Yes. Spot on !!!
Brilliantly done. The “fades” are fantastic. What a shame we have lost such fantastic buildings only to be replaced with drab-looking ones. Another fabulous video Darren, thank you.

The architecture is superior back in the past than it is today. So much lost. I would have loved to have gone on that wheel! I bet you would have too!! Stunning video Darren as always.
Love how how he puts these scenes together as well as the spooky music 👍

Outstanding work! It makes me sad watching these knowing what my council has done to this town. Building after building are coming down weekly here to put up more empty buildings that they can't fill and/or car parks.

Whilst I understand what you say, towns, all towns, but especially tourist led ones, have to evolve or they die. Has Blackpool Council always got it right? Absolutely not, but for example, did you know that had Blackpool Council not bought the Tower and Winter Gardens/Opera House when they did and committed to conserving and restoring them, which they have most certainly done and continue to do so, at least seventy percent of the Winter Gardens was earmarked for demolition to make way for a shiny nee conference centre. One has now successfully been built without touching an inch of this stunning building and is bringing valuable conference trade back, so whilst I won't say the council is perfect, compared to what could have gone by now without them, I for one say they are doing a fair to good job. Also Blackpool has the ONLY UK tramway where the old trams can run along with the new. That was a demand of the upgrade being part funded by the council. Another excellent decision I'd suggest So whilst far from saying they got it all spot on, where and when it REALLY matters, I'd suggest that overall, they do better than most.

@@dancedecker so you'll know about how rundown they have let Central drive become. You'll know about the benches in the middle of a main road of westcliffe drive in Layton. You'll know about how rundown Waterloo road and lython road is. They have done more bad than good in my opinion.
@dancedecker
2 жыл бұрын
@@dank4815 Yes, I know all of those. Central Drive has been as it is for decades. At least forty years if not more. But now at last, the new £330 million Blackpool Central project that is underway right now, will hopefully go someway to solving that. So every stripe of political colour has failed that area, until now. Waterloo and Lytham Road similarly and as for the benches in Layton, I've seen people picnicking on them, so that's a new angle on enjoying Layton I'd say. And yes, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion. You are also entitled to be WRONG!! Lol.
One of the best "Then and Now," top notch. At times I think if I could go back in time, would it be better? There was good and bad back then just as now. Now if we could take the good from the past and mix it with the good of today, now that would be a place to be. The 3:53 image is amazing. Darren, another great watch.
Great video a lot of time spent putting this together. The haunting music suited this perfectly

Cracking video as ever Darren. My mum's side of the family are from Blackpool and I've always loved the place when I go up. We're due up in October and as I'd recently found a business card in my late mum's possessions for the The Blue Parrot Restaurant in Topping Street, were going to see what's occupying the premises now, about 90 years later - ! 😁

👍👍👍👍👍 five star production from the master Darren. The one memorable image for me was off the packed out beach.....those were the golden age. A full week in a boarding house, no day trips back then. The Lancashire mill towns decamping there on their 'Wakes Week' in turn. Anyone else remember the Wakes Weeks tradition? The dragon landladies of the boarding houses. After breakfast everyone had to leave and couldn't return until 6pm ish. Usually just a large jug of hot water per room per family in the morning. Oh dammed so much social history!!! Anyway cheers DougT in Mancs
Great video Darren..Just one picture is incorrect the Palantine Building is the block before the old Woolworth building.

I have had a good few nights out in Blackpool, good town, good people .By the way, I've ordered my B.R. t-shirt, all of you guys should do the same man. Support this channel as much as possible. Absolutely love it. Fantastic cinimatography (did I spell that right lol). Its a bloomin shame that the proper winter gardens are lost forever. Now you have to do this with the North Pier. I know they ahave kept a little of it original but they have modernised so much of it. x

Most like to visit blackpool it's on the billboard but if the rich investors of its past didnt travel outwards from it they wouldn't have discovered the ferris wheel, winter garden coaster or the tower innovations from world wide where applied to that golden mile.
Amazing how the building has developed . Not sure if it was always for the best. Saying that would so much had survived had it not changed .

Brilliant work with this entire series. I've been in so many of the rooms, but never looked into how the Winter Gardens came to be what it is now. I do think that covering the stunning exterior of the Horseshoe & Pavilion with the Olympia 1:40 was a terrible decision. It looks dreadful. Such a shame!

Darren, at 4:02 the view of the side of the building reminds me of Pudsey Swimming baths. Is this a common style for the era or is there a link?? (Apols, I often have dejavue moments 🤣)

So sad that businessmen used to have ambition for places outside of London. At the moment I feel like there is this irreversible Chav culture that infects nearly all areas of the UK.

From the video description - "Have you ever wondered what London's famous landmarks looked like over 100 years ago? " Guess Blackpool moved at some point in the past for cheaper real estate prices 🤣🤣🤣🤣

For me the entire 'Olympia Fairground' section should be demolished. It's an ugly building inside and out. Better as gardens....
