The moments in their relationship had me crying so much of the time. I love them so much, and I love how David was a perfect representation of someone who's been emotionally traumatized in relationships, but that doesn't mean that he's toxic with a healthy partner. He's healing and always trying to heal, and that was so profoundly beautiful to watch. You need to watch this show. It's wonderful.

If you have the time, I HIGHLY recommend watching Schitt’s Creek. I know you’ve seen David and Patrick’s relationship already, but the whole show is like that but about all types of relationships. The growth of family love, or friendship, of love and loss. It’s beautifully human and real and wholesome. Definitely worth it for the way it makes you feel.

You know, I used to think David and Patrick’s relationship was so unrealistic. It was so…happy and genuine, despite not being perfect. I could never figure out why they worked. Then I realized as a queer person, I’m kind of conditioned to find some sort of tragedy and sadness for queer relationships. Shows like Heartstopper, POSE, and Schitt’s Creek have relatively idealistic romances that feel so beautiful that it’s hard not to be a little discouraged by them. Then again, maybe I’m just cynical. Still, I’m so happy that this romance existed on television. It meant so much then and means even more now. Happy Pride!!🌈🌈

Believe me, this is actually not as much a gay thing as you may think, although the effect is probably indeed stronger for you due to greater likelihood of traumatic experiences (which I hope we can greatly decrease in future). But apparently many straight couples will find such relationship absolutely idealised and "Disney" and not believe it's an actual thing that actually exists in reality. That it's not as impossible to achieve as often assumed. The feedback gap between reality and "media's interpretation of reality" are probably further apart than ever!! So, you're definitely not alone with this impression and are part of a large group, which includes...... a probably very huge portion of straight. And ace people, too. Widely spread mental health awareness is still relatively new. And there's massive re-traumatisation going on. Via understanding how our perceptions of "normal relationships" being completely off the mark and not at all what we should accept as our "all is well". I'm straight and can barely think of high quality relationship representation in media, too. That's why I'd guess tjis specify effect is more of a "bad representation of reality by media"-thing rather than exclusively a "bad gay relationship representation"-thing, though the second definitely still happens and is a valid issue in and off itself!!!

…it sounds unrealistic but some of us are lucky to find it. Just like David & Patrick I grew up in a very affluent area with folks who were forward thinking yet very traditional and he grew up very blue collar, divorced but very accepting folks. I remember my husband and I watched this for the first time (gay marriage), my husband was so frustrated with how accepting everyone was, b/c for almost every other gay couple we know it was very traumatic, in some cases violent, and ugly. And we are 90's kids, so we aren't even that old yet. I appreciate that it did end up being accepting, b/c that's the dream, you know. But I was low key worried that some people might think coming out is candy and rainbows for LGBT+ peoples.

@@Atlas-pn6jv I'm so sorry that people are still so ignorant and cruel. Dan Levy deliberately made the show that way because he wanted to show what a world would look like without homophobia. @@Atlas-pn6jvThere are some interviews where Dan Levy talks about why he wrote it that way. In part I think he wanted a story that isn't so painful or depressing (and didn't want to spend years of his life immersing himself in depressing stuff, either). Where the story is about their actual relationship and not about homophobia. The challenges in their relationship are all internal, rather than outside forces. Which also makes it very relatable whether you're gay or not. @@gemmahunt2968I don't think it's meant to be a utopia or anything extreme or impossible. I actually think it shows something achievable. Just a place and time where that particular prejudice isn't common. And they don't leave it out entirely. Patrick takes a while to tell his parents, worries how they will react, and when they find out there are a few moments where we're left to wonder if they do have a problem with it. In the end they don't but it's acknowledged as a prejudice that exists.

It is kind of a bummer that a lot of the context for these moments is lost in this form. Like the proposal: the day had gone all bad for them and David ended up having to half carry Patrick up the hill. It is such a sweet role reversal from the usual of Patrick taking care of David.

Thank you for covering a queer relationship just like any other. Schitt’s Creek is beautifully written. You really should watch the show in its entirety. The whole thing revolves around repairing and building healthy relationships and personal growth. Perfect show for a therapist to binge :)
I recently binged an older and less healthy sitcom after bingeing this show, and it felt so hollow after the carefully developed chemistry and excellent acting of this one, and especially these two. Think I’ll have to go watch this show again to cleanse my palate 😅.
This is probably one of the most perfect shows I've ever seen. I first started watching it during the pandemic, and it was such a great "comfort blanket" of a show. It was fast paced, had great character development, no characters were wasted on the show. Moira and Johnny's relationship is pure as well (David's parents) and one of the healthiest straight relationships I've seen despite being extremely eccentric. Funny how that keeps happening (think Rick and Evie, Morticia and Gomez). Another couple I'd love to see your comments on is Nomanita from Sense8. Nomi and Amanita. I LOVE THIS COUPLE. One of the all time greats, recency bias notwithstanding. I love that Patrick knew he was attracted to David and allowed himself to be and took a chance. And I love that David let himself trust Patrick and his slow but steady journey to being out. And how they just fit each other so well. They have fun together, they understand each other's quirks, and they support each other so well.
This relationship was so beautiful to watch unfold on Schitt’s Creek, and the show itself was just amazing in so many different ways. Seeing the way the entire family grew and became the best versions of themselves through their so-called misfortune was amazing to watch, not to mention hilarious. You should definitely check it out. It’s one of my all time favourite shows.
Omg I cried like a baby during their wedding episode. Love them so much. Makes me want to watch it all over again. ❤️
I hope you react to more Schitts Creek!! It's such a great show
Oh David and Patrick are a total goldmine, you really should watch the whole series, or at least react to some other big moments from their relationship. Episodes like Dead Guy in Room 4, Grad Night, The Barbecue (then The Jazzaguy as the story continues), Housewarming, Meet the Parents (this would be amazing to react to for Pride month, one of the best coming out episodes of any show ever!), The Incident (also would be a brilliant ep for a therapist to unpack!)… so many good ones!! And Sebastian Raine is a bit more of an angsty episode, I’m sure there are others pre-Patrick that go into David’s unhealthy relationship history too but I can’t remember them so well as I’m mostly in it for the David/Patrick moments ❤️❤️❤️ Dan Levy has spoken a lot about how he wanted SC to have a really positive, normal portrayal of a gay relationship instead of the homophobia, bullying, gay bashing negativity that we see so often and it was such a surprise to me at first, but I hope this becomes the norm now.
This show is one of my comfort shows and definitely has taken place in my heart but especially because of David and Patrick. I only recently came out two years ago and it’s not been the easiest and David’s vulnerability with Patrick mirrored a lot of what I yearn for and relate to in my experiences. It’s absolutely beautiful seeing this representation stand amongst the “cesspool” lol
Patrick and David are who I aim to be and have always tried to be in my relationships ❤️ they communicate so well and are always so honest… often times on tv, you don’t see that portrayed and I worried that maybe I shouldn’t be so open. Now that I’m older; I know I absolutely should, it just had to be with the right person.
I looove Schitt's Creek so much, especially David and Patrick together! I've watched it all the way through at least 6 times already. It never gets old. You need to watch the whole series!
I can never watch them & NOT cry 😭😭😭
This is the way a gay couple should be portrayed in a show. So many shows just seem to throw in a LGBT character, just to have one. Their identity adds little or nothing to the story, and that annoys the piss out of me for some reason. I don't think it's progressive. I don't think it's a positive way to include a gay couple. It's just like, "here's a non-hetero couple, we're so woke." And every scene they are in, they do something that is like, "don't forget. I'm LGBTQ." It feels exploitative to me, and the scenes they are in with their partners can feel almost skeevy. I am not gay myself, so am I way off the mark with this opinion? This, on the contrary, was incredibly sweet, and there wasn't a single moment, I wasn't rooting for these guys.

As a gay man myself, I think you're spot on. I often feel that way. The fact that David is pan and Patrick is gay is, of course, a significant part of their personhood, but it's not everything. They are just two people, two very different people, who meet and fall themselves falling in love with each other. They have lives outside their attractions, families, jobs, interests... and, also, each other. And to see this much growth from both of them in different ways is... beyond a breath of fresh air. It's an incredible gift.

(Note that when I write “gays” here, it’s shorthand for all LGBT+.) You’re not wrong. The thing you didn’t mention is this: the really big change in the last few years are the depictions of _healthy, normal_ gays and gay relationships. For decades, gays on screen almost exclusively fell into one of two tropes: camp, often shallow, comic relief, or “kill the gays”. That is to say, some kind of tragic or sad outcome. Even the most beloved gay movies, like The Birdcage, rely on those. Schitt’s Creek is one of the first truly healthy adult gay relationships ever shown. And Heartstopper is one of the first truly normal young gay teen “puppy love” relationships. (Heartstopper’s drama is absolutely realistic without being… dramatic.) Together, they’re what we grown-up gays realize we needed when we were kids: _relatable_ gay characters and gay relationships. Most of us aren’t swishy queens or butch lesbians (especially not when just beginning to figure ourselves out!), and the tragic stories are ones we didn’t _want_ to identify with. (It weighs on you when you feel like you’re not like the “fun” gays, and then look at all the hardship, danger, and suffering you’re liable to experience.) So that’s why these shows are a) so deeply heartwarming and healing for us gays of today, and b) so _incredibly_ important for the gays of tomorrow.
Patrick and David are pure relationship goals, and they were such a delight to watch. Just warm fuzzies, and watching them navigate the rough patches, each other's pasts, and learning about each other was easily one of the most wonderful things I've ever seen on a show of any kind, much less a sitcom. Normally, I don't much like sitcoms because so many of them come from a place of toxicity and cruelty, but this one was so different, and so funny - easily the best sitcom ever made, bar none. I watched it because I've always really, really liked Eugene Levy (who has aged like the very finest wine - in all of the ways in which he's actually aged at all!), because he's always such a joy to watch, and I was all the more delighted by how excellent the whole show turned out to be. It was more than just one of the funniest shows I've watched - it was wonderfully uplifting, too. And that is a rare, and precious thing.
Aren’t they such an amazing relationship? I just love how funny and real and sweet they are.

Epic!!! I’ve found my new favorite channel. Now time to binge.
Thank you thank you thank you!! I have been hoping you would address the lovely, simple, honest relationship of Patrick and David. This relationship met a lot of unknown needs for me and it has been such a joy knowing that others feel the same. ♥️🧡💛💚💙💜
2 minutes into the video and I'm already almost crying at how cute that is; have added this show to my watchlist.
For more examples of healthy relationships in series: Elisabeth and Henry from Madam Secretary and Elisbeth and Peter from White Collar. I would love it, if you'd react on those. I love both series because their main characters have strong connections and they overcome their differences by actively listening and trying to understand each others point of view, combined with humor.

Elisabeth and Peter are one of my favourite tv couples. They have such a great loving relationship, with trust, and care for each other.
David and Patrick are a wonderful couple! This is my comfort show. I’m bipolar with anxiety and when things get tough this comes on. I believe I’ve watched it start to finish 15+ times. Happy show
Thank you for this awesome reaction and beautiful words to this wonderful video of David and patrick
in the realm of happy healthy relationships.... HEARTSTOPPER
I absolutely LOVE David and Patrick's relationship. My other favorite TV couple is Leslie and Ben from Parks and Rec. They're just so joyful to watch and see grow together!
I'm not crying, you are 😭❤️
You should watch the show. It's so good! Also, I'm now crying my eyes out and might have to watch the show again. 😂
New subscriber here- I love this show so much! The serenading scenes are some of the best scenes I have ever seen on tv!
I'd love to see you react to Alexis and Ted as well. Their relationship starts and ends so differently and their last scene together was so real to me. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
You are such a warm heart! Please watch all of Schitts Creek. The Ted and Alexis relationship is well written too! The rest is just the famous banter! The whole show is worth a watch!
Oh now I want to binge Schitt's Creek again! Love love love that show so much! David and Patrick are just the sweetest little couple ever! Highly recommend that show, you'll love it! It could be interesting to have your input on the other couples of the show!
Wow, I have watched several of your videos & I definitely fully enjoyed them, but by far this was my absolute favorite! I feel it has something to do with what you mentioned, about this being one of the few actual healthy relationships you’ve been asked to react to. I feel you have a beautiful way with words, and your outlook on humanity, relationships and ultimately just life is comforting. Thank you!☺️
