the thing with Lana is that she had a very romanticized vision of America, but the best part of being her fan for all these years is seeing how much she matured! You should react to "Looking For America" by her! you can actually see in this song that she's way more mature and aware

I don’t know what some ppl were expecting from her reaction. Lana fans have known since forever that Lana’s music around this time is about TOXIC relationships. Of course a therapist who specializes on helping ppl get out of these toxic cycles is not going to be like “YASS LANA, KEEP DOING THIS”. Just appreciate her honest reaction and the advice she gives. :)

The “I believe in the country america used to be” is about the glamour of the old world, but also the idea of freedom that comes from the 60s and 70s with the hippie culture and Hollywood (recurring themes in lana’s discography - looking for the past to find answers)

America has facets. There a things that could be brought back and things that could stay on the past. We should not just move on if something good is missing, and you can’t reduce America’s past to “only bad things”, this is very simplistic. Not saying that you did! I love your videos. Just saying that everybody should have an open mind about this kind of provocative statements, and Lana has a lot of them, and that’s why I love her, she doesn’t fit in a determined box

Lanas whole aesthetic in her born to die era was very old hollywood glamour and that's what she misses and longs for, she wasn't that educated back then and because of that she maybe wasn't very aware about the bad things in that time period, she just focuses on the aspects of america that she feels are good. she said she feels like she was born in the wrong era, she basically has anemoia for the 50's, which is a nostalgia for a time you've never known, she pretty much has that sense of wistful nostalgia for an idealised version of america in her head.

To me, the sentence about how the country used to be is more in reference to her whole Americana aesthetic. She frequently talks about this in her songs, longing for the 50s-70s and kinda taking on personas from that time period. In Brooklyn Baby, she mentions the “freedom land of the 70s”, and as Ride is also about freedom, I definitely think there’s a connection there rather than it being a more political take I suppose! Also, she is VERY much against using her Americana vibe nowadays as she thinks it has more negative implications compared to a decade or two ago when she first started using it. Thank you for the reaction as always

  • @bluewescott4631

yeah, and i think her americana has always been based in something thats more of a myth or exageration than what ever actually existed, and her saying she believes in what the country used to be is almost like her just saying she believes in the american dream and the american myth or whatever, not necessarily anything rooted in facts/history

i think she's talking about the american dream when she says "the country america used to be", basically an america that doesn't exist, but people still had it in their hearts and their imaginatinos. in an interview about her album Norman Fucking Rockwell! she said she was thinking about what the american dream used to be and what it is now (basically, dead) while thinking about Norman Rockwell's paintings, and thinking what he would have to say about that... and that's why she named it NFR.

i really think when lana says she was born to be the other woman, is mo like in the sense she feels she is not worthy to be main one, Its like she feels she was some kind of underclass of woman and this kind of relationship is whats left for her, because when she sings the part "dont leave me now...", we feel that she wants them to stay...

Thank you for reacting to this. This song is my anthem right now. I'm in my 20s and moving out of my parents house. I won't go into the whole story, but it's very toxic for me at their place. They have very strict gender roles, I wasn't even allowed to move out until I got married (I am not married) I wasn't allowed to paint my nails, I was home schooled and not allowed to go to college. I don't know what is real or fake anymore cause of the things my parents have told me. I too am so very tired of feeling f-ing crazy. But all I could do all these years, and even now as pack up the rest of my things today, is just ride.

Thank you for taking the time to put this all together ❤ . You don't have to apologise to anyone regarding how you react to the songs or videos... that's what the whole reactions are about... if people can't cope with that then they shouldn't bother watching... not everyone will have the same opinion about songs. I appreciate all the videos you do as I know it must take alot of time out of your day. 🥰

you have no need to apologize for anything. Like you said art is up to self interpretation. It’s not always meant to make you happy but sometime find the silver lining and or show you something you couldn’t before see. It can be jarring but knowledge is in the same fact. keep being you, you’re amazing and your content is eye opening

I think this is extremely accurate and this reflects a lot on our lives, I believe it is part of the maturing process, because on the internet, for example, we trust our secrets and open up better with unknown people than with "our own people".

the thing about lana’s artwork is that it cant be taken away from the context of the album, in this case, the ep “paradise”. paradise and its movie tropico are about the romanticizing of the american dream and the gradual loss of innocence because of it, leading to utter darkness, and then redemption. the whole concept is very important for the understanding of that era’s artwork

Listen, we ask for your genuine reactions, so no one need be pissed when you give us your GENUINE reaction…WE asked for it! So, you just do you, Mere! I love her Tennessee Williams quote on believing in the kindness of strangers. That has always been one of my favorites. And in the song and this video Lana did what Lana does: She provokes…she’s raw, she’s risky, she goes against the grain, and she waits to gauge our response. That’s not taking anything away from Lana the artist. She is and will always be brilliant in my opinion. But, at some point we need to step back and honor the fact that she is first and foremost, a performer. I think if we’re sticking with Lana…maybe do “This is What Makes Us Girls,” “Carmen” (which also references the kindness of strangers), “Gods & Monsters.” Oh Mere, you will TRIP over that one! You know…One or ALL of those would work for us. 😂

Thank you thank you thank you! I have been following your Lana reactions since the beginning and you doing the third video on Ride just made me subscribe to your channel. I am a Lana stan but also deep into the astrology symbolism (not predictions) in general - Lana is a Cancer and the USA is a Cancer and Ride video is the most perfect pop culture/astrology representation of the American path and all its good and bad characteristics. Truely artistic work! ❤

Mere, please do not change. These people are so closed-minded just because they love Lana. I fucking love Lana but it is important for us to grow and see how this music and these lyrics may or may not affect people in different ways. Just keep reacting the way you do. Authenticity is the weapon for the war, pleasing a group of closed-minded people will just win a battle! Thank you for your reactions!!

Your insight is always so great! I always look forward to your Lana reactions. I personally wish you'd react to Off to the Races, just because it's a different style than you've probably heard from her so far. It's not exactly one of her more ruminative songs but her vocals are so unique, and I think it has a powerful, chaotic energy and strong lyrics.

I think that when Lana says she was born to be the other woman, she doesn't necessarily mean being the mistress, but rather about being the momentary fun, never the final decision, never the woman taken seriously, the wife. I think it's about objectification: a beautiful body, a fascinating personality, but never enough

I love lana del rey and i feel you like her too even though you can have differents points of view from things she did or does. I loved your reaction and i understood what you defend and i didn't notice before. I've never felt bad for something that you said but there's a lot of people and opinions. That's respetable, but not they giving you hate. Word doest deserve you, i'm thankfull for your existence. You make me believe in good people. Love from Spain Mere!

I’d love to see your reactions to some songs from her Chemtrails album like “Yosemite”, “Wild at Heart”, and “Dance Till We Die.” From her Lust for Life album, “When the World was at War…”, “Change” and “Get Free” are good options. They deal with her reflections on life and the state of the world, a departure from her usual love songs. Love your thought-provoking reactions! I’ve been listening to Lana for years and I’ve started interpreting her songs differently because of your analyses. ❤️
