I think when most people say "gender is a social construct" they more often mean gender ROLES are a social construct, e.g. women cook and fold laundry, and men are breadwinners. there is no biological or inherent reason a man shouldn't cook or be worse than a woman at cooking or folding clothes. Women can and do make more than their husbands as well. these are things because we said they are things. That doesn't mean these roles aren't real, but rather that they are constructs of our society. We decided that "xyz" is what men do and "abc" is what women do. Money is a social construct for example. It has value because we all decided it does (maybe you could argue otherwise with the gold standard, but I digress). Does this mean that money isn't real? No. It just means that it is only relevant within society. Whether or not these roles are beneficial for us as a whole is a different topic. These gender roles have changed throughout history as well. Logic would assume if these roles were innate, they wouldn't change much if at all. Yet things like clothes, hair, and jobs have all been fluid and different between cultures. Hope this makes sense!

@@Kelly-pp1et 🤣😂 you beat me to it - one of my favourite quotes. One Other: "A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague". ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero (106-43BC)

What you are saying makes sense, but I believe the phrase would make more sense if it was worded this way " It's hard to have a productive discussion with a smart person but it is far more difficult to have a productive discussion with a less intelligent and ideologically possessed person". I don't think the purpose should be to "win" the argument but to listen to both perspectives and try to get at the truth.

I can see that things are not so black and white and minuet changes can happen in the brain that will put you on a "spectrum". I think the question that should be asked is if those rare brain anomalies should require significant complications to societal structures. If you have infinite categories then you have infinite rules? or would it just be an "other" category? There wouldn't be so much controversy if they would just decide on one pronoun. Just as all types of men settle for he and all types of women settle for she.

Me too. I agree, if people are making changes to every little detail in our modern society, how are we supposed to keep up with what's "acceptable"? How are we supposed to accept the way we live changing to accommodate the few who say they're different? Why should we do so? They don't make up most of the world, they're just loud about it. The media is overrun with people like this, but in reality, it's not likely you'll find every single person informed about social constructs. I hope our society can wake up and realize people like that don't have to be outspoken to exist. They don't have to rally to be accepted. They don't have to be rude and in your face to be taken seriously. When you act uncivilized like that, you just take away from your own credibility. I hope we can look ahead and realize they are being unreasonable and don't make an good reflection of everyone like themselves. Do you think every gay person is in your face? Angry? Yelling? Rude? No. Some people just go overboard with their identities.

Hmm, not entirely true. If you are activist for something (like Steven is too), and some other activist is provoking you (as Steven does), you 'HAVE' to react. If Alicia would go sit in front of Steven's house, with a large banner saying 'Jesus = BS' or something, Steven would feel the NEED to go out and react. And don't forget these 'discussions' ARE rigged! Steven prepares himself for the subject and learns the data by heart and the conclusions of research that has been done on a subject. The people that sit with him have not. There's different kinds of 'forced' than twisting someone's arm.

Full respect to them. 2 Steven Crowder - when you chatted with the second girl she mentioned the Male Brain and you kept insisting that she brought it up. She didn't - you brought it up in your previous discussion with her boss, and she was standing there recording it.

If he had posted her discussion as a separate video he might have gotten away with it, but by insisting she brought it up first, when we can clearly see he did, he is just weakening his credibility.

And personally I think that when they give full unedited videos and a chance to hear the full debate and have an actual discussion instead of cutting some parts out to benefit their own points is actually good for their credibility and an amazing opportunity to hear from both sides in a civil discussion 🙂

The fact that 2 dudes felt the need to rush and correct it to "*his" shows how tolerant some of the people in this audience are. No one is asking you to address to the person as she, but she'd prefer it and some people chose to respect that, but somehow that's a huge mistake you bois need to correct , right? I'm against compelled speech, but I'm also against cunts deniying anyone they disagree with basic respect. Would be good if people with no intention to actually have a dialogue would stop pretending they are looking for the truth or for understanding and outright admitted "hey , i don't understand this and I don't care to, so I'ma judge people regardless of reality" , it'd be more honest at least.

You're confusing opinion and respect. I can personally, in my internal being, find a givien person not worthy of my respect or trust or admiration for whatever reason, but since we live in a collaborative society that requires a certain level of social cohesivity, I will always respect people (to a basic degree of courtesy) regardless of my personal opinion of them. And so does everyone else. You don't go around antagonizing and disrespecting every person you disagree with or don't like, because if that where the case we'd live in a Mad Max type of society, which is not the case. Also it's important to keep in mind, that no one needs to earn your respect , just as you don't need to earn anybody's respect either , but you do owe each other basic courtesy in order to have a working society. If they where asking you to use made up pronouns and bullshit of the sort I'd be happy to tell them to fuck off, but in this case, it's a person who identifies as female despite having XY chromosomes, and all it takes in order to respect that person is treat her as "she" rather than "he" , doesn't really take much effort, and if you slip up and call her a he she won't get mad, as she stated in the very video. So going out of your way to insult her is pretty petty and sad.

When people say that it hasn't been this hot in 100 years they imply that it was this hot 100 years ago. The earth moves in cycles. The earth was in an ice age and it heated up causing the ice to melt renewing the cycle. I know climate is not the same as weather and the temperature, but I am saying the earth works in cycle and it is slowly getting hotter and colder as time goes on. If that makes any sense at all. And that comeback from Stephen, just citing the facts, pure gold. That final exchange was like a microcosm of that entire conversation. Alicia's intent was to shame. Stephen's intent was to elucidate.

Projection. They almost always project. It's actually a kinda effective tactic. (I know they're not aware of it tho)

Manikin Magnus heheheh, yeah I should've finished the thought. Its not an effective debate tactic, but it dors gets people frustrated enough to roll their eyes and exit the conversation, at which point they can pretend in their own mind that they won. Basically it's an effective method to ease the feeling of cognitive dissonance. Also its very effective at pissing me off.

Respect is earned and Danielle deserves it. There is a huge difference between earned respect and government mandated respect or face punishment as it is in my communist country Canada.

@Rye Bread I noticed about a month ago that certain words or compilation of words together will instantly remove a comment. You have to leave a space in certain words or misspell it to keep some on. Such as left are "com munists" and need to censor speech. They h a t e freedom.
