    Thank you for this simple explanation. However, can you have more than one related theory as a theoretical framework? Or does this make it a conceptual framework if more than one is utilised?

  • @LynettePretoriusMonash

    @LynettePretoriusMonash

    Жыл бұрын

    If you are combining two theories together, then it can still be a theoretical framework. However, if you are combining just some concepts from each of the theories together, you would have a conceptual framework.

    Is it okay to use two different frameworks for addressing my research questions. For example Technology adoption Framework and HCI theory in combination. If so is it a conceptual framework as i am combining two different theoretical framework for my research in which I aim to establish new concept. I am stuck. Kindly help.

    Hi. Yes, it is possible to combine two theories as a framework. If you are using both theories the way they are, it is still a theoretical framework. If you are taking some elements from one theory and some from another, you are creating a conceptual framework.

    Since they serve the same purpose (to shape the vision of the study), you can't have both. Either you are using a pre-established theory, or you are developing a theory using concepts from several other theories. The only time you would have more than one framework is if you had a project with two parts that were unrelated to each other.

    At 1:46, how come we can't use both a theoretical and conceptual framework in a study?

  • @LynettePretoriusMonash

    They are different in that one is an established theory while the other one is the combination of multiple concepts into a theory for a particular study. Since they serve the same purpose though (to shape the vision of the study), you can't have both. You have to choose which one you are going to use so that you can have a clear idea of what you are looking for in your data.

    @@nadiajanelopez6117 If the idea you are using comes from someone else's study, then it is your theoretical framework. It may not have been called a theory in that study, but it is the framework in your study. If you are using several ideas from several different studies and combining them together in your study, it is a conceptual framework. Yes, a framework is needed as it improves the study. An exception to this though is to use grounded theory where your project's aim is to develop a theory. Otherwise, you should include a framework in your study.
