of manual transmission are fun, I have a motorcycle and have owned manual cars that were fun to drive, but there's a reason F1, SuperGT, IMSA racing series are using DSG, sequential automatic transmissions in the most powerful, efficient, race cars of all time.
I drive a 1988 Saab 900 Turbo SPG. My prized possession. If you know how to drive it right, the transmission treats you beautifully.
been driving manual all my life. got older and got my first auto a few yrs ago. what really sucks in an auto is you can't playfully blip the throttle to listen to your exhaust while slowly cruising without having to speed up.
bro people cant even borrow my car because they dont know how to drive a manual 😂 its too good
Absolutely! I prefer manual over Automatic
I just love what a manual can do, imo it gives me more control on how much power i put to the wheels in terms of acceleration and torque
I love manual transmissions for the engine braking. It actually made me a better driver by teaching me to let the engine slow the car down naturally (in gear) rather than constantly use the brake pedal.
I am from Turkey and people here especially the uncles says automatic car users are '' gay ''
Automatic:🤓 Manual:🗿🗿
Manual cars will always be better than automatic ones.

Only Americans and Canadians say so. Manual transmission helps you to be a better driver. Period.
